Unrelated to my other comment, but thanks for adding proper subtitles to this. I struggle with processing words sometimes (partially because English is my second language, partially because I think I have a condition like ADHD or autism, although I’m not diagnosed), so having subtitles there to help really makes a difference.

This is SO true and as an ex-marketer drives me bananas (LinkedIn, I’m looking entirely at you 👀). What annoys me the most is the people who call *themselves* experts, or worse yet, “innovators”. Literally what others should call you, not what you should title yourself! 😩🙄 Yuck

😂are we thinking about the same person!? “Innovator” but I couldn’t agree more!

7:04 I doubt “gatekeeping” would be the right term for what you’re describing here. The action of gatekeeping, to me at least, has always felt… useless? As in, the definition of gatekeeping is (to my knowledge) that the action is purposefully cruel and not for a good reason.
Instead, I feel like a better term would emphasize the reason behind it. I’m not a native English speaker, and not a linguist, so I don’t know what words would fit that. Maybe there isn’t one right now, and we need to make a new one. If that’s the case, I’ll leave it to people who know a little bit more about what they’re doing and about the English language.

People use gatekeeping a lot online as a negative thing and it certainly can be.. but the dictionary definition is “activity of controlling, and usually limiting, general access to something” and that can be for reasons both positive or negative. Im not using it in the internet slang sense here, but the true ema ing of it.

I’m an expert on my own opinion 😂
