When I was younger CP was one of the places I wanted to work it looked fun and a job you would never forget. You literally meet thousands of ppl and see millions in a season.
I know this is an old video, but I will be working there in just a couple of weeks for the summer season and looking at a few of these kind of videos (including yours) really helped. I will be working in foods/Dishwasher so idk if a lot of rules and regulations are still the same almost 5 years later. But anyways thanks for the advice and I am looking forwards to riding some wicked coasters and making lots of friends!
I appreciate that you made this video! I'm going to be a ride op this summer at the Point and now I know a bit more about what to expect. With the virus of course it's going to be way different than any of the years you were there so hopefully it is fun!
Fun drinking game : Drink everytime Leah says " I wish I would have known " haha. I live locally, I would love to work there during the summer! I am there all day every day anyhow.
Yep. My college ride operator job had lots of interesting situations with the public including guest complaints, cleaning up, and interesting situations
Those Dorms , I heard was designed by the same guy who designed the County Jail. To be Truthful, The County jail is more comfortable. Those CP versions are AWFUL!
Thank you so much for this!!! I’ve already accepted a ride operator position for this year.... I’m expecting a ride interview any day now, I’m praying I get a spot at steel vengeance or dragster, you’re so lucky lol!!! This was very much appreciated!!
i worked as a screamster during halloweekends last year and it was one of the best experiences ive ever had. I met so many people that I still talk to to this day and getting my makeup and costume done 3 days a week was magical. now being in a dark haunted house for hours upon hours at a time with smoke and strobe lights is insanely challenging but sometimes the people are way worse. people would have bad reactions all the time and hit, slap, punch, kick, or jump at you, it was not pleasant. the audacity that some people had to not treat me like a human was insane, mostly the males. but other than that, i absolutely loved the experience (lol except getting home at 3 am with a stained pink face from the makeup)
Wish I knew how dumb the average park goer is. From jumping lockout fences to getting mad over losing stuff at their own fault, can be pretty frustrating.
@@Jillousa lol. I had a guest ask me where the "gopher" is. I was like "oh there is a gopher?" Abd the guest was like "nah the ride..." There's never been a ride called the gopher.
I've used to go to cedar point from 2003-2013, it was my kids favorite place!! Between the water park, regular park and the beach, they had a ball! We are from Brooklyn and would drive there, leave at like 3 in the morning and get there around noon! We stayed for two weeks!! True story, we befriended a ride operator for Powertower from Poland, and when she visited NY she stayed with us for a week to save on hotel fees! And when we went to Poland for my sins wedding we got together and she showed us around! We still get Christmas cards from her!!
Wow that’s so awesome! I’m glad to hear you guys made a friend and were able to maintain that friendship even after she left cedar point! A lot of employees stay in touch but that’s great that even as a park guest you guys got to stay in touch :)
Can you do a video about the worst park guest experiences? I’m a regular at CP and I thought this look behind the curtain (if you will) was really fascinating
Hi Leah, I'm working at CP this summer and I was wondering if I should bring my laptop? I'm working at one of the hotels and don't know if I should bring it for something to do/time-off?
I brought mine, it’s really just a matter of personal preference. You’ll have a locker in your dorm but you have to bring your own lock, I strongly recommend doing this and then just locking it up in your locker when you’re away from your room just to make sure your roommates/roommate’s friends don’t try to take it or mess with it.
Are there opportunities for career advancement if you start off as a ride operator? Like can you move up to more high paying jobs within the park or maybe be referred to a different park/company with a job that has more responsibilities?
Yes there’s a lot of opportunities to advance, I’ve seen many people become supervisors after a few years of moving their way up. And you always have the option to move to a different location within the park or even to an entirely different park altogether and apply for various roles. As long as you put the work in it’s very easy to advance.
Love your videos! :) Just a quick question. Do some ride ops at cedar point grant a little bit of (airtime) room when requested? I can imagine it's annoying with people trying to cheat the restraint (how do you deal with that btw?), but being stapled is also not a lot of fun and can impact someone's ride negatively.
