  • A little shorter version of me trying to learn how to use a quick shifter. I was lucky to get to demo ride the Ducati Panigale V4 for my first experience. I feel, now seeing it, that I was short shifting pretty bad. Really fun.

    As a rider of 45 years and growing up learning to use the clutch to the best of its abilities, I hope this clutch less option doesn’t teach riders NOT to use the clutch and forget when coming to a stop. Remember the basics, enjoy the technology!

    Do not use it below 5000 rpm or u will hit falsenutral .7000 and up .i got 23 v4 80 miles on it i hit false nutral 2 twice. I call the ducati they say shift hard 7000 rpm and up form .cuz on the bike with 80 miles it impossible for forks or gears to be damaged.

      Anything after say 15 mph on this bike just feels ridiculously smooth and easy to ride. Ride ability factor 10/10. It’s actually scary b/c anyone with 6 months on a Ninja 300 could hop on and have major confidence.

      You can hold the throttle and let it rev down slower and downshift clutch less to learn where along the rev band it down shifts smoothly. I generally blip it while downshifting since I understand where along the rev band it down shifts down smoothly, I feel it’s more fun and fast that way.

  • @pointbreak24

    Wait so it's basically like a dual clutch for motorcycles except u need the clutch for starting and stopping? Am I right?

    • @deanb6163
      @deanb6163 3 года назад +1

      Not like a dual clutch. But the Quickshifter ties into the ignition system so it automatically slightly drops the rpm's when you put upward pressure on the shift lever to shift up. And blips the throttle slightly when you press down for downshift. But some bikes apparently only have quickshift-up, not down.

    • @pointbreak24
      @pointbreak24 3 года назад

      @@deanb6163 yep I'm aware of that but I still haven't found the answer to my question

    • @ScaredTrout2nd
      @ScaredTrout2nd 3 года назад

      @@deanb6163 Some bikes only have up and not down is because not all motorcycles throttles are fly by wire. Meaning they are cable throttles and the bike can’t auto blip the throttle for you in order to allow for a seamless downshift. Hence why they are called blipper functionality on the kits that support those bikes. You can get mechanical kits so it is possible but a lot more work and trouble than it’s worth honestly!

    • @poit444
      @poit444  3 года назад

      There are plenty of automatic motorcycle models like Honda’s Africa Twin. The quickshifter is more for racing as the technology utilizes the throttle meaning you can keep it wide open. There’s not many public places to use the V4 QS, but it’s fun to play with on the streets.

    • @dieseldavis3930

      is it OK to down shift without damaging your gear box? I keep hearing it's hard on the gear box

    • @poit444
      @poit444  3 года назад

      @@dieseldavis3930 I don't believe so. The QS device and auto blipper for downshifting maximizes the shifting that you'd be doing without them. It's all done in milliseconds and with precision. The creator of one popular quick shifter model states that a properly set up QS is actually less damaging since with a clutch there is still slight drag inside the gearbox.
