This video demonstrates a form of Hatha Yoga, which is a physical form of Yoga involving stretches, balances, and other physical challenges. This type of Yoga is probably the most familiar to the general public, although there are many other types of Yoga, such as meditation, Pranayama (control of breathing), and chanting. In fact, anything can be Yoga, if it is done yogically, that is with full concentration on the present moment and action, full devotion and humility, and no thought for the future results. Yoga as such is the true religion, and all religious practises have aspects of Yoga integrated within them. A particular method of Hatha Yoga is shown here, call Ashtanga Yoga. This is perhaps the most vigorous and arduous of Hatha practises. It aims to stretch and flex all parts of the body in all directions. As practitioners advance, it introduces difficult internal muscle controls, breathe controls, a reining in and control of the senses, until the whole being is poised and controlled, including the mind, which is stilled and one pointed. Dedicated and determined practise of this Yoga give a strong lithe youthful body which is never over muscular or disproportionally developed. The lungs breathe deep and strong. The cardiovascular system is smooth and steady. Digestion and elimination is rendered quick and complete. The senses become acute. The mind becomes sharp and concentrated, and memory is steadily improved. The practitioner gradually realises his or her fullest potential. Yoga is a gift from God to mankind. Through Yoga practise, anyone can work towards physical, mental, moral and spiritual perfection. I send my love and respect to the late great guru featured in this film, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, and to his guru Sri Krishnamacharya, who both together created this ingenious system. Let us practise fully and daily and all is coming.
@@mollyram2997 it's irrelevant to the yoga practice. He's just a teacher, a human. You don't throw out something that heals, uplifts and inspires because of a bad teacher.
Thank you! Taking me to my next practise level. I definitely needed this and I'm grateful that you share this with us. I'll keep practise. I cherish it. It keeps me focused, thankful and happy.
For some it takes years, some never do all of the postures. The important element is the experience, the journey, and how it strengthens and heals body and mind.
The great merit of yoga is that it never gets old. You can watch/practice series decades old that may be better than modern ones. Let's just hope it doesn't get too modern where you can only practice wearing "lululemon" pants or listening to "Gotan Project" (great music, btw).
The actual Intermediate Series begins at 24 min with Pashasana, the stuff before it is warmup with some variations of sun greetings and the so-called Standing Sequence (incomplete), which normally precedes also the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. (But there are easier beginner variations for most positions.)
El inicio de la 1er y 2da serie es igual hasta Parsvottanasana, a partir de allí en la primera se sigue con Uttthita Hasta Padagushtasana y en la segunda con Pasasana. Este video es de la segunda serie (o intermedia).
That would be over 3 hours. You're better off picking one or doing Bryan Kest Power Yoga, as he trained in Ashtanga but combines the first 2 series for miscellaneous classes and it's actually fabulous.
The ashtanga series are broken into a primary, intermediate and then multiple advanced series as I understand it. I think the description is just saying that in general its a very advanced and difficult series.
The physical yoga doesn't provide enlightenment. This is to prepare the body for long periods of meditation and breathwork. It's one of the eight limbs of Ashtanga yoga.

Comunque sempre grazie a questa meravigliosa pratica ,mi tiene in vita ❣️
I am impressed that Pattabhi Jois was 78 years old in this video
I've been practicing the primary series for years. I've never even seen some of these poses! Something to aspire for. Thank you.
Wow for years!! Just few days practice makes a lot of difference. I wish I could practice it for long long time.
Maybe alternate primary and secondary every day?
Well, this is the next series so it makes sense, lol. But your dedication to your practice is very admirable. 😊
Dis one is series 2
Namaste. This daily practice works miracles. I am very honoured to have the opportunity to practice with Sri. Pattabhi Jos.

Never seen quite a number of new poses. Fantastic they look like boneless. They must have been practising for years
Oh yes, they did practice for years, all but the two women teach today. One woman passed away, the other teaches and does yoga, but not ashtanga.
WONDERFUL ! Greatest Yoga video ever. Thanks a lot

this is wonderful but i don't think i can do this all🔥🔥🔥🔥💪💪
You would start with the primary series, learning one pose at a time.
this is most fantastic, thanks!
beautiful.. thanks a lot!!
and this is intermediate??? woww i imagine how advance would be
Karandavasana is the most difficult pose in this series, I’m working on it now. ✌🏻💪🏻
Jamás en mi vida podría hacerlo, de admirar !!!
You'd be surprised at what you can do if you start with one posture and progress slowly. 😊
Immense thanks for sharing
Wonderful

And from 1h they enter the Finishing Sequence, which again sandwiches also the Primary Series.

Hi,
Where can I learn this yoga in India?
Mysore @Sharath Jois Centre
Manju Jois also travels and teaches yoga. He's a better teacher, frankly.

Would it be possible to do the two series in one practise?
Yes, you can stack Primary and Intermediate Series in the same practice, it's quite a long practice though, at least two hours.
There are teachers who combine the two for a more balanced class. Hisnosn, Manju, does that as well.
That would be over 3 hours. You're better off picking one or doing Bryan Kest Power Yoga, as he trained in Ashtanga but combines the first 2 series for miscellaneous classes and it's actually fabulous.

Adam is that the full second series because I sow the CV of Kino she does scorpion posture and some back bends also ?
As of 1993 this was 2nd series. It might have been augmented since then.
Why do you have it in the title that it's intermediate when they say it's advance?
The ashtanga series are broken into a primary, intermediate and then multiple advanced series as I understand it. I think the description is just saying that in general its a very advanced and difficult series.
You could call this the Secondary Series to make it clearer.
Wow. Will truly love my practice to reach to this level of cam and stability of body and mind. Where can I get to this level?

Hmm.. Is it me or the practice had skipped Laghu Vajrasana? Or was it a new invention?

Laruga Glaser and Kino have videos on here doing 3rd and 4th. I'd imagine Swenson does as well.

The physical yoga doesn't provide enlightenment. This is to prepare the body for long periods of meditation and breathwork. It's one of the eight limbs of Ashtanga yoga.
