- Hey all! In this video we talk about PlayStation 3 Emulation on Android. At this point in time, there is no legitimate working PS3 Emulator for Android devices. Hopefully we'll see a change in the near future, but realistically it will be a ways off. (I hope I'm wrong!)

This is crazy, with each day that passes by emulation keeps improving so much. I remember setting up Nemu64 back in the day.
I remembered emulating nds in my phone was one of the biggest thing I felt
I remember getting hen (a picture that gave the psp CFW) on the original psp and only playing nes from my childhood in the 90's (grew up poor) now my phone can run (somewhat) ps2 games 😭 its a beautiful thinh

My phone would probably blow up trying to run a ps3 emulator 😭

There was a post last year on r/emulation of a upcoming PS3 emulator for Android that would go open source in march of that year, it never happened. It was named "Trampoline" and the 'dev' even showed a screenshot of it getting to the Health warning screen. Don't know what happen to that project, I think it was a troll post as they deleted the post. What a let down.
Never believed it for a second. Even PS2 emulation has a long way to go.

Awesome video! Love how straightforward your videos are!
AetherSX2 is pretty good and really gives me a great enjoyment for someone who spent his childhood on ps2 and bring back many memories and for now i tried many games like yakuza 2, shadow of the colossus which are big games in space but it still worked perfectly despite the lag sometimes so no matter how it takee i hope they make a ps3 emulator
i use aethersx2 and i love games like yakuza can you pls recommend me games similar to it
Aethersx2 is extremely good it is built on pcsx2
@@clyderallos3624 sry for not responding so earlier well there's many good games that I didn't play myself but for the best one I played i'll say, bully, barnyard, berserk, shadow of the colossus and way of the samurai 2

New subscriber here, great video, concise overall perspective. And it's not just a brute force hardware issue, even with a more powerful phone, emulating the PS3 properly involves emulating the SPUs which are extremely fast special purpose single cores processors that are highly customizable and thus vary in usage from game to game making their functions hard to pin down, and on top of that they need to be properly synced or the game is just broken. Pretty much all of that would need to be reworked for android, especially the way that most android SOCs are made with a big/little design for efficiency, that wouldn't play well at all if you're trying to run SPU code in the background on an overloaded weaker efficiency core.
In terms of power, a modern smartphone demolishes ps3 in every way imaginable. In general CPU tasks the phone nukes the ps3. What extra power the cell gives with it's spu's a phones gpu can do better. But yeah thanks to cells weird spu system I don't see ps3 emulation being possible on mobile until the elation itself gets figured out
Watching this 6 months later and aether has improved by leaps and bounds, our mans Tahlreth been putting in some work for sure. I'm sure one day we'll see ps3 emulation on Android but it will definitely be quite a while before we do. We're only just starting to see some games be playable on PCs that aren't top of the line and with the ps3s cell processor who knows how difficult it'd be to configure on Android. I'm surprised I don't see more people asking about og Xbox or Vita emulation on Android which personally I'd love to see and are probably much more feasible than ps3. Honestly I feel that we'll probably even see 360 on Android before we do ps3 given it's less complicated architecture
I dont watch all of your vids but this made me hella interested
Thanks for watching!
Given the complexity of the PS3 (& Xbox 360) architecture + the game size, PS3 emulation on smartphones is a definite unlikely. Streaming RPCS3 from PC to phone via app is probably the only way to do so although it definitely defeats the purpose of portability.
It will indeed happen ,maybe not now but definitely in 2030 if not in 2050....people said the same that PS2 won't be emulated on phones but here we are
It'll happen... In 2040 😆
architecture is definitely a problem and makes it complicated and as for size . mobiles have and support microsd cards with 1 tb space. i don't see a problem with game size
Android are stronger then PS3 it can run PS4 and PC games like genshin and fornite granted it was optimized. But it's still a big feat and Android already has games which has higher graphics game then PS3.

