As a Trombonist for 20 years I can assure you it is NOT easy to play that high, with that rhythm, with that pitch. This man truly deserves to be called a legend!!!
"I have played trombone for 3 years and keyboard for 5 years. Currently learning Viola and violin. TRUST ME, KEYBOARD IS MUCH EASIER THAN VIOLIN" Your own words, from your quora profile.
Take that, asshole.
When you say not easy, that is an understatement. To do it live, while improvising, and nail it on your first and only chance, is impossible. Wycliffe Gordon is not human.
have you ever done marching band because that's what you're describing right now while I agree Wycliffe Gordon is top 5 best trombones the high notes weren't that impressive@@coopersanders2340
Trombone Fun Fact: The trombone has the potential of being the loudest non-electric instrument
Trombone fun fact: Old trombones were called sackbuts
what about a 9 foot concert grand or a subcontrabass sax ?
@@florist309 Nope. Believe it or not. A man with large lungs on a trombone can probably make your eardrums explode and send you to the ER.
Avery Calhoun can confirm. Mr Gordon teaches my jazz class, and he def doesn’t hold back when he plays lol
One of my section leaders has powerful lungs and is bass trombone and it hurts my head.
He makes playing in that high Bb range look effortless
Is it possible to learn this power?
@@keithreynolds9508 not from a Jedi
Damn I’m so bad at playing that high and he does it as if it was nothing
that’s because it is easy
@@keithreynolds9508 takes a while to get it down, but it's possible.
The smooth sound in the second piece is absolutely mind boggling
+Daniel Bullock Jazz players got tone too
Daniel Bullock yes it does!!😭

Never knew a trombone could sound like that awsome...
k9m42 it all depends who's playing it, really :)
+Rovix true
+k9m42 my trombone lesson teacher steered me to watch this after i taught HIM how to do the poly-something or other (singing into the trombone while playing) which i learned to do while screwing around.
+RionA Hess multiphonics?
i do believe so yes
He makes the trombone look so small lmao
Ikr
*HE DOSE*
I just realized how bad I am at trombone
Cancerous Error same here lol
Sameeee
Hahahahahahaha you are really not, i said that before 2 years, and i today see how much i mistake. This is now funny, this guy is not playing!
Lol me too
Please do you know what kind of trombone he's using?
My friend: Talking to girls is easy!
Him when a girl says hi: 2:07
good comment
I said a lop bam roney. Wibba da zap. Bobba da bap. A hot trom-boney
You know you’ve made it when the audience claps before you even start playing
They don't teach you how to play like this in band class !
U learn to play like this by gettin private lessons, or college, i believe
you have to listen to more music and follow your ears.
@SinisterMinister *wont try
first you need a good trombone player!
No definitely won't not can't. Only thing separating you from him is hours of practice.
I've work with Wycliffe. Such a great guy. His philosophy is: if you can sang is, you can play it. Yes, sang it, he doesn't say sing it, he says sang it. So start sanging if you wanna sound like Wycliffe.
Thanks so much I was looking for some of his hints and lessons to improve thanks .
So thankful that our Jazz Band got to have some instructional time with this legend
Really!?!? Jezzzzzzzzz! Luckyyyy
This makes me wish I hadn't sold my trombone a few years back.
+Spruce Bruce feelsbadman
Spruce BruceHow difficult are they to play?
Not that difficult. I couldn't make a sound on a reed instrument, or any other instrument for that matter, until I picked up a trombone many years ago. From that point on, all it took was time, time and practice. The instrument starts to feel like it's an extension of yourself. It becomes natural, part of you.
BushmasterXM15E2S Trombones, just like most brass, except the French horn, can be played by putting your lips together and blowing
Then how the heel do you play the horn?!?!
This is a good video to get trombonists jealous lmao, Wycliffe is amazing.
Check out Jack Teagarden on YT,, He will blow your mind!
ok can we just take a moment to appreciate the absolute size of this lad
Absolute unit
*ABSOLUTELY A HONKER ROOONY IF I SAY SO WICH I DO*
1:03 - 2:00 One of the most beautiful versions of Wonderful World I have heard. Every note is perfectly placed, and right where it should be. Wycliffe = G.O.A.T
Can you tell me. What name is the song?

