    What is so very very sad is that a lot of those “celebs” in the vid are no longer with us 😨😰😰 it made Comic Relief a helluva lot of cash and gave Tony Christie a new fan base (he was such a good sport 👍🏻😃) Would love to see Peter Kay back on the tellybox or doing “something” - he is just such a naturally funny person - without having to try very hard - he just IS funny ….although I have seen that video a million times, it never fails to make me smile - and Little Ron, falling off the running machine WAS an accident, not scripted! Hence Michael Parkinson turning around looking as if to say “what the heck you doing down there?” So, of course, it had to be kept in and the first time the clip was shown on tv on CR we ALL laughed at poor old Ronnie Corbett hitting the deck! 😂😂

    So many well known U.K. celebs there. So many of them gone now. Poor Ronnie C really hurt himself when he took that tumble - apparently he ripped a hole in his leg and bled badly. It took ages to heal. The story I heard was the Peter Kay phoned up Ronnie C to make sure he was ok and Ronnie C insisted they keep that bit in because he knew it would get a laugh.
    Peter Kay organised a few of these celebrity musical numbers for charity telethons. My favourite was his Animated All Stars video. He played an animated character called Big Chris for a kids TV show so he did a video where Big Chris organised a sing-a-long with other animated kids TV characters from shows going back for decades. It was brilliant. He even got Ringo Star to voice Thomas The Tank Engine, which he hadn’t done since the 80s. It took years to put together mainly because of negotiating the legal rights for all these shows, which is a task that Kay really got stuck into. I heartily recommend it, although many of the TV characters are very British and may be unfamiliar to you.

    In Glasgow they would dance, The Slosh, to that song,
    you can look it up or wait for Jack and Victor to show you

    Peter used to play Amarillo before his comedy gigs to help warm the crowd up. Then he featured it in Phoenix Nights in a scene with Max and Paddy singing along as they drive a mini-bus full of bewildered pensioners from the Indian/Asian community. That's singer Tony Christie who appears in the same suit as Kay.

    Tony Christie was a big deal when I was a kid in the early 70s. A local lad made good. Went to see him a few rimes with my parents in The Wakefield Theatre Club and The Batley Variety Club. He even did the theme tune to a Gerry Anderson TV show with Robert Vaughan with a song called In The Avenues and Alleyways - a song I still love. He still had a great voice when he came back for this remake.

    The two actors at the start of the clip were veteran actors who have been on “Coronation Street” for decades. William Roache has been in it ever since the first episode in 1960, and is still going strong aged 90.

    I love this song. This was a charity version, Peter Kay miming to a 1970s Tony Christie hit. Tony Christie is the other one in the purple suit. Ronnie Corbett falling over was not scripted.

  • @johnloony68
    @johnloony68 2 года назад +2

    Needless to say, all the people are (or were) famous actors, entertainers and TV personalities. The green duck (Keith Harris & Orville) and the ostrich (Bernie Clifton) were both very popular characters in the 1980s.

  • @thisiszaphod
    @thisiszaphod 2 года назад +1

    For the uninitiated - Tony Christie is a popular English power singer, here, from the school of Tom Jones - contemporaries from the same mold, as it were, but, for some reason, without the success. The song was written and released by Neil Sedaka, whose version paled into insignificance cf, Tony's very popular version in the UK - IIRC, it was released around 50 years ago.
    It was revived by Peter in a way - he would encourage an audience singalong of it as part of his warm-up, which led to this charitable release and music video, raising funds for comic relief, as part of their regular, to this day, telethons. You could hardly go anywhere, it seemed, without hearing this at the time. It was number 1 for about TWO months in the charts.

    Raised a lot of money for Children in Need . Most of the people from British tv shows you might not recognise but to see Brian May and Roger Taylor must have raised your spirits. Ronnie Corbett commented later that he fell off the conveyer belt! 👍😂🐿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    The man at 2:11 (opposite Mr Blobby) is the veteran comedian Jim Bowen. In the 1980s he hosted a long-running game show called “Bullseye”. Interesting historical fact: serial killer John Cooper was a contestant on the show. Footage from the episode in which he appeared was vital evidence in proving what his appearance and hairstyle looked like at the time of the murders, and was a key part of the evidence which led to his convictions for 4 murders. They had to trawl through videotapes of hundreds of episodes in the archives of Yorkshire Television in order to find it.

      I wonder how many criminals
      appeared on game shows and if we can see them.
      Obviously Charles Ingram became a criminal on WWTBAM, but this Bullseye fact is new to me.

      @@rwlynch3468 they broadcast a drama about this case last year on ITV, starring Luke Evans (of The Hobbit and Beauty and the Best fame) as the lead police officer and Keith Allen as John Cooper. It might be of interest if it's on the ITV Hub/Britbox or repeated at some point. I believe it was called The Pembrokeshire Murders.

    If you'd like the opposite of this try Sting's song ''What Have We Got?'' Real working class men. Or another updated version of an old song - Disturbed doing ''Sound of Silence''. Perhaps play the old and new 'Silence' back to back with the original to show the different world we're living in now.
