    Long-range foxer Mark '260rips' Ripley has a rather shorter-range engagement to tackle… Foxes have invaded his garden, and they are posing all sorts of health risks and dangers. They need to go, and Mark needs to devise a cunning plan to get them in the right spot for a safe and ethical shot with the .22. Which, when you're in a garden, is easier said than done…

    Well laid out video guys. You could feel the frustration as the fox kept moving and ultimately, the relief and satisfaction when he was nailed with the 22. Excellent video. Top shot! 👍😁

    Like your pesting style, I use the same method and with patience works great. Here in the U.S. I have found CCI 960 .22 lr quiets 40 gr segmented, they crony 730 fps = 40 fpe . Very quiet 68 db and accurate to 30 yds. Thanks for the video.

    Thanks for going to so much trouble Mark so we could see the job being done! I find it very interesting your brand of ammo, I bought a bulk pack of those with my CZ 455 but I couldn't get them to group, I spoke to a friend who shoots bench rest and he took me to the range at our gunshop, Tom Glass Guns, we did a test and iam now on Eley Subs with great results, could the 455 with varmint barrel be that much different from 452 as you obviously are happy with Winchester. Great to get another Video Mark, I hope you have a very Happy Christmas.

      I guess every rifle favours different Ammo, maybe the harmonics of that profile barrel are better suited to other brands? Thanks for watching 👍

    Job done again. I use the CCI segmented subsonics for my garden fox control, and the segmented quiets in built up areas, but their accuracy past 40 yards can be quite poor☹️.

    Very good vid & pains taken to ensure safety , however anyone shooting a vermin in their yard can use a regular 22 & 36 grain , regular hollow points as they are fast & they will come apart on impact . If you are shooting from inside your house toward a bait station , just open the window about 6 in , or so , & stay back about 6 ft ! WEAR head phones , as the muzzle blast will be contained in the house !
    If you are like most of us & don’t have a night scope , install a night yard light -led- cheap to run , your vermin will get used to it quickly, & no one will be the wiser, except you !!

    • @260rips
      @260rips 4 года назад

      Yes the idea with the light on a pir is a good one - I have considered it!
      I stuck with the subsonic Ammo as it’s very quiet and wouldn’t bother anyone inside the house or the neighbours 👍

    Hi Mark, again a great video. Glad to see you again shooting show.
    Question: What do you use to clean your rifles barrels in general - copper remover, carbon remover? And how often to you using what? Special on .223 Rem etc
    regards form Switzerland

    Brilliant that answers my questions will my CZ 452 using my round of choice Remington 42 grain subsonic take down a fox, hit in the right place and at a reasonable distance it will. Thanks.

      I'm assuming your gun is a. 22 rimfire. It's not really meant for shooting foxes yes iv used my Ruger 10/22 with Winchester sub sonics to dispatch foxes in traps or close range coup de grace. You are mutch better using centerfire rifles ie. 222 or. 243 Winchester much better suited to the job. Hope this helps. Regards Tony

      Neil, .22lr and subs are Absolutely fine for fox out to 70 or so yards if you stick to headshots, my 452 .22lr has had many foxes with no issues at all. Not an ideal calibre for fox but it's a superb tool for close range work, especially if muzzle report is an issue.

      They do cause just as big of a problem when it comes to children. I couldn't let my children play in the garden of my last house as it was used as a litter tray for neighbours cats. That shit can make your kids go blind.

    I don't know about you mate but the first thing I always think about when using a .22 in an urban environment is legality. It'll get you arrested in NZ and you'll lose your license. :)

    can I ask what health risks and danger foxes bring?

    • @260rips
      @260rips 5 лет назад +1

      Toxocariasis can be caught from contact with fox droppings (or scats) which children can be most at risk. In serious cases this can cause severe symptoms including permanent loss of vision.
      In urban areas foxes can quickly loose their fear of humans and there has been several cases of adults and children bitten by foxes in gardens and even homes.
      Foxes can also prey on small pets as well as digging your garden and also pinching small objects for their cubs to play with as toys!

    Hi my local F A O said he wouldn't grant me my fac if i used it on foxes at close range with a 22 rime fire?

    • @260rips
      @260rips 5 лет назад +2

      There is no law to say you cannot shoot a fox with a 22.
      I suggest you speak to your local firearms department and relay this to them if it’s something you need to do.

      Almost extinct??!!!! Urban fox numbers have quadrupled in the past 20 years!!!
      The car is the biggest predator of the fox not shooting them.

    • @SiAnon

      Using a certificated firearm in an urban garden is actually a big deal and one tiny mistake could land you in prison.

      The idea of the video was to illustrate how to do it safely, legally and the most suitable gear to use which maybe obvious to experienced shooters but to other less experienced it does no harm to cover all bases
