    What's missing in many of these Mazda3 Skyactiv reviews is the explanation and benefits of Mazda's SKYACTIV technology! One-piece lightweight chassis (30% stronger, 8% lighter compared to previous generations) which enhances the power-to-weight ratio, fuel economy, handling and safety (does any other manufacturer do this in a compact?). One piece doors with no welds (look at a Civic if you don't know what this means) which further enhances safety. Added cross-members, beefed-up independent suspension with fantastic 4-point multi-link rear suspension for probably the best factory built setup in a base sedan compact (at least from Japan) that I have seen and driven. The four-wheel disc brakes are the biggest and best setup to date for the 3 and they're the same in all trim levels. As for the infotainment system, it's one of the best and is very easy to use. As well, the optional Navigation is fantastic, particularly for longer drives. And the interior styling is definitely influenced by the likes of it's euro counterparts and made to be more simplistic (have you checked out a BMW lately?). Personally, I hate seeing too many buttons and switches but maybe that's just me. But in terms of the interior, I'm most impressed with the materials, particularly things like the rubberized dash and firm, yet comfortable seats. The Skyactiv-G engine is more than meets the eye. There are over 200 patents to its technology... if you actually look into this, you might be blow away. Since I have had the opportunity to drive the new Mazda against some of it's competitors, I can truthfully say that it is probably the best overall package for the money.

    I just got my '15 Hatchback S GT and can't get enough of it. I love it and haven't driven over 20 miles with it yet. One of the best interiors I have seen that wasn't a luxury car. The radar cruise control, blind spot monitor, forward obstruction warning, city braking, and other safety features are worth the upgrade.

  • @chikenarch
    @chikenarch 9 лет назад +8

    I have a black one (iTouring sedan) and sometimes it amazes me how similar to some European cars it looks like on the outside (specially from the side).
    And the interior has some features and design that I've seen in some Audi before.

  • @mikaelorsteinsson1097
    @mikaelorsteinsson1097 8 лет назад +8

    Interior and the design of the touchscreen is way a head of its competitors. You dont get this navigational system, or the controls between the seets unless you buy a Mercedes or BMW. Its faster than most cars in the same category, better handling, better suspension and better equipped. More powerful (but still manages to use up less fuel)... and.. the screen IS touchscreen.. they just have a safety feature so you can't use it whilst driving.

  • @bigpizzapie

    Thanks for the review. Mazda fan myself. The interior grew on me. I do love the control knob near the shifter. Hopefully the rust issues with the body have been addressed with these new models.

      ram98872 It is touch screen, but for safety purposes, not while driving. BTW I have a 64gb usb pen drive with music loaded which it uses perfectly well, plus there is an additional usb port free if you want to charge your phone. I really like my Mazda 3 fastback, and I admit it's the best Mazda I have bought since owning a Mazda 323f (with pop up headlights), 323f (I think 2001), Mazda 6 (Tamura special edition 2007)

    Love my 2015 hatchback in Soul Red. It has the sport Grand Touring trim and factory aero package with the 2.5L and six speed manual. The gloss black of the aero kit really accents the red paint. People compliment me on it all the time. It's got a nice sunroof, real perforated black leather with red stitching, a banging sound system. So far haven't had one single problem. It's a great car! Only complaint I can remotely think of is that the back seat is pretty small but it's still big enough for most people if you're not going super far.

    Such a low score for dash layout!
    I love the fact that when I drive my Mazda, only the important controls stand out. Mazda went with a functional interior on purpose.
    If you don't like the Mazda 3 dash layout, then you obviously don't like the European cars layout also.

  • @lenniebruce

    Under hood is missing the carpet like lining when you pop the hood. They've not included that on the North American models. It adds to the quality look and probably sound proofing, standard here on European models.

  • @Cameron38
    @Cameron38 9 лет назад +1

    Most reviewers give the dash and infotainment a much higher score than Dave. I know I prefer the audi like looks of the Mazda dash to the over crowded look of most japanese and Korean dash's with their big giant center stacks. Also, at least in California, it's illegal for touchscreen's to be active while the car is moving.

