Why you don't look after your RUclips video 3 years ago... That 2020 video!! It sure will boost you up!! You achieved so much!! And are a such a positive and great person!
Love watching you two work together with such teamwork and respect. And..the detail! Painting something no one will ever see and scrubbing the cabinet floor behind the control panel. You have so much pride in your beautiful boat.
Thanks for the shout out guys! :D You will love the Rainman I'm sure! It's going to be such a huge improvement - so happy for you. I'm a little sad I didn't get a Rainman hat with mine ;)

Marvellous how you work together. I have a terrible time delegating any small job because of the mistakes other people make, which I'd rather make myself.

I was home with the Flu, this week, and decided to rewatch your journey. I just watched Ep3 and you discussed installing a water maker before a big passage. You also discussed installing a water gauge as "it would be easy" Love your vids guys
Hi folks, it’s good to hear from you again. I’ve been following a couple on a home-built gaff ketch for a while. They spent a year in the Gulf of California, and I really don’t think that they had a watermaker.
I would highly recommend a water maker, we have one and it is truly great, pure pure water. One thing I would say is that on your long trips keep your tanks as full as possible just in case your water maker breaks, we also carry emergency water in containers that can proved enough water for a couple of weeks at emergency rations. We have both an ac and dc water maker to give us redundancy, for us it is all about the what ifs. We also have a redundant sweet water pressure pump, it is no good having water without being able to get to it. Finally we have a UV filter just before our tap, it does take power but again reassuring.
That PVC coupling you screwed the water fill male adaptor into, is called a repair coupling. Nicely done! The removable Aluminum brackets for the deck hatch support. That is not strong enough, it is nowhere near, emulating pre cut strength. I would like to suggest, doubling the screws on the ends as a minimum till more aluminum can be purchased. Preferably replacing what you did with Aluminum as wide as the deck stringer you cut or doubling what's you just installed with more screws on the ends.
I randomly found your channel a week ago and just caught up with ALL your videos! Binged watched everything from the very start. Awesome channel and love the positive attitude. I know nothing about sailing at all, but I love these videos and your adventure , goodluck with what the future holds and I am looking forward to watching the weekly vids from here on forward. 😁
Great job, love the video's! Just a suggestion though... on the wood that was cut out for the water maker install, seal the ends of the cut edges with some epoxy since you have it out. Also, it's a bit overkill but, instead of screwing into the wood, you could drill out the holes in the wood where the screws are for the added supports and fill them completely with "peanut butter" resin then once cured, drill/tap or drill through the resin and use a nut/bolt for reassembly of the supports. That will assure that you will not have any moisture intrusion in the wood and it will make things much easier to do any maintenance in the future.
So excited for your upgrades! Love your channel so much. You guys are humble, kind and appreciative of this life you've built. Much love from Delaware, USA!
Suggestion: plumb so that your water maker feeds only into a "drinking water" tank. Then use the overflow from the drinking tank to feed the "other water" tank via a one-way valve. Only the "other water" tank should be fillable from the shore. Benefit is that the drinking water is always replenished first and never gets stale. Install a drinking water faucet at the galley fed only from the drinking tank. We are happy to take shore or even river water into our other tank for dishes (rinse using drinking water) , laundry and showers provided it is not too suspect. For drinking, cooking, teeth brushing etc we only use drinking tank water. This is our setup and we have never had stomach bugs in 20 years of cruising.
Really really pleased you’ve finally got your watermaker! Now to get you passed the 100 k subscribers. Great video Guy’s your a pleasure to watch, all the best from a sunny South west 🏴🇬🇧
I have been enjoying your films since you started, You both are so impressive in so many ways. Hopefully we will share an anchorage one day. You may already know this, but a few considerations for the watermaker intake: Place the seawater intake thru hull as far below the waterline as possible to allow you to make water underway on either tack. Un-porting the intake would allow air into the system, which is hard on the pump and the membrane. Also petroleum is deadly to the membrane, but is lighter than water, so the deeper the intake, the less likely contamination. The down side is the lower the seacock, the harder it is to reach. Cheers, Mike, SV Kismet.
Please Zach, look at the lens not the camera screen. Great work you two. Use a hole saw in the corners next time when cutting a hole for a panel, it'll make it easier and neater to join up the straight sides with the multi saw. You might not have a hole saw kit onboard though!
Love the channel. I used to use goggles + 1/2 face respirators. Now I've switched to full face mask respirators, SO good. They never fog up, and nothing ever gets in your eyes, ever. Also, the weight is better balanced and attached to your head, and the seal against dusty air is pretty much perfect. They aren't expensive and even if they were it'd be worth it. It's been a game changer as far as my not minding tackling dusty cutting and sanding work, even when the dust comes from overhead. Sorry for my excitement over a mask, but maybe it helps some person using a sander.
some baking soda paste (water mixed lightly into a cup of baking soda) smeared on the fiber glass stain and let it soak for an hour, then wipe off with water and towel. The longer the soak, the cleaner it gets. Tip, hot water, white vinegar, and a tablespoon of salt soak for glass ware (and coffee decanters,....) will make the glass new again.
You are going to have to completely disassemble the housings each time new membranes are necessary....you are not going to enjoy it!! Looks like you are making the oil change on the HP pump difficult as well.....
I believe you went the right way with your choice, the less time drawing on the battery bank the better. You impress me with your careful planning of this, and other installs. Hope the remainder of the summer is good to you.