THE MAN SPEAKS IN TONGUE! AMAZING!!!!
You want to impress me? Translate it. :-)
2:20 your welcome
Underrated.
Just saw him play this weekend at Generations in Jazz at Mt Gambier, South Australia. Not only is he an absolute master of the trombone, he's also a great entertainer.
Same
Same
Way down town in New Orleans
+Mr Smuggle remember the double bass player?
Is he going to be there next year?
Omg...Wycliffe Gordon and David Childs playing practically together........so amazing
I see that the band is simply shocked for how good he is at singing
0:46 tryin to get that high note be like
The Mighty Lion Quite Literally
Some musicians play musical instruments, others are the essence of music.
Now THATS SOUL, ENERGY AND LIFE PUT IN TO THAT RIGHT THERE
God, I love him in Jazz, such a personal when he plays. The trombone is his voice! Well done
hooooh my god, that second piece was freaking gorgeous
I thought I knew how to play the trombone, but I see now that I know nothing in comparison to this trombone genius. Five Stars and may God Bless him forever !!!
He did a lick from Teagarden's Stars fell on Alabama! Nice.. The king of T-bone!
Wycliffe has for sure developed his own unique style, great triple tonguing
This guy goes through one trombone every 30 minutes because by 30 minutes, the trombone turned into gold. He can't use the gold trombone because not even a gold trombone is worthy.
that means the microphone is also not worthy...
So what happens when Joe Alessi even looks at a trombone then?
Turns into silver
even the audience turns into gold
Does anyone know if Wycliffe ever used a plunger? Especially in Dis Moanin
I always love seeing an incredible group of players like Cory Band accompanying an incredible soloist like Wycliffe!
The duality of trombone man
Goes from crazy jazz to sweet relaxing tune to ASHOODADIDIDIDIDILILIDI to an alarm clock and back to the jazz
I used to play trombone for years in school and was always first chair. I wish I would've kept it up. This guy is amazing!
this guy is legendary
WOW! What a gift! He's amazing!
0:37 that high F! (F5) wow
lessons for 9 years. I just got that note to come out about two weeks ago.
+Sticks For Sale after a year of lessons I got it lol, that's the one thing I got going for me tho...
Sticks For Sale I managed to be able to repeat it a few weeks ago and I've only played two years, however I'm sure you have a much better tone than me.
I've only been playing for 4 years and I can get that note pretty easily... (with the price of a 30 second headache)
I don't take lessons though...
I wouldn't be hesitant to say Wycliffe is one of the best in the world. His music is moving in a way that other players just can't replicate.
Tenho que viver mais umas dez vidas para tentar tocar igual.
Muito bom, Bravo.
This guy is the best trombone player!
This musician is very good. He has the mastery of his trombone. I liked
Amazing...what a very beautiful solo..glissando frullatto too, also! The King of Trombone!!!
had no idea one could flutter tongue 0:45 w/brass trombone! wow LOVE it ... almost like 'husky jazz voice' done so fast
Some of it is flutter tounging, most of it is growling in the back of the throat.
What a great night remember it like yesterday. Amazing.
Wow he truly blew me away! So much beauty in this instrument :)
Mr Gordon puts the soul into his interpretations. Beautiful Orchestra
oh. my. god. This man's trombone speaks more than a thousand words.
Man, still haven't figured out how to do that bubble type ripping, up and down, like damn it's so cool!
Figure it out yet?
Roll your r’s while playing
I always heard when gordon was playing like hes trying to be heard over a nuclear explosion. I never knew he could sound so beautiful.
Legend doesn't begin to describe it!
Stellar Performance........Unbelievable breath control and position accuracy.....So blessed !!
dá pra sentir q o Wycliffe toca com amor
As a trombonist who has been playing for 10 or so years I can say this much
Playing like this takes years to be good at
hes the reason I love jazz. hopefully I become good as him. doubt it tho 😂😢
I prefer tone over speed and tonguing, which is why I love him because he's got both
Legend indeed, what a fabulous musician.
Omg! Incredible. Playing a trombone in the 3rd octave is a task in itself. Hats off.
