Its such a bummer Sega delists the games. Becomes harder and harder every year to just play some of these Sega classics
As for the music, totally agree, without Takenobu Mitsuyoshi singing? It wouldn't be a SEGA racer from the mid till late 90s :P .
It’s an odd choice for sure
@@VideoGameEsoterica Love the guy, even these days, he's a massive walking advertisement for SEGA :) . Whether he's in his "creepy uncle cosplay", in more serious garments or just is silly. The guy's a hoot :) .
He def seems like he’s living his best life that’s for sure

I mean, SEGA always had interesting characters, but he really stands out.
But then this is the company that had the "SST band" whom later became "Blind Spot" after they retired and are still performing LOL .
One of these is a 20 minute documentary, it has subtitles :). The documentary is actually quite interesting :).
But he still does regular podcasts as well :P .
Imagine ANYBODY at Sony or Nintendo doing this and still being employed! Only Microsoft had a few that were a bit, odd, but none came close to this. And with Microsoft it's often just Cringe XD .
Dude is just on send in the best way possible
Yeah, this version never really hit with me. It's not "bad", but I don't love it either, and I absolutely love Daytona USA. Not great Daytona is still good, but good isn't Daytona. Daytona is a masterpiece to me.
It’s def the lesser of the two versions for sure
Genki was involved with this port, and their racing games have this extreme twitchiness. but I really do like this port, to be honest.
They do tend to be a bit twitchy
🫡
Fantastic series.
Glad you are enjoying it!
Uploaded 9 seconds ago? I'm in 😅
lolol...thats just the publish time. Uploaded like four months ago
Man do we ever need a Daytona compilation!
SEGA had good intentions with the Ages ports, but just doing the wrong games. Also what's the deal with Virtua Racing only being on Switch? Oh, SEGA...
and sadly I doubt we will ever get it
@VideoGameEsoterica Like you've said, we should stop expecting Sega to do anything gamers want.
Thats the smart thinking lol. Sad but true
What about the 360 port ?
Great game but indeed the twitchy analog controls can ruin it if you don't customize them in some way.
Yes it does require some customization to get dialed in
Western releases at 3rd sensitivity make it play pretty close to the original.
Its so weird that the shadows don't map to the car on the emulation footage. It's kinda jarring lol
Bit of an oddity for sure
I've never really warmed to this port; the controls borderline spoil it for me. I think you can deaden the twitchiness on some racing wheels (which might help), but it's better in the arcade and even the 360/PS3 ports. Holding out hope for some sort of game-hack where someone "corrects" the controls.
Yes the controls do have a learning curve. Its def a game best played with a wheel
@@VideoGameEsoterica I bought a wheel specifically to play this port of the game, but it still didn't feel right. I'll give it another go one day; great video as always. By the way; tried the recent Daytona Championship USA (2017) in an arcade a few weeks ago and that didn't feel right either 🤣
Play around with the settings in the options menu. You can change the feel around a bit. 2017 is a fun but flawed game for sure
I've played the arcade version Daytona USA and now if I really want to play it I am forced to play it via emulation.
Most people are sadly
SUCH a shame it wasn't daytona usa 2 ....
also wasn't daytona usa either because physics where nowhere like it , played a lot but it's a frustrating experience that demands dedication
the physics were changed
@@VideoGameEsoterica let's just say butchered
Some people would agree for sure
Hopefully one day we'll get a definitive home release
We need a Daytona compilation for modern systems
@@VideoGameEsotericait could happen if Sega gets back the rights or rerelease them under a new name like they did with Sega Racing Classic, but I’m afraid only Daytona USA will be ported since it’s the most popular and well known of the series. I’d be happy if at least they rereleased the PC ports of Daytona USA and Championship Circuit upgraded to run on a modern PC and various improvements so that it could be modded to include more content from the other games of the series
But they won’t. It’s Sega after all lol
@@VideoGameEsoterica The only hope is that fans do the same that they're doing with Sega Rally and make a remake by themselves. If you don't know there's a Sega Rally fan remake called Over Jump Rally that recreates the original arcade game in Unreal Engine 5 that is currently being made for the PC.
