Was strange that you recorded the parts out of time with the high hat i don't know how you did that without getting confused also with a pause at the end of each loop but its not all about the playing, its about getting to grips with this thing and its helped a lot, it didn't affect the review. Thanks very much for your help!
Steve Killingback Music it does quantise your audio so if you’re out of time it corrects you
@@MattCrawley_Music does the RC-3 do the same quantise as i am undecided as a beginner learning guitar which to get as my first looper, thanks
At first I didn't think much of those basic drumming beats. But now having read a book on percussion, I use them as a foundation and build interesting beats in many genres. Probably that's what they were originally meant for. I'm still an apprentice looper.
By far the EASIEST BEST and COMPREHENSIVE review on YOU TUBE
Highly recommended for any new starter or anyone who wishes to have more a bit more understanding of the pedal
Definitely recommend getting the FS6 add on pedal for channel/ track selection. Just make sure you use a TRS cable to connect it to the RC30 not a standard TS cable or it won't work as intended.
(Just found out it also works as a channel select switch for most amps)
Nice comprehensive easy to follow tutorial on a complicated piece of equipment. Thank you
Thank you for the time and effort you have put into this video. Really clear and concise review :-)
Thanks for the feedback!
very simple and helpful introduction. Thanks a lot, this really was my point of entry!
Glad to see someone finally spoke about how lame the effects are; yes, it would have been great to have had standard effects [chorus, delay, reverb, distortion....] like all the good pedals Boss makes. A real glaring fault of this otherwise very good loop pedal.
It’s a head scratcher why they chose those specific effects eh?
I would have preferred a ‘simple’ reverse effect and eliminate the other 4-effects
Picked up a mint one today. It is too simple for what I want it to do but great sound quality and compact
will it do verse chorus
Thank you.
The Looper - good video!
Hi, is there a way to start/stop the rhythm guide with a (external) pedal ?
How much storage space does the pedal have on board?
Hi Reid, thank you so much for making this video, great instructions to get started with this looper. This is helping me to make a decision to buy it or not. I will probably get it since I don't see that many other pedals that support both voice and guitar. Keep up with your great reviews. Regards!
i have this and jamman stereo jamman is far easier tu use
Great review, thanks!
All my loop playbacks are so loud, I cant use it. Even the factory loops. I can only move either slide up to hearing level, then if I go past that at all, it blows me outta the house. How can I fix this? Probably something simple.
Can you loop vocals on the RC-30?
yes
Would you prefer it over the jamman solo xt?
If you have the tempo on will your loops automatically sync to that tempo?
Yes it will auto quantize (i.e. sync) your track.
Very good Video, can we connect headphones to any of the outputs?, Thanks in advance
Hi can you help me out pleas.
When I connect my instrument to the rc 30 my Amp is making a buzzing sound.
without the rc30 no buzzing at all.
thank you.
Try changing the power supply. Make sure it has sufficient amps to power the pedal.
Good review
On my RC-30, the playback volume is ridiculously high compared to the thru signal, so that I must keep my volume sliders at about the second hash-mark; if I move them even slightly from their ideal position, the playback volume becomes radically high or radically low. Do you have this problem, and if so do you know of a solution? I looked thru the manual to see if maybe there was a master-volume knob somewhere, but cannot find any such thing. What I want to do is dramatically reduce the playback volume, so the I can have more dynamic range in my sliders. Thanks!!
Weird, I have not had that problem . You might want to try and update the firmware on it. I'm not sure if there is an upgrade for you to install, but if there is it might help.
I am asking for help. I am 58 and not computer literate. Would you please make a quick video showing how to add wave files from a computer to the RC-30? If possible how to add Stereo wave files to the RC-30?
I apologize, I no longer have thos pedal, so I can't do an additional video on it right now. I did find this detailed, helpful guide though: www.boss.info/us/community/boss_users_group/1328/
Trying this pedal on a 6505 the Automatic setting to start recording doesn't seem to detect the signal to start recording. It works on Count in and straight recording, but not on AU. I tried reducing noise on the chain of pedals and using a noise gate. Also plugging on normal as opposed to high gain. Nothing. Not the end of the world but I wondered if that can be sorted.
That's frustrating. What do you have between the guitar and the looper? Any additional affects? Is your guitar volume knob maxed?
@@ReidsReviews Yeah all volumes were maxed. didn't think of that. Running on the head's loop I had a super chorus and a delay. there were other pedals on the chain, but not in use. An overdrive and a graphic equaliser. the decimator was placed after the overdrive. for some reason the rec light keeps flickering but wouldn't start recording once I play the arpeggio. Odd.
It stands for unsupported file.... does the file still import and work? If not there may be some tags included in the file that are causing it not to be recognized. Try converting it to another file type then reconverting it to wav before importing again to see if it goes away.
