You can get basically the game and all the dlc for about $30 though now, the retail version isn't very good, if you want it I definitley recommend you get the ultimate edition through the Ps Store, one of my favs on Vita.
On the other hand, the game was sold from the Vita's very launch, day one for an imo very reasonable 20 bucks. All cars don't handle the same, each has one has its own RPMs, gear ratios and drift type settings(incentivising you customize it every time you switch cars). Also there is the team-objective system. Which is nice because thanks to the Vita's modding community this game has sort of come back to life, also because the servers are to this day up and running. You can actually boot the game right now and find people to play online with and if the servers are empty or no one wants to play you can still download other players' ghost data to race against for more victory points and credits. Finally the game was updated to v1.02 giving the game a much more steady framerate. Seriously, RR is dope and has gotten WAY more flak than it deserved.
There is more to the game than you think, there are special modes called the demon and angel modes. I don't want to spoil them for you but the're great
People be complaining about how much "better" it was back in the day now that we have battle passes and lootboxes. Looks like it wasn't all perfect back then either.
Honestly gaming has never been perfect. Nostalgia often blinds people. I still remember dealing with botched PAL conversions during the PS1/PS2 games. The Blitz Ball in FFX looked like Rugby ball since the PAL had a squashed presentation. Not to mention, games has stagnated release dates across the globe. These days, games pretty much come out on the same day in country around the globe. I will never forget Atlus and Nintendo taking two years to release Trauma Centre Second Opinion in Australia.
It costs $12 at the moment on PSN... not worth it even at that price? with all the dlc costs $26 which is what it costs used on GS... i love Ridge Racer and i'm in need of an RR game... buy or no buy?
I did and it's understandable. But it's not true that the cars handle the same. Have you even unlocked the dual mode where you can race against the fastest cars Crindle and Archangel? And I don't find the customization a mess rather than finding what fits your style of racing. This game is only fun when you have wi-fi connection and it was meant to be which sucks for players who don't have access. The lack of Career mode is only a minor problem if you really think about it.
Namco really got raked over the coals for the Vita version. It looks like they learned their lesson. You can get a better Ridge Racer experience on the iOS for $3 USD with far more cars and tracks built in.
Well was directly from the Vita with my wallet funds :( I don't know, I always trusted on the Ridge Racer games and maybe because that I can't resist to buy it but well... that's my sad story :/ I'm from the American region, so I wasn't noticed for a sale yet o.o
I got it when the vita first came out (which means I also got the gold pack for free) because I was 12 y/o and foolish. There's also no store in my country willing to allow me to trade it in :(
If only they had full assed this instead of going EA. Ridge Racer might’ve lived on. Not that there isn’t hope, there was an attempted Nintendo Switch game, but just like with Ace Combat before, we’re waiting out a dark age, and if AC7 is any indication, it should’ve been over by now
Trust me, now I learned a very serious lesson, and yep was via PSN -_- Ok Now I'll subscribe to your channel for see all the reviews first and not make the mistake again :)
I'm a huge RR fan, RR vita, however, makes me feel a little bit disappointed. Nowadays if I wanna enjoy the fun of drift, I'll probably just grab my PSP and play RR2 on it (Wild Gang, Yamasa Raggio etc.
thing is i couldnt see an nice racing game with manual shift ... if there is any can you pass them on ... but something that uses full power of the vita not psp versions
I feel like this game has so much DLC and is so bare bones because it's unfinished. They had to rush it out for the launch of the PS Vita. Or at least that's what I'm thinking.
You are right. I don´t know where it was, but years ago I read interview with the devs and they stated they were given a very little time for this game to make.
Finally someone with wisdom. Yeah, to me graphics are somewhat better than in RR7 on PS3 and the driving engine (drifting) is updated from RR7. With a more time for the devs it could be an RR8 since PS4 didn´t get any.
Well as far as I know, RR Vita was the last RR? After Unbounded..? Sorry, can´t check right now. But that would be sad end for a series like RR, Flatout / ridge racer game. Unbounded wasn´t bad, but it just wasn´t a pure Ridge racer. Not Bugbear fault though.. It´s like with the square-ENIX..Since those companies joined itselfs (namco with bandai also), their grand series went downhill a little.
Wait how did you hit those speeds? I have this game and every car wont hit more than 240kmh. This game is brutal hard to win races dead last every lap by 30secs even if I dont clip any walls and drove flawless. Broken AI that goes double your speed
@@WindyCornerTV yeah I just found out longer I drive the cars level up. Currently at level 2 i think 5 is the max. Because i used a cheat for lvl99 the AI is brutal tough now on me till i max my car
I actually love this game.. I guess it does get boring quick once you get used to the full track including backwards.. But it was a nice game when it came out
Reason why people hates this game is the retail price and the content is so very low. The game has no reason to come back for. Think about it, 3 cars, 5 tracks. NES racing games has more content than that.
If it comes with the DLC, definitely. Just don't expect a serious racer that will keep you hooked for hours. But if you want a racer to mess around between buses or during a work break. I would absolutely recommend it. Because the core driving is there, it's just been done better in previous Ridge Racer games. Notably the two PSP games.
The DLC is not free, you have to buy at least the Silver pass. Yes retail copies come with a Gold pass, but if you buy it used (and there are no more new copies anymore) you're forced to buy the gold pass.
I looked at the web version of the European store (more specifically the French one) and the DLC is not free. Did you buy the Ultimate Edition on the PSN? Wish I'd watch this vid before wasting £16 on what may as well be a crappy demo. It'll be a long time before I consider spending money on anything Namco after this complete rip!
+RafaelDB64 Pretty much, especially the second one, Ridge Racer 2 on the PSP which has 21 tracks and runs at a smooth 60 frames per second, which the Vita one doesn't.
Thank you for the review man. saved me a buck. i like ridge racer actually. literally almost baught this right now
Ridge racer on PSP was brilliant. Such a shame they didn’t stick to that formula
Exactly 💯
You can get basically the game and all the dlc for about $30 though now, the retail version isn't very good, if you want it I definitley recommend you get the ultimate edition through the Ps Store, one of my favs on Vita.
Lucky i saw this vid,saved my money,thanks!
Aww what happened, I liked it better on the PS1 and 2 when DLC wasn't a thing! ;(

