That is some rich Minnesota Vikings History right there. The younger generations barely know of Metropolitan stadium. I heard stories of my grandpa and my dad having season tickets in the 60s and 70s before the Metrodome was built. Very cold games!!!
A lot of Vikings shows mention it (PurpleDaily, Kfan) that’s how I learned more about that stadium. I still think we should’ve gone with an outdoor stadium but the bank is incredible
Looks like the Met had a lot of history: The Minneapolis Millers minor league baseball team was the original tenant from 1956 to 1960, but Metropolitan Stadium was best known as the home of the American League's Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League (NFL); both played at the "Met" for 21 seasons, from 1961 through 1981. The Minnesota Kicks of the North American Soccer League (NASL) also played there from 1976 to 1981.
I love the comment from Manning when they were talking about both teams being on the same sideline and how the Patriots wouldn't even had to have had filmed them! LOL
@@243wayne1 It would have been easier for the pats to spy on them if they were on the same sideline. They could hear and see them so they wouldn’t need to film them. A dig at the pats reputation for bending the rules (cheating)
That's one of those plays that instantly burrowed itself deep into my long-term memory. And it's what flashed through my mind in the 2017 season Divisional playoffs when Case Keenum connected with Stephon Diggs for the Minneapolis Miracle walkoff TD. We don't have a superb bowl victory YET, but we have a plethora of great teams, great seasons, great players and great plays. NFL Football is a phenomenal spectator sport, the favorite of tens of millions of Americans.
Wow...I watched that game as a kid on NBC! I had two favorite WR'S growing up. Ahmad Rashad (which was my nickname given at school when we played during recess), and Fred Billetnikoff.
Total sidebar. My grandparents spent nearly every Friday in the 80s dancing at the Thunderbird. One night, there was a country act there. My grandparents were not big country fans, but they liked this guy. He even sat with them and asked them about being blind and how they learned to dance (They were blind from young ages). He told them his first album was coming out soon, and he was really excited. His name was Garth Brooks.
@@MichaelMiller-tm2os Garth played the T-Bird?! Man, I thought that place was kind of run down in the 70’s but it was kind of a cool run down if you know what I mean. Great story!
I remember that day on 12/14/1980, NBC's Bryant Gumbel notified the viewers on live air, "The Minnesota Vikings win the NFC Central Division title." The final score was 28-23, when Tommy Kramer found Ahmad Rashad from 46-yards out. Ahmad Rashad had two TD's in that game. At halftime from the second game of a televised double header, NBC NFL 🏈 Live 80, Bryant Gumbel, played the clip for the viewers as Charlie Jones and Len Dawson were elated on the miraculous finish.
I watched this game as a 10 year old boy viking fan, A Rashad was my hero...i jumped and screamed too. I even have the sports page from 1980 of this catch....its a great memory.
The dig at the Patriots had me laughing way too hard. I was not expecting such a great line! I grew up in the 80s in Minnesota and although never made it to the Met for football I did get to see a few North Star games next door at the met center. After the MOA was built it was always super cool to be able to stand at home plate and look over camp snoopy (that's how I will always remember it at least) and imagine the field.
What a FANTASTIC video!! Two of the most charismatic players in NFL history. It's why both have been soooo successful talking into cameras after their great playing careers. Rashad one of my all-time favorite Vikings and Manning is probably my absolute favorite non-Viking player ever.
It feels like it's been forever since we seen Rashad in something. Growing up he was everywhere to a point I assumed he was an NBA player before I looked him up and realized he was a Viking.
Fun fact Ahmad Rashad played for the 76''ers against the Timberwolves in the first pre season game ever at Target Center . I suppose the one thing Ahmad Rashad wouldn’t want to reenact is his wedding to Phylicia Ayers Allen. The wedding party included Bill Cosby and OJ Simpson.
My uncle's grew up in rural Minnesota... I remember watching games with them and feeling bad the Vikings were always behind... they said "wait til after half time Tommy is just sobering up for the 4th quarter"

That was cool that you recreated that play and gave the hometown team some love. When I visited Mall of America, I was envisioning Staubach’s Hail Mary to Pearson.
The old Met was the venue for another legendary pass play. The game winning Hail Mary pass from Staubach to Pearson in the 1975 playoffs. Or to disgruntled Vikings fans, the Push Off play.
While they were there they should have brought in Roger Staubach and Drew Pearson to reenact the original Hail Mary pass. Granted, that would not have gone over well with the locals.
hold up... is this the same place where the main character of mighty ducks and that one bash brother (or whatever they were called) went to after they got kicked of the team in the 3rd movie? kinda looks the same...
Was the other qb Brian Sipe for Cleveland? I used to really know all the players back in those days. I don’t hardly know anybody anymore. But look at how much fun it was then? All those people there in the weather. Nobody on phones. Players all padded up because they actually hit each other then. Different game. Different time. Both better.

Ahmad only had one ligament in his knee. Bud Grant said, "That's all he needs." Rashad was one of the best.