Nice and in-depth
Hi Everyone! I am new to looping, but I am not wanting to use a looper in the way most use it today and need some advice/insights. I play with a band, and want to be able to pre-record parts for like harmony solos, intros that I can play lead over, like most 80s Metal, and then store them to a bank and call them up as needed. Does this pedal do that? An example would be, pre-record An Adrian Smith solo part, and save it to bank one, then, while playing live, pull up bank one, and harmonize the Dave Murray part... does this pedal do that?
I think the pedal could serve that purpose. You can store up to 99 phrases... that you can call up on demand. The total record time across all phrases is 3 hours.
Reid's Reviews I bet the 300 would be overkil?
Probably...You may even want to consider the rc3. I think it would suit your need. I have a review for it if you want to check it out ruclips.net/video/agLIozGVqQM/видео.html
I have a boss rc-30 as well. Is it me or does the playback recording sound less clear than when you play something live. Idk if im doing something wrong? Or maybe i just have picky ears.
Thanks for the comment. I haven't noticed any unusual degradation.
Hi there, thank you for a very helpful review!! I am a vocalist, and have a couple of questions.
1: So basically, if you want to be able to switch on and off different choruses and instruments during a song, do you need more pedals then? It seems there are "only" two tracks pr. song to switch between? (If you have different choruses, different intruments throughout a song you want to be able to turn on/off).
2: And then - how do one operate the little switches / buttons, when performing live? I know it´s a pedal, but how do you "hit" the small buttons with the foot, not having to bend down all the time? I know you can switch between track 1 or 2 during the song using the pedals, but what if you want to use some of the effecs and other stuff?
I hope it makes sence :D Thank you
In order to bring in different song segments, you would switch between storage slots (you can record 99 seperate song parts and switch between them). If you want to bring in additional instruments on an existing song part, you could record onto (over dub) one or both of the two existing tracks, but the instruments would be combined then with the base tracks. The RC300 as well as other loopers can record 3 different tracks (here's a review I made for the rc300 ruclips.net/video/czM-Bf8JTJg/видео.html ), but to do more you would need to have multiple looper pedals synced together.
With regards to your second question. Some things can be switched from external foot switches (check out page 16 of the official manual) Some companies also make buttons to sit on top of the smaller buttons to make it easier to switch them with your feet.
@@ReidsReviews Hi Reid, thank you so much for taking the time to answer! It was really helpful. Now I get, that it´s possible to shift between the storage slots during a song.. I thought you had to stop it while changing, but it just changes after the loop is done..
And I didn´t know about the buttons! Cool.
Hey check out the boss sy-1 synth and let us know what you think. Thanks
Looks interesting... I'll add it to my list. Thanks.
Something i dont see on reviews or device info..how long of a track can you record at one time?can i play a written peices full rhythm section?say 4 minutes.then overdub the rest of the sections as leads, bass, electric drums?
I found this on the bottom of page 9 of the manual:
"The maximum recording time for a loop phrase is approximately 3 hours (total for all phrases)."
@@ReidsReviews thanks for the response!just doing some homework before i purchase my 1st loop station.had an old digitech back in the day.it would only record up to a 10 or 15 second phrase.was a little purple stomp box.havent messed with looping since.just gonna start building my 1st simple home studio.how is the interface with p.c. ?or have you tried that yet?
I record my reviews through a pc using a usb audio interface to connect the pedal through a usb port on my PC. Seems to work fairly well.
How do you play over the top of something you have recorded, without it recording?
Checkout page 17 of the manual. Specifically the section entitled:
"Changing the Switching Order of Recording - Overdubbing - Playback"
Hopefully this helps answer your question.
@@ReidsReviews hey man, thanks for the reply. I actually found another RUclips video last night which just explained that specific part so I'm sorted now. Nevertheless great video my friend!
When arming it to record in auto mode is there any way to adjust the threshold of the record trigger level, or at the very least is there any way of knowing what the default threshold is so that you know how much ambient volume you can get away without triggering it to record? Tia
I'm not aware of anything you can do to change the sensitivity of the auto record feature. However, the more noise you can reduce going into the pedal (e.g. reducing cable lengths, reducing noise from other pedals... etc) the better the auto record feature will most likely work. My 2 cents....
The biggest problem with the RC-30 is that there's no sequential/serial mode, so that you could do a verse and a chorus separately. The new RC-10R has it ... kind of, but it's a bit half-baked, because track 1 (verse) and track 2 (chorus) must have _exactly_ the same measure lengths, or otherwise the pedal will add silence. So you can't use it without being a slave to the drum machine, or setting track 2 to "one-shot" mode, but even then it's not even close to being perfect. I think I should have bought something else instead.
Maybe chorus- verse could work with the fs6 ?
