    As a recovered opiate addict, these stories can be painful to listen to. Stay away from drugs people, that shit is the Devil. I used to be stupid enough to believe that I wouldn't be able to "feel" the music that I play or listen to, without "a buzz", but7 yrs clean, music still has the same power it's always had over me, if not more. Let music be your intoxicant of choice.

      It’s also worth noting that Mark Lanegan, Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell and Scott Weiland are all deceased and none of them reached even 60 years of age. Copious amounts of alcohol and drugs will kill you before your time, even if it doesn’t kill you today. Lessons in what not to do with your life. Good for you for getting clean.

      what opiates were you addicted to sir? I'm currently experimenting with codeine and alcohol, I know its bad for me but the feel is too great and also the stamina it gives me is much needed especially in the line of work I do. plz reply if you can man, I need someone to talk to about all this.

    • @billytrevathan6405

      Lee Saunders Be very careful with that combination sir. A lot of overdoses happen due to mixing alcohol and various opiates or benzodiazepines, like Xanax. I personally knew two people that died of Xanax overdose, one from heroin and one cousin from alcohol toxicity. The potential for chemical dependency and also psychological addiction is very high with all opiates, including Codeine. I would imagine that the coming down from that mix is pretty rough, huh? That’s where doing more to stop the detox process comes in. Next thing you know, your high/drunk all the time to avoid all the nasty effects of sobering up. Just a bit of insight from a man that’s 52 and has done many questionable things over the years.

      @@billytrevathan6405 I truly appreciate your feedback sir but as for the come down the day after I say no its very pleasant i feel the codeine cancels out any hangover for me, It makes me wake up very clean headed after excessive alcohol consumption. I have taken 6 codeine right now and I have drank 2 small bottles of vodka and 8 cans of beer and I feel great, tomorrow I will wake up feeling brilliant and after some breakfast I'll be ready to go again lol.

    The first real rock show I ever attended was from the very tour Mark mentions at start of this vid: AIC with Screaming Trees & Gruntruck opening. It was in Cincinnati, OH at Bogart’s. Early 90’s. Amazing fucking show. Alice was on fire. I remember Layne brought a random fan onstage and cut some of his hair off, revealing it was the first time he’d cut someone;s hair while on acid. Good times. A great time for music. Nothing since in terms of a real scene has stood up to it in my book.🙏🏻

    0:43 I was on an IV drip of dilaudid when I was in the hospital years ago. I was septic, organs were failing, and had flesh eating bacteria...... one of the wounds they had me on a wound vac, packed with surgical foam. Everyday they would have to come in and open it open and remove the foam. The wound was about 10 inches long and down to my ribs..... they'd hit me with the dilaudid before they did it as it would send my brain to a comfy warm cloud as they ripped open my wound over and over and they sealed it back up.
    Sorry to be so graphic, but I wanted to illustrate how strong and amazing this drug is. I cant even imagine taking it recreational.

      @johnwright9373Layne was Jonsying for it. He came to his house for that reason. If mark declined he would of went somewhere else. If you read the passage in marks book, Layne said he never wanted to stop and only went to rehab to “shut everyone up”. Layne introduced Mike Starr to heron. Mike star died a broke addict . Heroin ruined his life. What do you think of Layne for doing that? And he always enabled him when he hung out at his apartment. Mike was often homeless. He only had a few songwriting credits and got signicanrlg

    I can't even remember what I had for breakfast yesterday, and have never done drugs. This guy was a hardcore drug addict who could vividly recall, (with superfluous embellishment,) every little detail of his drug addled memories. 🤯
    Memories are subjective.

    • @konstantinov
      @konstantinov 2 года назад +1

      I went through a period of hardcore alcoholism akin to the early years Mark describes in his memoir. Only, in his case he quits drinking at 19 (only to pick it up substances again 5 years later) ... I kept going quite a bit longer. My memory of events that happened to me while sober is still relatively crystal clear. Now, granted, if I wanted to tell the tale of the escapades (more like disasters) that occurred while I was inebriated, then yeah, I would need to lean on the recollections of others. But I can still vividly detail events that happened to me 30, 40 years ago; addiction didn't destroy those memories in my case.