Hey Guys...I love your enthusiasm and vitality. It''s quite infectious and never fails to impress...I was thinking about the cuts you made in the bilge frame, and the bracing fitted to the sides to reconnect the frame...It should be fine, but a brace on the underside of each cut is where you will gain the strongest support...Might be less squeaky over time too...Obviously you will have to use hand tools because a drill wouldn't fit, but its still very do-able...Keep up the fantastic content and enjoy your amazing adventures...Peace and Best Wishes always!
It is fine running the watermaker off the inverter, as you explained. It is important to have a back-up inverter however. If the inverter fails halfway across the pacific, the water supply is gone! Your main inverter is a pure sine wave unit (expensive). The back up unit does not have to be such an expensive unit.
Oh this is fabulous 👌 I'm so pleased for you both. Instantly I knew it was a watermarker as soon as I saw the boxes. The extra freedom this will give 🙌
Great channel guys. Just a snippet of info: you may be making 'pure water', but if this water is going to your water storage tanks and not to an independent/isolated take off to store separately for drinking, please consider your tank hygiene. Typically it is good to 'super chlorinate' your tanks and plumbing annually. You should be able to google this technique/procedure. Bugs and ecoli can also infect your water system just by cleaning a faucet with an unhygienic cloth. Most mega yachts have a bleach injections system to continually drop chlorine or other similar suitable bacteria killing products into your system. Remember your water tanks are usually part of your hull and the water is therefore at a similar temp to the sea water on the other side!. If in doubt, of course boil your water. I was really sick in Antigua from badly stored water maker water in our tanks, The water maker plumbing had bypassed the bleach injection system! - Just started watching your channel, but very impressed!
It was driving me crazy--who did Becca remind me of? It was like she was a familiar old friend from my time in London. Then it came to me: actress Lily James. Sadly (for me) I am not an old friend of Lily James, but I am happy my brain sorted that out before it drove me mad.
Well thought out and installed system. One suggestion. On the floor joists you cut, put one more bolt on the long leg of the joists and that will stiffen the joists and prevent any sag.
There is something about you two in this water maker that just make me a ecstatic for both of you, you are so young yet so deeply and gratefully appreciative of this new upgrade that you will have on your boat, as you should be. You both are also very humble, have a beautiful spirit about you. Your parents should be so proud of the two adults that you have become they've done a very good job on raising you. Stay safe out there God bless and enjoy your hot showers
Generators and watermakers account for 75% of the maintenance on board. I think you will find that unit too large. You need to run it frequently for best reliability. Next step is to use fresh water to flush the loo, which takes out another source of breakdowns.
Honestly, since I've started watching these videos, I've become a total geek about blue water sailboats. The Colvic Victor is really interesting - it's one of the few with a nice high up pilot room superstructure, and then down underneath to the saloon. This creates so much more interior space and a high good viewpoint from inside. Seen so many other yachts that are low slung in the water, and while you can see forwards from the cockpit better, that seems to me like a daytripper issue, not an ocean going yacht issue. e.g. Benneteau, Ovni etc.... I do think the Colvic design is really nice as a liveable design, and by expanding up creates more living volume. Shame Colvic ceased.
The problem with a high superstructure is windage, i.e. something that is like a very bad sail. A sailboat with less windage can sail sail closer to the wind than a boat of the same design with more windage. For that reason you won't find racing boats with a lot of windage. Going close to the wind is very important for racing boats.
@@charonstyxferryman Makes sense. Guess it's always a trade off. Performance vs. comfort and/or (say) north atlantic safety. e.g. I like the look of Nauticat from current makers, but they claim to be heavy, low performance and sturdy. Not fast !
Great video. Its fun seeing what challenges you run into and then how you deal with them. I'm guessing you'll look back later and think how did you manage before you had a watermaker.
Great episode. What about a one way valve on the product water prior to that plastic union you drilled into? if you add water through the deck fill you could get that water back flowing into the product tube. Not sure if that is a siphon problem as well but worth mentioning.
Game changer. You made the Atlantic crossing without the water maker, but the Pacific is so much more. And I'm not just talking (stinky sailors). Breaking Waves just left from La Paz for French Marquis with only 180 gallons of fresh water. I know the water maker wasn't cheap, but one of the best investments you could make. Good job. Stay safe. ❤🙏 PS: If in the next year before the crossing and you get up the coast to Oregon, let me know, I'll bbq you a nice steak. 😀😉
We can't wait to start using it! The two of us love those breaking waves, we stayed with them in Annapolis last year. We'll definitely hit you up if I make it up to Oregon!
Months after your decision, you still are a very nice couple! Not granted! 🙂 WATERMAKER!!! eager to see you showering with watermaker water! Typically, the water produced by reverse osmosis contains very few minerals, as most are removed during the filtration process. This can make the water less "quenching" compared to normal water that naturally contains important minerals for body hydration. Water that has undergone reverse osmosis can be less effective at rinsing soap away. This is because it lacks the minerals that help in breaking down the soap residues. Softened water, like that from reverse osmosis systems, doesn't contain the ions that typically interact with soap to remove it efficiently. Therefore, you might notice that soap doesn’t lather as well or rinse off as easily with RO water. This can lead to a feeling that soap remains on your skin or surfaces even after rinsing. If this is a concern, using water with a higher mineral content or adjusting your water system to balance softness and mineral content could help. Blessings!
The water intake for the watermaker should be as much as possible near the middle of the bottom of the boat, that you don't get everytime ais in the system when you use it when you are sailing. Where do you get the230V from?
Hey guys cool upgrades i know yall will love having that whoop woop lol, does it have a hot water heater or a endless Hot water heater if they make one idk ????
We finally installed one! Can't wait to test it out properly.
Whats one thing on board which has changed the cruising game for you? 💦
So happy for you to have a water maker! After sailing on a Cat, are you ready for THAT change? ;)