Just a thought… haven’t tried
How do I activate / deactivate both tracks together at the same time. It seems its only possible to turn on / of either of them one after another. That's frustrating!
I agree, with regards to starting both at the same time it took me a bit of digging. Check out the video at 9:23, I put in some text in the video to explain this.
Loved your video, man!! Could you please solve doubt for me? I haven’t found any help anywhere else. I want to know please if it’s possible with the RC-30 to record a loop but don’t play it back immediately. Example of what I mean/want.
My song starts with a chord progression which happens to be the same as the bridge chord progression. I’d love to record the loop while I play the intro, but when the intro ends a whole different chord progression starts, that’s why I don’t want the loop to start right away. I was wondering if I can record the loop and finish the loop with the stop button so it won’t playback. And I could play it when I need it at the bridge. I hope this makes sense haha I don’t know where else to go for help. Thanks a lot!!
I currently do not have this pedal, but you might want to try double pushing on the stop switch or even triple pushing on the stop switch (the tripple push is how the rc-3 works. To get an idea of what I'm talking about check out the beginning of this rc-3 clip ruclips.net/video/agLIozGVqQM/видео.html )
@@ReidsReviews ok, I see. That's exactly what I need. I wonder if the RC-30 needs a triple push sincje it has 2 footswitches. Thanks a lot for your help, man! Awesome videos!!!
does it work with steel string?
Should work with any instrument that can output to a quarter inch jack.
@@ReidsReviews thank you very much
Is this better than rc3? For the ability to jump to different parts
I'd say yes, because of the dedicated footswitch for each track.
How many sections can you loop at the same time?
It has two tracks so those can be played individually or combined. Each track can have as many overdubs on it as you like. The pedal only stores the latest overdub for a track in memory; all other overdubs get combined with the original recording. With regards to the 99 memory slots. Those cannot be combined. Hope this helps.
@@ReidsReviews it really helped, thank you so much!
I also have the RC-30. The tracks are in "synced-mode" only, and cannot be used in a "verse-chorus" manner as in other looper devices (Ditto X4, Infinity, 22500, etc.). So, in order to play songs easily with two (or more) sections using the RC-30 in a live situation, you need the FS-6 or FS-7 external footswitch, creativity and some tricks. I frequently use the Track 1 as the rhythmic foundation of the song (beatboxing, drums, percussion and/or bass, because the built-in rhythms are pretty lame, IMHO) and the Track 2 as the harmony for the chorus part (usually, the most loud and dense part of a song).
Hope it helps and keep on looping!
Can i use two instruments at the same time with this pedal?
There is an xlr input on the back that is designed for vocals, but you could hijack it for use with another instrument, I suppose, with the right adapter. The easiest way two use two instruments would be to place the looper after a mixer.
There's two mono inputs, an aux input and an axle so theoretically you can have 4 simultaneous inputs
i saw another video that keyboard and guitar were at the same time looping.BUT
my question is, can i change the track1or2 input easily to the microphone ? cause i am inA situtation that i want to improvise vocals, guitar and keyboard as well
Yes, the RC-30 have "dual-mono" ins/outs, so you can safely plug-in a guitar and a bass, and routing them to their respective amps. Of course, if you save the loop, the instruments will be recorded as panned hard-left and hard-right, respectively.
@@steliosJF All the 4 inputs can work at the same time. If you want to prevent unwanted mic leakage while you're improvising, make sure your mic has a on/off switch, or directly use the mic volume knob on the RC-30 to active/mute it.

Hi mate I have a loop station rc 30 that keeps freezing I've read online that if I update it to the latest version it will fix the problem but can't find a video anywhere showing how to do it and was just wondering if you knew how to do it.
I had a similar issue and just used the update instructions on boss' site. www.boss.info/global/support/by_product/rc-30/updates_drivers/9f4c39a4-ce22-40e8-806f-dd9f908962e0/
This is amazing the best review ever
Great video.. Can you help fix the flashing lights problem on my RC 30, please?
Have you tried updating the firmware? If not, give it a shot. www.boss.info/global/support/by_product/rc-30/updates_drivers/9f4c39a4-ce22-40e8-806f-dd9f908962e0/
Ditto X4 = 5 minutes recording time, 1 bank storage. It's a toy.
RC30 is a workhorse.
If you're calling the Ditto a toy you have no idea what you're talking about. Sure it's less complicated than other loopers but for some guitar players that's all they need. In fact the simplicity is one of the best features about it. Some people don't want or need a gazillion hours of recording time and dozens of fancy features in a looper pedal. They want something simple they can sit down with and start playing right away, especially if they have an idea in their head and they want to quickly try it out before they lose the inspiration. For basic looping and practicing the Ditto is the best looper for guitar by far.
You have to have something recorded if you want the loop to end at the end of the measure doesnt make sense at all. You cant do that in a live situation. Unbelievable