Mr Sujan. It's nice to see a fellow who has taken the pledge.
Thanks for keeping me up with these good news
Update on Aesther. It's currently the best imo. There used to be an known issue and workaround to play ace combat 5 because of something to do with the way textures loading in. They fixed it and it can be leggy sometimes ,but overall the experience is there. 10/10
Can it run ps3 games
Hello Capt. How can i add games in Aesthet ??
I agree with everything you said, that's why I'm curious about how Damon team is gonna pull something like a PS3 emulator for Android
I'm happy enough playing PS2 on my android now. I hope when PS3 comes to android I have a better phone in the future.
Ya gonna need a 9 series chip to play ps3 tho
or just buy a used Ps3 for dirt cheap price
I'm just a bit pissed off how we go from ps1 for the past 12 years to the whole roulette in a couple of months with Dolphin being the exception
We went through NES to Wii/3DS in the span of 5 years
I play the ps2 emulation almost weekly and i love it. The rpcs3, especially with the NCAA Football craze, is just a headache to run on my pc. The upgrades I would have to make to my pc compared to my desire to join in on reddit discussions about my new QB, just ain't worth it to me.

I didn't know but AetherSX2 is partialy based on PCSX2, I read it on this last one's website. That explains why the texture glitch on Call of Duty 3 is the same on both emulators.
It literally says SX2 in the AetherSX2, how are you learning this now?

Since RPCS3 is an open source emulator on PC maybe someone might try to make a PS3 emulator on Android but I doubt that it will be any close to being "good" but you never know, it may not emulate heavy games such as The Last Of Us or GTA but perhaps it could be able to somewhat handle some non graphically demanding 2D games I just hope to see something come out of RPCS3's source and hopefully it won't be stolen

My name point here is that innovation will bring about change. And that it's not entirely too fair to judge it so early. After all, there's been a lot of progress made overall. And we are only just now getting started, especially with AI technology that will easily fill in the gaps
@@umamifan can't say I disagree

theirs a ps3 game called initial d extreme stage for ps3 and i would use any working ps3 emulator just for that game alone
I think it is possible, it's just that besides hardware there's just a few important stuff preventing anyone from starting development. I think I read somewhere about few who tried it, but were forced to back out after certain conflicts...

Once PS3 emulation is flawless on mobile devices my life will be clomplete.
Don't expect a flawless one anytime soon.
@@youdontneedtoknow5688 I'm not for Android, but hopefully handheld PCs will be powerful enough soon.
The problem is that a completely different architecture has to be emulated, which requires a multiple of the performance required to originally run the games
I want a PS3 emulator in android but all of them are fake application
I really want to know when will Xbox Classic android emulators get good enough to run games as well as Dolphin or Aether do. I would love to play JSRF on my phone
So PS1 games come in the range of 200-500 megabytes. PS2 games come in the range of 1-4 gigabytes. PS3 games come in the range of 10-40 gigabytes. The average app size is that of the average PS3 game so I see no reason why a smartphone couldn't run a PS3 game.
Emulation really is the future of the past
Can you revisit this topic? 2023 🙃

Hello brother, do not be tired, I hope you are well. My brother, I downloaded everything he said, but I could not play with my phone
I have s20fe and sometimes my phone lag on ps2 emulators
I think that were not to far away from an ok working PS3 emulator but I doubt we'll have a great or excellent one, people never seem to remember that the biggest issue and main reason Sony rushed to finish the PS4 was the PS3 had a really complex coding and security coding that was driving game makers mad, mixed with the fact that the internet OS was based on the same basic starting point that Opera, Chrome, Firefox, Mozilla and pretty much everyone one else but Sony left lots of pieces out of their OS build making it have issues talking to other sites, that bring said I found that PPSSPP's Gold Edition works great in some cases running PS2 games, PSP games and PS Vita games, now Some PSP and Poo S Vita games were essentially dumbed down PS3 games and we're playable on PS3, and if your following the PS4 emulator movement and the Hacks movement then you probably already know that they have no cracked the code enough to have a working stable XMB dashboard which is the biggest problem their having with a true working PS3 emulator, it's mostly systems security coding that's stopping the PS3 xmb to work properly, saved games won't load, games crash when loading and it's all in the hand off from xmb to game and back again, so I see the PS4 movement surpassing the PS3's emulator development, the PS4's coding has been easier to crack and data mine, the fact that they have gotten a stable dashboard means they are alot further along the the PS3 and I bet it's the hand off from dashboard to whatever that's the issue and cracking that will open the PS4 emulator doors, I think the people who worked on the PPSSPP project should sit down with the people working on the PS4 emulator and even the ones working in the PS3 emulator and trade some secrets, each seem to have what the other needs, the PPSSPP emulator hands off nicely 97% of the time so I think they have some codes the others need, vise versa they need a cleaner module set up and I think the others have parts and bits of it, only time will tell but I wouldn't hold my breath on the PS3 dropping before PS4's just due to the complications everyone from audio, software, gaming, hardware and everything else had making working compatible, playable products for it.
Such a big comment
Aethersx has come a long way as far as being user friendly. It use to be you really had to know the ins and out of emulators to get it to work well. Now it just auto configues pretty well and you can make tweaks as you like.
AetherSX2 is not working with my PS4 controller after the last 2 updates, do you know how to fix that or any tips you can share with me
Don't even think about...
Most PC's can't even handle it
I remember in 2011 i got a sony Erickson play. It could run emus for nes snes and n64 perfectly after rooting it. God i miss that phone lol.