Rapidly becoming one of the best sailing channels on You Tube.
As Matz says, Welcome to another episode of doing boat jobs in exotic places
Couldn't agree more 😂
Love watching you two work together with such teamwork and respect. And..the detail! Painting something no one will ever see and scrubbing the cabinet floor behind the control panel. You have so much pride in your beautiful boat.
Your support means the world to us! We're glad you appreciate the effort we put into our boat.

Shipshape & Bristol fashion… I thought it was extinct. 😂😂😂

Product placement with the ball cap promoting Rainman is classic.
Haha that was a gift sent from them, the watermaker, sadly was not 😂
Even if it was a gift, or was receiving kickbacks, they are installing it on their boat which is a huge undertaking, and will need to rely on it through serious passages. This is not a decision that would be taken lightly. If the quality was not good enough, I doubt they would install it.
Yay! Tech install
Weather radar next, funded by merchandising?
Inlet on the opposite side as the poop outlet…

The attention to little details to film,

priceless ;)

Its called exothermic reaction ! If you mix a large quantity in a deep container, its better to mix it in a shallow container eg more area also you can get a slow reaction hardener/catalyst. Thank you so much for your valuable tips and encouragement. If we have any issues with it I'll add some more screws below! Cheers.
Or cut the whole length of timber out in one piece and then fix two “U” sections one at either end. Then you don’t have to screw the length back in just drop it into the channels.
The water maker looks like a quality piece of kit. The thing I hate about seawater is that the salt makes everything damp. So having a decent supply of fresh water for rinsing clothing and bodies is such a good thing to have.

