Very humbling and heartfelt words spoken from a true outdoorsman. Great self-reflection in which we could all learn to appreciate this space we all share. Our earthly home. Thanks for setting the example for us Shawn, just like Proenneke did all those years ago. Respect to you good sir 👏🏼

I enjoyed this video to the max! I have experienced that indescribable feeling. When I was younger, after my divorce in the early eighties, I went camping a lot. One of those memorable feelings happened when I awoke one morning and my van was surrounded by a huge herd of elk headed for the lake south of William's, AZ. I just sat there in silent awe. Then the biggest bull of the herd came out of the woods and stared at me for a long time. What a magnificent creature! He was in his prime, and buffed, with huge antlers! And every muscle rippled when he moved. Think my little dog sensed my feelings, she never made a sound either, just looked. One of my best memories.

Alaska, my homeland, and the homeland of my ancestors for thousands of years. There is no where else in the world I'd want to live. From the harshest weather to the sunniest day, it's all good. What you felt sitting on the mountain side looking at God's creation, I feel that everyday. Great job in putting together this awesome video. One day you'll be sitting back and reliving the experience. It was a pleasure seeing what I love from your eyes. I look forward to watching you work on your beautiful creation as well. Take care, God bless.

Sharon Kay Alaska is my home also. Four generations. People in the lower 48 talk about their mountains. They don’t have mountains, theirs are hills, we have mountains. Where do you live? I am in Anchorage now but raised in Fairbanks, way out on the Steese Hwy. Camai.

🌲🍁🌿I’ve just watched Dick Proenneke cabin alone in the wilderness after watching your video. So beautiful to see things haven’t changed and it looks as though he just popped out. It’s a shame technology back then couldn’t pick up the vibrant colours on film like we have today. The wildlife he saw and the trust they had in him hand feeding them is so beautiful. I’m glad you got to experience this first hand and your reaction to being there was lovely and you can treasure these memories forever.

I think that it is the feeling of returning to the world around us, not just being a spectator. What you are doing is trying to be part of the beauty we are surrounded by, and trusting yourself to be "self reliant". After spending all those years part of the corporate machine, you can return to being an individual. It is what I want to return to and eventually will once I've gotten a few more details worked out. We all have our vision of the perfect life, and I am glad to see you living yours!!! I think that is your channel's success.

Having seen many places that I had grown to love, in my rear view mirror - I had a lump in my throat and a bit of a tear in my eye, as I watched your departure from a place you spent a short time in physically, but spent years getting to know and prepare. For me, the last place I had to leave was supposed to be my forever home .... but life intervened and broke my spirit for all intent and purposes. You are a lucky man in many senses of the word, but I also realized that you fought hard and won over diversity and have come out of it even stronger. Be proud of what you've accomplished, for you have paved the road for your future and your family ...... I admire your ethics. I can only hope that I live long enough to experience some of my "bucket list". I will have to be happy with my dreams for now. Take care ... all the best for you and your family .... they are cut from the same stout stock.

This was a dream for you! I know the bittersweet departure of leaving. I know family and home is where we want to be so the experience is the momentum pleasure you carry with you! The beauty you capture is amazing but the beauty, the emotions, the pleasure of being is incredible and cant be captured to share, but only to make memories. Returning to loved ones after a experience like this sinks in that this is home and that was a magnificent experience!

Shawn, your photography and narration illustrate your admiration for Dick P & for his landscape as well as life's work. It is a fitting homage.

I can totally relate to what you says about being overwhelmed by the scenery, nature and the mountains. When i go to our mountains (that is not near as high as these in Alaska) i feel kind of the same thing. The solitude, the feeling of actually being at the mercy of the land. All small human in the realm of Mother Nature where she rules and decides your faith. Sarek and Padjelanta National park in my country makes you feel humble and in awe. Great video and videography as always.

Fantastic videos off your Alaska trip Shawn loved watching them, such a beautiful place. Congrats on a job well done, and look forward to the work in progress and plans you have for your own place. Like most I live and work in a city so it’s great to watch your adventure...you live the dream for me, that’s for sure.