      I put Whiskey for the Holy Ghost on the other night on a drive and turned it up as loud as it goes. I sang, I smiled, I cried a little, and more than anything I just appreciated those songs. There's a handful of bands and musicians whose music changed you and you keep them in a special category of higher regard than all the others. Lanegan is one of those guys for me.

    Mark’s book is unflinching & brutal. The depths of deprivation recounted left me hollow. And hollow is where I like to call home. Little to no reason why this guy is still alive while others ain’t nothing but a pile of them bones. Such an innate talent he possesses while he did nothing but try to squander it. I’m glad he didn’t. Only wish Layne was still here too. But I suppose that is only my selfishness. He was clearly done living on this rock. Only the brightest flames burn the quickest 🤘💀🤘.

    Dilaudid is pretty serious. It's used in hospitals to treat post surgical pain.

    • @jovanreid6782
      @jovanreid6782 2 года назад

      Yes sir. Back in 2016 I fell from 25 ft high to the concrete, breaking both of my legs. I spent 4 months in the hospital and had multiple surgeries and was given Dilaudid whenever I said my pain was a 20 on a scale of 1-10, which was pretty much every few hours or so. It was the only pain medication they gave me that completely got rid of the surgical pain. But man oh man I'd be lying if I said I wasn't asking for it every few hours just to get that super nice high that came with it. Hands down the most good-feeling opiate-derived substance I've ever been exposed to, pure bliss, limbs just melt away, with a spark of creative flair, maybe the best feeling any drug has ever given me, save for pure MDMA. Never had Dilaudid again since the hospital. Goddamn, I wish it was easy to find the stuff on the streets. I'm seriously considering having another 25 ft fall if that's what it would take to encounter that god of an opiate again. Ahhhhhhh me.☺

I'm telling heads not to go anywhere near that stuff all the time, and that if anyone would have warned me as to what I as in for, that I would never have even experimented. But also, if anyone wants to know what it feels like, or wants to better understand how or why someone becomes a junkie or throws their life away over a drug, a nigga ain't gonna lie to nobody, either (especially if it helps mofos better understand where a nigga coming from). I haven't been the faithful Christian I used to be for a very long time. However, I do understand why the driver was upset about Lanegan turning what to him was holy into a tool to get high. I don't think the driver went about showing his displeasure correctly, though. About 25 years ago, I was visiting a friend in beautiful Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. My bible was on the front porch on a small table. When I returned from the lake with my friend, some guy asked "Hey, wanna smoke? I found a Bible and used the papers to roll a joint." My Bible, the one gifted to me by my deceased grandmother, was lying on the sofa next to the guy. I opened it up to the first page that says "This Bible is presented to___Dustin___by___Grandma___on this day___(insert date)___. I asked, "Do you wanna guess who Grandma is? No, that wouldn't make sense. How about 'Dustin,' do you wanna guess who that is?" His response "Oh, shit. Is that you?" I answered, "Yes, I'm Dustin." He looked a bit intimidated (I was an avid weightlifter in my 20's), I continued with "I don't like the fact that you used my Bible to roll a joint. But I'm not angry at you. That would defeat the whole purpose of why I read this book." We then talked about being peaceful, kind people. Man, I miss those days.

      That’s why heroin is better. It lasts an entire day. Methadone 2 days. It all has to be snorted or shot. You can’t smoke them and get any lasting effects. Burning a molecule to the point of vaporization is a waste. Decaf oxidation is different though. You lightly toast the drug. You’ll get really fucked. For some reason heat enhances and activates drugs molecular structure.

    I can relate to Mark and Layne as I parted ever so hard in the 90’s myself. I am only alive because I blew my pile of money too quick and could no longer supply my demand to party. One summer in particular still scares me to even think about because I got so fucked up. When you suddenly go from high style drug users as party pals to actual drug lords who might actually rob or kill you instead of party, you know you’re crowd went to shit. Never banged so many women in such a short time since. It was an extreme I always wished I could experience again but would be far too chicken shit to ever attempt.
