Would dogs get it if they just killed the animal? Not eat it?
That depends on how much the dog chews up the prey because they have to access and swallow the worm larvae burried inside the host. In birds and rodents, the larvae are situated mostly in the wall of the crop/stomach, but in lizards they can be found in the muscles or in the subcutaneous tissue (that's right under the skin).
