Both or you are so gifted and astute, it is just a treat to have you in the same room. There are a handful of good impressionists, but Kevin is not only spot on, he has them saying THE funniest things! And Ala, OMG, I fell in love with his artistry when I watched him playing a loving and desperate father in Popi in 1969 when I was 9 years old!
Beautiful. So much to comment on. First of all, Mr. Arkin is truly one of the most talented actors of the last 50 years. He truly becomes his characters. Secondly, he's been in some of the most interesting, if not well-known, movies of the last 50 years: The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, Catch-22, and Popi are three of my favorites of all time. And lastly, his Brando story is one of the greatest showbiz stories of all time. Yossarian Lives!!
I've admired Arkin's acting for decades. From " The Russians... " to " Kominsky, " he has always hit a home run for me. His portrayal of Lt. Rozanov was impeccable! " Whittaker Walt...don't do it no more. " And as John Singer, the deaf- mute in " The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, " he was extraordinary!
Catch-22 is a classic as is the heart is a Lonely Hunter also loved him with James Caan in the quirky film, Freebie and the Bean. Saw three times with my high-school girlfriend and we laughed our heads off! 😅🤪
That's where I first saw him and I remember thinking, "who IS this guy? he can't be an actor... he's too real... does he know how funny he is? does he know this isn't a comedy?" He's so brilliant in it he becomes an obsession the more you watch the movie. He's amazing in Grosse Point Blank, and so is his friend Barbara Harris... she's astonishing as Cusack's mother.
if you are a "In Laws" fan , Kevin does the best Peter Faulk ever. (28:43) Great interview Alan Arkin is one of the best ever. Thanks Kevin for great interviews.
Re: what he talks about 10 minutes in, about people laughing when their minds go blank - I've always theorized that we cry when we don't know what to do, and we laugh when we don't know what to think.
Two of my favorite celebrities on the planet. I’d have said “people” instead of celebrities but it wouldn’t have gone over well with my mother. Or my wife.
My lord, it's Harry Roat Jnr. from Scarsdale. What a great sadistic killer he played in Wait Until Dark & terrorising Audrey Hepburn. Also enjoyed him in The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter. His acting ability is quite diverse. Just realised apart from Julie Herrod from WUD Alan is the only one left from that movie I think.
48:38 to 50:30 should be Alan's next acceptance speech. That was poetic, precise, off the cuff wisdom from a man who has seen most things. This alone is reason enough for this entire chat show, and maybe podcasting and even the internet as a whole to exist.
Alan Arkin in movies was the consummate stable straight man dealing with Crazies all around him. Catch-22, the Inlaws and The Russians are Coming to name a few.
Brando greets him with " I can't believe it's really you," says he's seen "In-Laws" 20 times, imitates his favorite scene of the movie, which has Arkin, many times over dinner and Arkin doesn't really know why Brando had them over for dinner.
Mr Arkin bought gas at a station I worked at, missed him every time he was there. Even at that I would watch him read a phone book, so that's for this Kevin.
Oh my God. They really need to make that original script version of Blazing Saddles. Just Alan explaining the original concept had me laughing out loud. It makes me disappointed in Mel Brooks because I didn't think his Blazing Saddles was all that funny. It was more FUN than funny. The In-laws was a much funnier film.
Kevin always wears a hat because he's self conscious about going bald. I saw one interview where someone actually said, "Hey, we're indoors! Why don't you take off your hat?" and Kevin became very annoyed.
No he did not. Eddie Murphy was the one to beat that year not Mark Wahlberg. I am glad Alan Arkin won he should have gotten it for The heart is a lonely hunter. The Academy gave it to Cliff Robertson for Charley instead.
I could listen to this interview a hundred times and not get bored. Love you always, Alan Arkin. Godspeed and rest in eternal peace.
I'm so glad Kevin did these interviews. The ad-packed talkshows these days don't allow a real conversation. RIP Alan Arkin.
2022,..........Recently re-watched Catch 22,...one of Alan Arkin's early films. Still a delight.

