If I come across this game I'll buy it, since imma go pick up ys8 in another city. But the best Ridge Racers are Type 4 and 5, and I was lucky to grab a copy of 5 earlier this year for 10 bucks.
there is one aspect of drifting you left out. the reason why you failed to drift those couple of times was because you also hadn't initiated your turn yet. in order to drift, especially a successful drift around tight/quick turns, you also HAVE TO initiate a turn in addition to lifting off of the throttle. if you just lift off of the throttle w/out initiating a turn in the slightest bit, you will run into instances where your drift will not begin and you'll simply run straight into the sides of the tracks. this is at least what i've discovered throughout my years/decades of experience with RR games.
Is it me or does this game sound just as bare bones as the original Ridge Racer on the PS1. Personally, I really like the OG game so I might give this game a try.

You can find a zen playing this game with ultimate charge. But you'll have an infinitely better time with R6 or R7