Yes If powerful gaming pcs is having trouble then phones which are way weaker doesn't stand a chance plus other issues android phones would run into like big file sizes, huge battery drain, and overheating
Bruh any phone that has snapdragon 855 or more powerful chipset are already much more powerful than ps3 or xbox360.
We just can't play these console games because of software issues, we do not have hardware issues.
Think about it, call of duty mobile, fortnite mobile, genshin impact, etc. runs on max settings at 1080p90fps without lag on modern mobile gaming phones while ps3 and xbox360 ran all of their games at 720p30fps with lag.
@mad5161, you kidding right? even a old pc gpu like Gtx 750ti beats today's flagship smartphones
My phone can run ps2 games quite well. Some spots drop on fps. I think within the next 5 years we will have phones that are capable of running ps3/4 games

I hope ps3 emulation will happen on android
Same! We'll probably have to wait a little bit, but it'll get here.
maybe if the devs of RPCS3 somehow knows how to port their emulator to android then maybe we'll get somewhere
Aesther is based on the same code as PCSX2, the developer has an agreement with the team of PCSX2 to just make the same emulator just for Android, which is why it's so good, since PCSX2 has been in development for like 15 years.
So basically, egg ns, but they actually asked?

Hey, Mr. Sujano. This is actually a pretty interesting topic.. and I've been asking myself for a long time now: Is it really that easy to get a Google Play license to upload a non-functional app on there and get a shit ton of ad-money without providing the promised results? Same lol
Just curious. Do you think your phone can run high graphical ps3 games in a stable 30 fps without any problem?
Like for example killzone 3? Uncharted 3? The last of us 1? And God of war 3?
You're right man. My friend has a i9 9900k gtx 1080ti and 16GB RAM. it's a good enough PC and he can't get stable 30 in some games and some games have glitches despite the good framrate.
Phones aren't powerful enough RN. I think a lot of it has to do with the structure of android phones too. That's the reason a very powerful android is needed to run aether sx2.
Tell your friend to use "Lossless Scaling" it's in steam. This scales lower res up. If you game at 720p 60fps. You can scale up to 1080p 60fps. You save GPU power doing this. Also the app has built in API. This is like dx12 or Vulkan. Don't know which one it's using but it's great. Less GPU power the better. If you game at 1080p 60fps. You can scale up to 4k 60fps saving GPU power.
But when we will have a ps3 emulator and at least as good as aethersx2, imagine that we can play gta v, far cry 4, fifa 19, the last of us, gran turismo 6, on the go! it will be very nice, but for now, we are farrrrr from it.
I am here because I would love to play Demon's Souls on my S23 FE. But for now, streaming from the PC will do.
So why switch emulation is a thing on android but older less powerful systems like wiiu/Xbox360 are not?
Ok PS3s CPU is something hard to emulate, this is why RDR on xenia gets full speed and on rpcs3 gets 15 fps on my laptop so maybe Xbox 360 emulator would be the best on android.
Pcsx2 considers playable just by being playable to the end regardless of performance, including horrible unplayable performance
A lot of rpcs3 games under in-game just because they can't run on quad core CPUs but can be finished

nah it ain't, even if it is there ain't enough demand for it. considering most vita games are now on aethersx2 (like p4, ffx, ffx2, odin sphere, gow1, gow2) the chance is almost 0.