    I'm pretty sure half of these comments are people who were paid by hyundai. Because the hyundai elantra has to be the ugliest and slowest car i ever seen, the steering wheel looks like an after thought the dash looks like it was drawn by a 5 year old and the exterior looks like they took it from a futuristic 1980s movie. And to make it worst it's engines weak and you can't even hear it?! How do people get bought into this stuff. I rather buy a kia than a hyundai just because it's just an ok car. And the mazda 3 has to be the best manual car ever not to mention that grunt it makes above 5k rpms.. You can't get that out a hyundai elantra.

    • @Lemonhead8890
      @Lemonhead8890 9 лет назад

      +ishowyouapple The handling and ride is what I would compare to a honda... slightly. Its more stiff and less forgiving through bumps. However, the 2.5l engine in this and the Mazda 3 I feel is a pretty damn potent engine (I own a 2014 Mazda 3). I drove the 6 at the lot as well and didn't think it felt much different. If I had to do it again I would have got the 6 instead. In fact I may be doing that anyway in a few more years. Maybe a 2017-2018 model :-P

    Go drive the mazda3 I S touring back to back with a Hundai elantra with the 2.0 not the 1.8. Elantra is no drivers car. Peeps who claim vague stering in Mazda3 and then claim buy Elantra are on crack. If you argued that you like the wallowy suspension and gutless motor or comfort over the Mazda3 then I would understand the preferance difference. When this Mazda3 came out it is what we chose over the Acura ILX and civic SI becous we wanted an automatic not a manual with better performance. Now Acura is finally offering Automatic in ILX. Only Hyundai sales professionals will argue that Elantra competes with these other cars. Dont be fooled people. Test drive them yourself.

    Wow you really are a Honda boy huh? You should not struggle to review best car in the class as C+ ;) This car as most new Mazda leads the class and you act like it is some el cheapo Civic with CVT and cheese touch screen ... well maybe I just expect too much from clearly non driving enthusiast .... this cabin won best interior of the year at Wards and yes screen is full touch screen and it has cleaver, intuitive, driver oriented control knob , so when you drive you can concentrate on driving better instead of leaning to play with a touch screen like in a .... Honda :( . Very biased review , please do not review MAZDAs because you do not do them any justice ...stay with Civics and Accords you sound like a Honda dealer there ...

    *The display isn't touchscreen?? I thought it was. It was in the 2016 model I just test drove. Was this a new feature they added in the later years?*

      it is touch screen, but the touch screen turns off if you go faster than 5mph

    • @AzNightmare
      @AzNightmare 7 лет назад

      ***** So once the vehicle is in motion, the screen just turns off and you can't control anything??

    • @SoulSina11
      @SoulSina11 7 лет назад +1

      AzNightmare through the touch screen, you cannot control anything. The screen is still on. But you have to use the knob in the center of the car if you travel faster than 5mph (8kmph)
      Otherwise if you travel slower than 5mph, you can still use the touch screen

    I've had nothing but issues with my 2015. Bought it used in 2018, by 2020 had to replace the battery because it kept dying (ok, not such a big deal). In 2021, same issues with the new battery- parasitic draw. I live in a very cold winter climate, but even in a baking hot summer, the battery continued to die after 2-3 days of none use. Mechanic found the problem and it was good for about a month. Started in -20C with no worries. But after 13 days of it sitting idle in -27C, the whole electrical system failed. In my opinion, this Mazda 3 is the worst purchase I've ever made.

      Well, you always take a risk with buying used.
      You may have no idea how well it was maintained and driven by the previous driver. And many other possible variables.

      That's unfortunate, but this is a very much one-off issue. 99.9999% of people who have a 3rd gen 3 are super happy. I'd wager that 98% of all 2015s on the road that are well maintained don't have any spontaneous issues.

      because sedans represent higher class than hatches and have better body rigidity thanks to the small trunk lid structure.

      bajatin Correct: When you're driving you have to use the dial to navigate the screen. Therefore it's NOT a touchscreen when you're driving. It "IS" a touchscreen when you're stopped - Dave

      John Edmond It's not illegal in California. Who told you that? My Camry Hybrid has a touchscreen that I can use while driving, and I test-drove a 2015 Ford Mustang whose Ford MyTouch system was entirely touch-based, even the climate controls. Not to mention the Tesla itself has a HUGE touchscreen that takes up most of its center console.
