    What would be the best settings on a Win 11 PC for audio performance?

    I think this is overall still bad news... most people will not go below 512 samples for the buffer, and at that 512 range, win 11 performs WORSE than 10, right?

    I checked recently to see if "Pros' were getting on with 11.
    I asked those of my Windows using colleagues who had updated to 11 whether things had improved and they reported that they had gone back to 10 because of instabilities with their music software systems on 11.
    I shall continue to hold off until it is no longer possible to run Win10.
    If things with Win11 haven't stabilised by then then I'll be looking to a different platform.

    How many milliseconds are giving you different buffer sizes on your audio cards?
    Mine is Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 2nd gen and it’s giving me 15ms roundtrip latency @128 samples 44100 khz, which is a lot. Almost 100ms @ 1024 samples. That is under win7 and win11. 14700k cpu ddr5.
    My 20-years old M-Audio delta 2496 is twice as fast as milliseconds - 7ms @128smp. Unfortunately it’s PCI.

I got my new Alienware m18 AMD Ryzen9 with windows 11 2 weeks ago and I’ve been pulling my hair out re-installing Reaper and all the same plugins that I had on my windows 10 machine ever since. I’m supposed to drag plugins from the downloads folder to my User Plugins location in Reaper, and that’s where things are difficult. Videos on windows 11 specific to Reaper are extremely limited. Please help me understand the difference between DSP and virtual instrument tests. I understand that things like EQ, compression, delay and reverb will all be DSP. The Instrument test is how it handles memory hungry instruments such as Kontakt or spitfire / Vienna libraries. Dependent on the type of synthesis, this will be split between the two, probably heavier on the DSP side.

    • @gastonpossel
      @gastonpossel Год назад +3

      Latency is not usually an issue in Windows given you use your audio interface's driver or an ASIO low-latency driver, which should always be the case for recording and mixing. Many years ago I switched from a good ol' MBP mid2012 to Win10, using Cubase, and I don't miss anything from macOS.

      @@gastonpossel Great, thanks, got it. Academic curiosity only: Then where did Windows get this bad rap for latency.

    • @gastonpossel
      @gastonpossel Год назад +3

      @@accentontheoff Well, I believe this could be the answer: macOS' native audio driver is inherently less laggy than Windows' included controllers (such as Direct Sound, Windows Audio or some random Realtek driver that comes with the machine). These generic drivers have to deal with any PC chipset they're put in front of, so they can't be optimized to perfection (unlike mac drivers which are paired to specific internal hardware, hence optimized). If you use one of these generic drivers in Windows for a DAW, real-time VST FXs, MIDI instrument or similar audio-critical application, it will need a higher buffer size for stability, hence more latency. But as I said, any professional audio application should be used with the interface's driver, bypassing generic driver issues altogether.