+Leonard What do you mean playing in the third octave? I've played trombone for 9 years and am majoring in it and have never heard of that.
+Nick Warmuth Shame on you for not knowing. I have been playing the Trombone for over 30 years. The Definition of an octave is a progression of eight notes on a musical scale, or the notes at the beginning and end of the progression. Two Musical notes which are eight tones apart on a scale are an example of an octave. Anyone who practice their scales both major and minor should know this. Especially a trombonist who has been playing for 9 years.
+Leonard I definitely know what an octave is. I just have never heard the term "third octave". I assume that's the notes from C3 to B3 which isn't that impressive of a range. It's not even up to middle C.
30 years? Man, I just started my second year.
I think he meant the C above the middle C haha
Высший пилотаж, виртуозная импровизация, браво!
Very much like "What a Wonderful World" - question - what is with the 65 nimrods that gave this thumbs down? Don't like music? Don't enjoy happiniess? Joy? Life? Miserable misanthropes...
Lmai
Going through youtube to decide which instrument I should pick up. I had JUST taken trombone off of my list, but now it's back on.
Wy is one of a kind!
He got that thang sounding like a trumpet at times wow!! Awesomeness!!
That's the trombones versatility....it's the most versatile brass instrument
Very good. thanks.
Amazing!
This dude is insane!!
In high school I used to play higher notes on my trombone then our best trumpet player, he was 1st chair state, I was only 1st chair regionals. Didn't realize how good I was until college played for my classes and books. Good times
saw him live at the jen jazz festival in Atlanta, he's a really cool guy!!
I’m the only person in my music class that practices at home and am the best trombone player in my music class. Everyone else just copies off my songs because I wrote down the positions under the notes, and they ask me to practice for them, and tell me to write down the positions under their notes. I hope they get 1s (the lowest grade in my elem school.) I should really tell my music teacher this!
Im one of the only people who dont practice at home and im the best trombone in my class
R_ _down that’s probably because you have natural talent.
I always say that the best musicians have their own different way of playing. That special voice is like another name for them. Wycliffe Gordon is no exception. That just shows that there is no one set way to play an instrument. Do what fits you the most, and if it sounds good, keep working on it!
I did not know this Dynamo was out there tearing up the trombone!!!!!
encore un moment magique avec ce musicien hors pair !!!!vu en concert au limoux brass festival en 2016
Wiclife Genio! 💕
Holy crap that's so nice!
Amaaazingggg 👏👏👏👏👏👏💙💙💙
I love this video so much I can't stop watching it :´>
Just how good is this guy.
This man can seriously talk by playing the trombone I'm not playing. LOL
Holy crap he's amazing
Phenomenal, I wish I was this good. Love it.
Este tocador de trombón es muy bueno. Él tiene el mando perfecto de su instrumento. Es bueno oírlo.
legendary trombone...great.
Product of Florida A&M University's famous "Marching 100"
Holy crap!! Amazing..
ik speel ook trombone maar ik moet nog wel effe wachten voordat ik dit kan
Outstanding melodies!
Not only is this a grat solo, its preformed with a strait tenor
yes exactly what I noticed!
By being a small bore instrument it is easier to reach the high notes, and if it had a trigger then it would be a lot more difficult to reach notes so high
all good jazz players use straight horns, triggers are just dead weight in stuff like this
His growls sound like an impact driver...I love it
Oi this mans talent is crazy good like I need to see this one day
SUPER
Trombone legend?... Trombone/jazz music lord and master of forever...
Wonderful.
Those lines from 1:24...Mmmmm
2:00 Legend has it this is how members of the rare species 'Legendary Trombonist' communicate. It is impossible for humans to comprehend the emotion they convey to others of their kind using this language.
Trombone orgulhoso... Quem sabe... sabe.. Adelante.
Fabulous stuff
Its perfect
素晴らしい!!!
grand pause at the end take.your time buddy u have all the time in the world literally
I'm still working on hitting those really high notes on my trombone. ;D
AWESOME
Very,very good....
Just WOW!!!
Holy Fuck! Even knowing what I was getting into that was a level of surprisingly fabulous beyond.
