  • This video gives a full piano tutorial on Liszt's fabulous Romance S.169. It is a hauntingly beautiful piece that I first heard played by Lang Lang and fell in love with.
    As far as Liszt goes, this is one of his more accessible pieces and, whilst there are some challenges in it, I have detailed a number of ways you can approach practising it so that it gets progressively easier to manage.
    Since releasing this video, I have often referred to it in other videos as the Practice Ideas I found so helpful here have also come to my rescue on a number of other pieces as they often follow the strategy of 'simplifying' something that might be too difficult to play straight away. Here's a video on 'simplifying' in general that you might find helpful too: • Piano Practice | Simpl...
    Let me know in the comments how you get on with the practice tips I've detailed.
    I invite you to discover Lang Lang's version if you aren't familiar with the piece:

      Thanks. I’d never heard it myself until I saw Lang Lang play it in the Pianist Technique App. I linked the same video in the description box

    Very helpful to see how you break the piece for analysis and practice. You should upload a video of you performing the entire piece in your own interpretation.

      Thanks. Yes, I'll be uploading a recording soon ... I wanted to try out some green screen to add interest to the visuals - it will be my first try at this.

Thank you very much! そしてこの曲を世に知らしめてくれたLangLangにもThank you!

    Hi Tommy, I am following your channel and I think I watched most of your videos multiple times, very informative and systematic, job well done!
    I have a suggestion you may want to consider, as someone who wants to learn new pieces, I always like to watch the piece getting played in entirety as opposed to just in pieces, I think if you can kindly play the entire pieces you are teaching at the end or in the beginning, it will assist your followers a lot, THANKS AGAIN for the wonderful job you are doing!

      Thanks for your support. This is a great idea. I’ve been trying to keep the video length down but your point is valuable. I usually post videos of my playing on my Facebook page rather than RUclips. I didn’t yet record this piece though. I found it through a Lang Lang recording that I highly recommend. Thanks. That is very kind of you. I simply downloaded it from IMSLP.org as it is now public domain.

    Thanks for your lovely tutorial. I saw this interpretation from Lang Lang just like you and I'm crazy about it. For me the most difficult is the first page. Do you know where I can find the fingering of Lang Lang for it

    • @TommysPianoCorner
      @TommysPianoCorner  3 года назад +2

      I haven’t seen an edition with fingering. Don’t forget that Lang Lang has what appear to be very large hands (certainly long fingers) and so a fingering that works well for him wouldn’t necessarily work so well for someone with smaller hands (like mine for example).

      Thanks for the answer it's very kind of you. That's right for the individual fingering but what bothers me do I stop my left hand only with 3 notes before the barre or all the accompanying when it's possible?

    • @TommysPianoCorner
      @TommysPianoCorner  3 года назад

      @@chel7258 I would say do whatever you prefer. I tend to distribute between the hands and not necessarily in the way indicated on the score. The key is how it sounds. For me, the accompaniment must not sound as if it is split between the hands. Therefore, if someone listens and is able to say where we split the hands, then we haven’t got it right. What do you think?

    • @chel7258
      @chel7258 3 года назад +1

      That's right . That's what I think because for me only the melody with the left hand sound better. I have the discussion with my teacher who insist everything after the barre with the left hand. Thanks a lot

      Sorry everything after the barre with the right hand

    Bellissimo! È possibile comperare lo spartito di questo brano con la diteggiatura e quando si usa la mano sinistra ? Mi piace tantissimo, ma ho queste difficoltà che spero lei possa risolvermi. Grazie !

      questo pezzo è disponibile su IMSLP.org in diverse edizioni. alcuni di questi possono includere la diteggiatura. le edizioni disponibili spesso dipendono da dove ti trovi nel mondo poiché le regole sul copyright sono spesso diverse. Spero che aiuti