I bought this game a few days ago and I see nothing wrong with it. I don't see why everyone hates this game.
This is the reason why I say Rage Racer PS1 was the best Ridge Racer game of all time. All the features and none of the complaints.
Still got my PS1 copy of the first one and Type 4. I don't think Namco will ever truly top Type 4.
Love that game, but still, it only have 3 (ok, 4) tracks, yet no one is complaining today.
Original psp version was sweet
very honest review, when it published DLC, I thought I might but it. but now, I think I will leave it. thanks for your suggestions!
PSP version was still boss, this ...(speechless)
Thanks for saving me €7 ;) (discounted now)
how many tracks did Ridge Racer on the PS1 have?
The Nintendo 3DS version is much better! I purchased this version during clearance at Best Buy.
People who back up this game is a gamer zombie. We don't want no games ending up like this.
i was going to buy this . now no chance cheers for the video

Psp ridge racer is the best
Ridge Racer 2 on the PSP was the best since it had the most content, a perfect 60fps and meaningful progression.
what about rr7?
@@ezassegai4793 lol we spoke about Handhelds

I like your profile pic man.
@@mau4604 thanks a lot
Thank you for saving me!
Just got this and Shinobido 2 for free on PS Plus :)
Almost bought this for 4€, but now I'm not that sure anymore...
Why I never seen this? Now I bought this game and really hurts, seriously >_>
It could have been such a nice racing game for the Vita. What a shame.
Ridge racer type 4, a much better game, and cheaper :3 a hell of a lot more than 5 cars too.... ps1 FTW
Its like playing callofduty whith out the duty

I recommend WRC4 or Need for Speed Most Wanted on the Vita.
Cheers for the reply :D but i did not know the need for speed had manual shift ... i thought it was automatic only ?
I doubled check, you are correct Need for Speed Most Wanted does not support manual shift.
Thank you dude for checking :) that's awesome to get confirmation. :D

You are right. I don´t know where it was, but years ago I read interview with the devs and they stated they were given a very little time for this game to make.
Robin Šer It's sad. It had potential. The graphics are extremely good for a handheld game and the gameplay feels pretty tight.
Finally someone with wisdom. Yeah, to me graphics are somewhat better than in RR7 on PS3 and the driving engine (drifting) is updated from RR7. With a more time for the devs it could be an RR8 since PS4 didn´t get any.
Robin Šer well RR is pretty much dead after the last one (I think it was Unbounded?)

I bought at the launch day with vita. i expect to have the same experience i had with PSP ridge racer ,far from that
Ouch, 2/10. Mind if I ask what that score would be without the DLC problem (which is outrageous if you ask me). Also, great to see you are back! :)

“Terrible” racer is a bit of a stretch. Fun gameplay and beautiful visuals don’t qualify as terrible.

Nice graphics but looks extremely on-rails.