Alan Arkin, modest and as honest as his performances. I always smile with delightful anticipation.

How about Inspector Clouseau?
Rest in peace Mr Alan Arkin. Kevin Pollack does the best vocal impression of alan arkin.
Indian Summer .One of my Favorites . Very Underrated
Alan Arkin one of my favorite actors along with Donald Sutherland, Gene Hackman and Bruce Dern, loved freebie and the bean
Well, now I'm just hooked on the show and I'm binge watching one right after the other. Great work here.
Have been a fan since Simas Kudirka film. Many thanks.
Arkin and Mike Douglas in _The Kominsky Method_ are SO fabulous, really the funniest comedy show in years, imo
I love the Bean! 👍
Catch-22 is a classic as is the heart is a Lonely Hunter also loved him with James Caan in the quirky film, Freebie and the Bean. Saw three times with my high-school girlfriend and we laughed our heads off!
😅🤪
Refreshingly, the guest is audible almost immediately.
Love Arkin in Glengarry Glen Ross.

What 🤔☕🥁🌉
The end about meeting your heroes is so true because you’ll often be disappointed. But the Brando story was very funny!
So sorry that none of Arkin's beloved roles were discussed. We would have loved to hear about Papi, The Russians Are Coming, Catch 22. Too bad.
Yes indeed.. Stephen Hill in "running on empty". A very moving performance. He's only got that one scene I think. Great scene.
It´s like watching Kevin talking to himself imitating Arkin.
I love Alan Arkin

Did they ever do part 2? If so, what episode number?
Freebie and the Bean....hilarious movie
I needed a bizarre fix.....
Eureka!!!!!

Bean! It's Bean! From Freebie and the Bean
His performance in Popi - 1969 is worth a watch. Thank me later.
I love the Brando story. How could you be as famous as him and not be slightly nuts. The dude changed film acting forever.
the best interview of the series--Arkin is so erudite!
Alan Arkin in movies was the consummate stable straight man dealing with Crazies all around him.
Catch-22, the Inlaws and The Russians are Coming to name a few.
For the longest time, say 1980-2000, where was Alan Arkin? One of the best actors ever, like Nicholson, he can do drama or comedy equally well.
i don't get your question - he was in plenty of good movies over that time?
A conversation between 2 national treasures.
Rest in Peace, buddy...
Brando greets him with " I can't believe it's really you," says he's seen "In-Laws" 20 times, imitates his favorite scene of the movie, which has Arkin, many times over dinner and Arkin doesn't really know why Brando had them over for dinner.
RIP Alan Arkin
I could see Alan Arkin playing Groucho Marx. Anybody else?
I don't have to search for words. I don't have to search for uhh.. uh.. uuhh.
Mr Arkin bought gas at a station I worked at, missed him every time he was there. Even at that I would watch him read a phone book, so that's for this Kevin.
The pre-Rogan Experience
This is a rare occasion where Kevin actually conducts an interview well.
I am so pissed off that Alan is not with us 😤

What does Kevin Pollak have in common with the anonymous guy writing this comment?
We both can't hear enough about the making of the "In Laws".
Why not get @LewisBlack for KPCS?
Marlon Brando story is hilarious.
8:40 - I agree with Alan.
Tat's why my favorite scene in Life of Brian, is this one: ruclips.net/video/hmyuE0NpNgE/видео.html
"You don't get this on Kimmel."
Sobibor!
Kevin always wears a hat because he's self conscious about going bald. I saw one interview where someone actually said, "Hey, we're indoors! Why don't you take off your hat?" and Kevin became very annoyed.
I haven't lost my hair, it's just moved to my ears. -- Alvin in MOM
Arkin is divine. Pollak, lose the hat. It's creepy
The omniscient afternoon indisputably hang because anteater emphatically slow forenenst a nappy dipstick. lean, best innocent

Totally. Marky Mark earned that shit.
No he did not. Eddie Murphy was the one to beat that year not Mark Wahlberg. I am glad Alan Arkin won he should have gotten it for The heart is a lonely hunter. The Academy gave it to Cliff Robertson for Charley instead.
