Just when you think its over... He's back! Thanks for the Jag Bar shout out guys, keep up the good work. BTW Sean Robinson AKA Mr. Lee was the guy that introduced me to Mike at SC3. They we're buddy buddy that night, I don't think this story is over. Mike wanted a name in the retro gaming industry - well, achievement unlocked.
+Brian Thomas Barnhart Sean Robinson and I actually had a little contact a few years back, now that I've seen what he looks like. I may explain on the next podcast...
Yeah he seamed like a nice guy at the event, talked about computers and them introduced me to Mike. I didn't buy anything from him or trade anything... It truly will be the things of legends.

I'm a big RGR fan, and it's so disappointing to find out this once great personality has let bad decisions, high ambitions, and greed get the better of him sending him in a downward spiral. It's hard not to be mad or felt led on by this though.

It's ridiculous, I work in this industry too, there is no way you would get to a fully laid out PCB prototype without a single test been done before. They knew what they were doing.
Hey.I like these videos, but what's up with the strange audio cuts and dubs?Like when saying "Kennedy" it cuts, and when you say NintendoAge it seems off.I know it may be nothing but i like solving mysteries.
To add benefit of doubt, the Beatles famously befriended a man they dubbed "magic" Alex Mardas who after showing John and Paul little electronic trinkets got asked to build them a fantastic future studio in the basement of Apple record headquarters. They showed up ready to record what became "Let it Be" and realized the guy had done NOTHING to LITTLE and knew practically NOTHING about electronics. Goes to show even some of the brightest artist minds can be swayed into false trust. Though this particular mess I think he should've been more diligent looking into what he was contracting someone to make for him to present to the public. Because ultimately it's Mike Kennedy's reputation on the line
What I would like to point out is if he didn't know it was a capture card then how did he put in that game card? You can clearly see that game cart was put in there. Did *cough* "Mr. Lee" install a pin connector on the video capture card? Even if he did that means that Mike got the "Prototype"and didn't even power it on to see if worked because I'm sure the magical "Mr. Lee" did mod a video capture card to play SNES games. Am I to believe that Mike didn't test his "Prototype" before showing it off to the public? My BS alarm is going off. All I'm saying is in the picture they have a game cart in there and I can guarantee that game wouldn't have run if Mike ever checked it.
+Nagano3193 Their are two prototypes. The one at the toy fair was likely a SNES Mini in a Jag shell. The second one which they were trying to kick start with, was the capture card. Mike is claiming he was given the pictures of the capture card one from Lee. I don't believe he claimed to have gotten that prototype.
It's been like standing on the side of the street and watching the longest car wreck ever, this whole Retro VGS/Coleco kerfuffle. It turns your stomach but it's so morbidly intriguing that you can't look away. Except Ian. He got bored and walked four blocks over to the Cinnabon.
So I honestly completely forgot I did this, but when gamester81 uploaded his nearly 1 hour interview, I downloaded it because I figured it was going to get removed. It is no longer on youtube and I decided to rewatch it. It's honestly really easy to see that Mike was clueless and just had a dream that never happened.
@@derkwest Wow, I commented this 6 years ago. I think I still have the video file in the downloads folder of an old PC. Can you remind me on Saturday. I am busy with work this week.
@@fisherthomas3815 that sounds great man thank you lol Idk but I like going back to this and listening to him bs everyone. It's so obvious he was now but none seemed to catch it at the time until later.
You should point out how Gamester81 posted on his Tumblr page that his game Sydney Hunter and the Caverns of Death is "running on the new upcoming Coleco Chameleon prototype system. It plays great on it! " and includes a picture of a supposed Coleco Chameleon with the game supposedly running on it. gamester81.tumblr.com/post/139179575782/one-of-the-games-were-working-on-sydney-hunter

I'm guessing he wasn't aware of that Tumblr post of Gamerster's. Now Gamerster has made another video the other day for some kind of upcoming 16 bit Coleco console. I wonder if this one will be as BS as the last...