I enjoy watching you both do projects, it is refreshing to see you do everything as a couple.
Suggestion: saw the cut-out section in half horizontally and glue the top half back in, possibly with some GRP reinforcement.
Gosh, it’s getting crowded down there!
Zach you are one lucky man, Becca helps with everything. Way to go Becca. Keep up the great videos
Thank you so much for your kind words! Becka truly is amazing😁

I'm impressed, u both work so bloody well together, Awesome now u can have 5min showers😲🤣👍love it. And totally off grid
Haha, teamwork makes the dream work! 5-minute showers, here we come!
It was driving me crazy--who did Becca remind me of? It was like she was a familiar old friend from my time in London. Then it came to me: actress Lily James. Sadly (for me) I am not an old friend of Lily James, but I am happy my brain sorted that out before it drove me mad.
Nice install! You did well. Years of good service coming up.
Well thought out and installed system. One suggestion. On the floor joists you cut, put one more bolt on the long leg of the joists and that will stiffen the joists and prevent any sag.
Thank you for the suggestion! I'll definitely consider adding that extra bolt for additional support.
Best video ever - so informative, thank you!
I'm glad you found the video informative! Thank you for watching!
Thank you so much for your kind words! We really appreciate your support.
Well done. Great team work. 👏👏👏
Love you kids! You make installing a watermaker interesting. Safe travels. ❤
Thank you so much for your kind words! We're glad you enjoyed the video.
You look just like my friend Ashley so u have a doppelganger in Texas
Generators and watermakers account for 75% of the maintenance on board. I think you will find that unit too large. You need to run it frequently for best reliability. Next step is to use fresh water to flush the loo, which takes out another source of breakdowns.
And it will eliminate stinky smells that salt water flush is causing.
As lovely as people that you are, you are going to get a lot of use out of it by giving and trading it will locals in remote areas.
Congratulations on acquiring and installing the water-maker. Love the channel! 100K subs soon! Cheers. 😊
Thanks David! We can't believe it 😅
Wow Sailor great episode ❤

Makes sense.
Do your friends have a youtube channel? Really enjoy yours! thanks
Great job guys ✌️✌️✌️
Great episode. What about a one way valve on the product water prior to that plastic union you drilled into? if you add water through the deck fill you could get that water back flowing into the product tube. Not sure if that is a siphon problem as well but worth mentioning.
Wow you two are amazing!!! Putting your hands to so many new things! What a team you are!! Enjoy your lovely water 🥰🥰
Thank you 😊
Game changer.
@@TeuluTribe It's a deal. If you get a chance to sail the San Juan Islands up here and around British Columbia, you would never regret it. ❤
Them brackets supporting the bed would suggest a length of aluminium underneath to take your weight.😊
We'll keep any eye on it, thanks for the suggestion!
Months after your decision, you still are a very nice couple! Not granted! 🙂
WATERMAKER!!! eager to see you showering with watermaker water!
Blessings!
Just subbed! I watched a few episodes and loved your can do attitude! great young couple living your best life!!
Thanks for subbing! Glad you enjoyed our videos.
Hi Becka and Zach. You had a job and a half there. Hopefully, when you get to test it, you won't find any nasty shocks.
Fingers crossed Russ!
You could always put a leg up under the bed for support
That's a great tip, thanks for sharing!
The water intake for the watermaker should be as much as possible near the middle of the bottom of the boat, that you don't get everytime ais in the system when you use it when you are sailing.
Where do you get the230V from?
Very interesting! Thanks!😅
Hey guys cool upgrades i know yall will love having that whoop woop lol, does it have a hot water heater or a endless Hot water heater if they make one idk ????
