No kidding! Especially down here in South Texas its always really windy! First time I've ever been lucky enough to target tailing reds like that! Thanks for watching really appreciate it!
@@MesquiteOutdoors thank you I'll add that to the list of kayaks to look up before I go out and buy one. Also keep up the posting, just watched some of your other videos thier awesome.
Beeswaxs956 definitely! I got a new one coming in the next few days. If your interested in Hobie kayaks we have a Hobie dealer here in the valley. Fin Factory in Mercedes
Don't take them all leave us some lol, u didn't see NY snook chopping by that marker, by the entrance u might see a shark one of these days lol, we have seen a couple lately, nice video brotha
Lol man this was badass day for me. First I actually limit out on reds on the kayak. Na man I didn't see any snook but then again I've never caught one so lol. Do you usually catch the snook in the same areas you catch reds/trout or do you find them in different spots? Thanks for watching bud!
We usually dnt catch them in the same areas I dnt know if snook or reds get along lol, but yeah along the mangroves throw some top water red and white usually does the trick with them snooks, the just hug the mangroves out there in south bay on ur yak u have some advantages that u can get in as osters guard the entrance lol
Next time u head out there message me I'll point out some spots that go from inches to several feet and has mangroves on both sides but Its nice muddy area so should hold fish in the cooler weather but mostly only accessible by yak on a normal tide,
Thanks for watching bud! It was so cool to see that! That's actually the first time I've experienced that. Hard not to get nervous when your approaching them
Dude love the content! Also in the valley coming from bass fishing and wanting to start salt! Definitely subscribed! If you don't mind me asking what size rod and reel are you running??
It's been a long time since padre island I worked on an oil supply ship for Graham and sons out of bayou la battery al. I'm a south fl. Boy but lived in texas,,I always thought it was funny that Texans don't eat mullet lol enjoy
As kids in FL daddy used to put a cane pole in our hands their where 6 of us didn't take long to get a mess of fish,, bass are so boney when you get one stuck in your throat you could swallow bread to dislodge the bone so you could swallow it lol. as far as a mullet sandwich never ate one never heard of it but the grouper sandwich is famous,,, mullet are very tasty if you take the skin off after
Great video. I have fished south bay before. I just got a kayak and will be taking my first kayak trip soon. In your opinion whats a good place that produces and its good for a beginning kayaker like me?
Hey thanks for watching! Congrats on the new kayak! A great place to start is behind the convention center. I got a video on that spot check it out. It's a great spot cause you don't have to paddle very far to find fish
Yes sir, thanks! I normally fish with some friends at the arrollo on a boat but i really want to get into kayaking. I know about that spot, never really fished it but i hear stuff about gators, that’s what has me a little suspicious on that.
I've heard that too but never encountered any the couple times I've been. Another spot to launch is right by the causeway on the island side. You can fish the shoreline north or south of the causeway.
Yes i’ve been told about that too. I’ve fished the area south of causeway before inshore though, didn’t do that good. Well, ill see what spot I’ll choose for my first solo trip. I was honestly thinking mexiquita flats but idk if thats too ambitious for my first time...
It's doable just check the tide chart and winds and pick a good day 👍. Not sure if you'd already a member but the 956 kayak anglers Facebook group is good to join. Lots of great info posted and easy way to join up with people that are heading out
That’s awesome thanks for watching! I’m still yet to crack the 25” inch mark my best is 24.5”. I’ve fished that area on a boat before but I need to try and see if I can take the kayak out there
I have in the past but I usually prefer to launch from isla Blanca but you definitely have to pick the day to go when the weather is right. I might need to try going through boca chica again to see what ends up taking longer. More driving vs more kayaking
Your video is very nice and perfect. As one person who likes fishing, I want to be your neighbor and continue a good relationship. Good luck with your channel's prosperity.
Convention center for sure. Get a few trips under your belt before you go out to South bay. With South Bay I try to pick days that the wind and tide are in my favor if possible
we launched from Isla Blanca park in SPI. It’s about 2 miles to the entrance. A lot of these fish were caught pretty close to the entrance. I know some people launch by driving down boca chica beach but I’ve never done that
Thanks for the kind words my friend! Wanted something that really represented South Texas Outdoors. Welcome to the channel! Hope you get a chance to check out some of the other videos! Yes sir live and fish her in the valley! Hoping to make it out for a couple outdoor adventures here soon
Mesquite Outdoors that’s awesome man! Would love to do a collab with you. I’m down here too doing fresh and salt as often as I can. Come check out my channel if you get a chance.
Ya in my experience it has been worth it. I usually go straight there but I know alot of people like to make a pit stop at the Mexiquita flats before heading to South Bay.
Thanks for watching bud! I'm using a fish stix rod (medium). 1/8 oz weedless jig heads. I think another thing that makes a difference is braid. Light braid casts far
Great video man! i have always wanted to try South Bay fishing but dont know where to dock from. I usually go Holly Beach. How long does it take you to get to South Bay?
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it! I launched from Isla Blanca from South Padre Island. It takes me about 30-45 min to get to south bay. I try to go when the wind/current isn't to bad. You can also drive down Boca Chica beach and launch from that side.
@@EduardoHernandez-ir8xi I’ve never personally done it but I know people drive down boca chica beach to the jetty area. Depending on the tide and if it’s been raining recently you can make it pretty close to the mouth of Southbay if you follow the shoreline/trails
Looks like a great day fishing. As a viewer I'd love to know what you were using as bait, and how you rig it. Otherwise I'm not learning much from your videos.
The entrance is Southwest of South Padre Island. West of Boca Chica Beach (behind the beach). South of the Brownsville Shipping Channel. Hope this helps