Yes that’s probably the only way we will see stuff like this in the future
Really bad with the controller on the Dreamcast. But with my Mad Catz Racing Wheel it is a dream come true. The best Daytona Home Version you can have. Maybe the best version at all.
The wheel is where it’s at for sure
Great way to start my morning seeing VGE in action. Time to have my Bacon & Eggs breakfast to enjoy this from you bro. 8^)
Anthony...
No lasagna breakfast? At least it’s not Monday
Substance is everything and twitchy cars doesn't make for great gameplay. I have also hated the way that the rear of the vehicle bounces up and down, which is annoyingly frustrated on the eyes.
Suspension is in the club lol
I had this when it came out and thought it was bad bought it again if you knock the sensitivity down pick right tyres it's a bad ass perfect arcade racer the dogs bollocks
The dogs bollocks. Always a charming expression
And I meant that in a positive way :)
I thought it was odd how everyone praised the arcade original but when I downloaded on PS3 I thought it was ass compared to the Dreamcast version
Freakin LOVED Daytona USA in the arcade. Passionately hated every single port.
That's fair. Some people just dont love them
My thoughts on Daytona 2001
- Looks great if not arcade accurate
- Most of the extra tracks are meh
- Sound/music adequate
- horrible controls
Bout how I see it
control is indeed horrible.indeed
I hope someday a hacker will fix this issue
There is a widescreen hack already and also a arcade music hack.
But the controls... I have no idea what happened here
Just gotta use a wheel AND adjust in options. A lot of doing
Man the complaints about the controls in this are over the top. It's not that bad. Drop the sensitivity and practice a bit...
Otherwise the game is fantastic!
It’s a valid issue but one that’s easy to overcome
I only don't play this one because the reflections on that car are catching my eyes at an annoying rate
An interesting issue but hey…no judgements :)
I hate the car designs of the Daytona USA Dreamcast version!! Why didn't they made them like the original ones but better graphics? They look amorphous
I’m not sure why they felt the need to redesign them
The thirst for improved 3D graphics was immense at the time and Daytona USA was not that impressive anymore against 2000s racing games.
Yeah but why like this? It's awful@@SP95
Improvements were coming fast back then for sure
Just how it was
Online play works now. Only on real dreamcasts for now.
Sega. Why didn’t they just port this game to the arcade. Daytona championship USA sucks!!!!
Love this game. Works with a wheel.
I may do an online video one day
It's 100% made for the DC wheel, all the twitchiness will be gone if you can get your hands on one. Hated this on release but with the DC wheel the handling will be pretty close to the original and for me went from disappointing to possibly contender for best DC racer. If you've ever emulated an Arcade racing game that doesn't have pad support that's how Daytona USA 2001 plays on DC, like the devs made zero concession for pad players (iirc the sensitivity setting in the western version was added because of complaints after the NTSCJ version released). Also, there's a version of this that has the arcade OST modded back in, worth hunting it down. If you do get a DC wheel then look up the Ben Ryves 'de-deadzone mod' it elevates the racing experience a lot
Which was a big design mistake to target wheel over analog controller knowing the install base
@@VideoGameEsoterica Absolutely, one of the strangest decisions I've ever seen and it should have been tuned for both the controller and wheel play with controller as priority. The strangest part is that Sega perfectly translated the F355 Arcade steering wheel handling on Dreamcast, showing they were more than capable/aware that pad controls need consideration
It seems like a “Ran out of time…ship it” decision
Graphically it’s far superior to the Saturn release
oh absolutely lol
I don't like the shiny cars and the sensation of speed is absent. School Zone USA is what this should be called.
Lol dunno if I’d call it a school zone myself
. Its not that the game isn't good for you it's that your not good at the game. This game is superb for skillful gamers perhaps you have toe thumbs .
Toe thumbs huh? What would that even look like