Were the long hours, shitty dorms and probably almost losing your sanity sometimes worth it? Ive been going to cedar point for YEARS and im thinking about trying out working there for a summer
When you're new they assign you a ride, but once you get there and start working you can always ask to be trained at a different ride. And if you like working at another ride better, you can ask to be permanently moved there. It's not a guarantee, but it never hurts to ask. After your first summer, if you decide to come back the next summer they'll ask you where do you want to work and you can tell them your top choices.
@@LeahChurchwell Alright sounds good thanks! Also, so they could assign you a ride at camp snoopy or a coaster like dragster it just depends if you get lucky? Because I would rather work a coaster than at one of the children areas.
Heyy Leah how are you? I have a question I hope you can answer me if you know it, in cedar point they let the employees ask for work permits? For example, can I miss one day of work for external reasons and replenish those work hours another day?
Do you mean like a doctors note or something? If so, yes they do excuse days off with a doctors note and you should be able to make the hours up at another time during the week
I had a online interview I signed up to be a ride operator but no one told me what ride I will be working on.Im am doing a frying meeting with the HR department torrmow for what I need to do when I go to Cedar Point. This is 2020 and I’m 18 just to let people know and this is my first job.
Good video. The ride ops do a good job at Cedar Point. They should have orientation videos in this day and age if they don't. They pay $20/hr in 2021 so they don't have the premier coasters open late as they used to since they want everyone out of there sooner. They worked the steel vengeance crew pretty hard last season. a number fof years ago there was a ride op that was doing the spiel toward the end of the season with his thumb up in his sleep. Rude guests well the primary target market is detroit lol a dad in a red wings t-shirt yelled at me in the main arcade I said I don't work here. he just walked away with the kids no apology. for that reason alone I would never have worked there or as you said waiting tables. ugh that t-shirt. I knew Tony was doing that. I wish I would've been able to get one to sell for a premium to cubs fans with disposable income. - Cleveland Indians fan lol
Yes! When I worked there, tattoos weren’t allowed, however I do believe that has changed since then and visible tattoos are allowed as long as they aren’t vulgar/offensive
Yes you do get a roommate, as far as I know there are no single rooms. However you are able to pick your roommates, like if you have a friend who’s also working there you can request to be roomed together. Hope this helps!
I live in California and have no idea why I'm watching this. But here's a view and a like for a thorough talk about this park. Thanks for the advice incase I ever decide to work there
To the point of people being rude like that. That is the same thing I thought when I first started like people are gonna be happy etc. Until I got called the N***a word I was like woahhh lol
Because it's an incredible experience. It's a diverse work environment. It'll push you, physically and mentally. You learn a lot in the months you work there and you make friends that will last a lifetime.
I guess HR doesn't prepare new employees for anything. All of the things you talk about here should be part of a packet they could be distributing to employees. Even a Zoom meeting would be great so that people can ask questions. Shame on Cedar Point.

As an employee in general at cp, GET A GOOD WATCH, Bc tbh all employees aren’t aloud to have phones on them
Yes I second this!! A good watch is a must have!
Im 14 but im so excited to someday work at Cedar Point. Hopefully I will be able to live with my grandma so I won't have dorm issues.
So how did you end up working there or what got you into working at CP? Also, where did you get the Top Thrill Cubster shirt?!

Didnt they show a training video before you started?

Definitely worth it! I made so many great memories and I made friends that I still talk to on a daily basis today
I wanna work at an amusement park but I have a masive fear of vomit and I cant mentally handle angry people
I’m working at cp this upcoming summer . Do they have partnerships with any bus companies to get from the airport to the park ?
Awful that people are so rude. At an amusement park of all places! Just found your channel today, good stuff!:)
if you want to become a ride op do they assign what ride/rides you work or can you ask to work a certain coaster?