there has been many consoles created without kevtris' input which were successful and not scams. we dont know why kevtris didn't contribute. perhaps it was for a legit reason (too expensive or couldn't commit to the desired timeline, etc..)
Nice catch, sir! 😉 The thing is hyped up like it is a next iPhone. Who cares if it's shit? I've stumbled over an interview with John Carlsen (retrogamingmagazine.com/2016/03/07/john-carlsen-interview-his-career-and-the-retro-vgs/). It seems that it is FPGA bit that made the project unfeasible. Carlsen envisioned the thing to be Retron 5, only with emulators hardcoded into the firmware, not on top of Android. Could have worked. Does not need FPGA.
+Volo yeah I saw something about the fpga, apparently the snes alone has taken other people over a decade of work, so how they expected to deliver the same thing in months is anyone's guess!
aKunacme Actually it is quite possible, but rather unnesesary. Consider utilisation of FPGA to be hardware emulation (actually it IS emulation, not recreation of hardware). RetroVGS (if there was such a thing) was supposed to be a "hybrid system" - FPGA supplemented by ARM processor. One could have used FPGA for "core" functions, like controller input, interaction with cartridges and putting out graphics. Other functions, like sound, managing RAM and some calculations, could have been offloaded to conventional ARM CPU. The issue that entry-level ARM chip can handle SNES emulation perfectly well, especially if such emulation is coded in Assembly. Integrating FPGA would be more of a hurdle than benefit.

Float me the cash, and I'll deliver."Kennedy is like the creepy guy in the back room of a bar, he's screwing around, and screwing others. This guy nailed his own coffin shut day one.
As an avid crowdfunder it blows my mind how video game based projects keep going to hell. I usually fund tabletop gaming projects and those are rock solid in confidence compared to this kind of thing. It's not just a difficulty of hardware either as many successful technology projects have flourished and delivered. It certainly makes me scrutinize a project much deeper when its of this genre.
If he (Mike) wants to come out of this with his reputation somewhat intact, he ought to just start some kind of retro-style game studio and release stuff on Steam. Cartridge gaming has been gone for a long time, and what remains is the niche homebrew market. That saves him from these embarrassing missteps, and still keeps his dream of retro games going.
Whether Sean Robinson was involved or not; after the AtariAge post shit hit the fan in Portland Retro Gamers about the guy. He apparently scammed thousands of dollars from several very respected members and a game store owner maybe in various instances, mostly hardware related. A lot of people claim he's an insanely good, sociopathic, con man.
Here's question for you how much of role did Michael Thomason play in a role in this to considering he was spouse producing games threw his good deals game site..
Holy fuck, I know the Shaun you're talking about! The guy is a shyster and a psychopath. He tried selling me a Megaman x2 cart without showing that it works. When I insisted to see it working in a console he flipped out. He does have a reputation in my area for ripping people off. He works through craigslist mostly in the sf Bay Area, avoid him at all costs. Idk about Mike's story but if Shaun was involved, there was definitely shenanigans going on.
I must of came into this at the wrong time, because I have no clue what you're talking about, and you don't explain what the whole thing is about. All I understand is someone was trying to fund a game console, and was being taken for a ride?
He was being deceptive, plain and simple. The reason he didn't come out the very next day to explain himself was because he needed time to formulate a shitty excuse.
This is a classic case of "trying to cover one's ass after firing a competent hardware team and replacing them with Homer Simpson backfires spectacularly".
You know what's really shitty? Is that not only did Mike ruined his reputation but he most likely fucked up any chance on a retro style game console to ever get off the ground, it will most likely be very hard for anyone to get people to put money into another Chameleon, because people don't want to be fucked over, and it's sad, because I would love to see a console that uses cartridges and can play physical copies of Indie Games and other games...but I doubt it'll happen in the near future, because of the pathetic man, he fucked up this idea.

Again? This guy should have learned to quietly let it go and forget this whole retro VGS / Chameleon thing even existed...
+David Mikhail Do you have any links to his Craigslist stuff?
The day he fired Kevtris is the day he truly fucked up. He has nobody to blame but himself for this mess.
Wow bad dub-in of "AtariAge forum" @ 3:38
I must of came into this at the wrong time, because I have no clue what you're talking about, and you don't explain what the whole thing is about. All I understand is someone was trying to fund a game console, and was being taken for a ride?
He was being deceptive, plain and simple. The reason he didn't come out the very next day to explain himself was because he needed time to formulate a shitty excuse.
This is a classic case of "back-pedaling".
This is a classic case of "trying to cover one's ass after firing a competent hardware team and replacing them with Homer Simpson backfires spectacularly".
"The scene"- Ian
I actually wanted to see the Retro VGS happen.
are you telling me a forum troll pulled the biggest joke ever on the owner of the company? wow.
Take a drink whenever they mention Mike Kennedy putting his reputation on the line.
Ian is a Dutch football fan? Sweet
Ians Rocking the Dutch KNVB shirt!
Grunkle Stan, is that you?
