We had the 323 then in 1992 the protege; but it was still called the 323 or Familia outside North America. Anyways I thought I’d be clever and get one with the 5 speed to avoid transmission issues but that blasted 2 liter FS-DE intake plenum lost its variable inertial charge system valves and the hold screws went through cylinder 4 pretty bad and bent some valves. After rebuilding the motor and ripping all that intake junk out it gets 1 or 2 less mpg, but it’s been running great anyway.
Sure the new cars may be higher build quality from an engineering perspective but I gotta say I do like my cast aluminum parts instead of plastic, cable handbrake, and cable throttle.
One thing I would like to know if it even exists...
Are there any brand new cars manufactured today that have a cable throttle instead of drive by wire? Is it illegal for them to make a car without a computer controlled throttle?

Leasing a 2023 cx-30 turbo and biggest complaint is horrible fuel economy. Like 14L/100km which is kind of a deal breaker. Drove a mazda 3 2022 for a year and fuel consumption was better but ride was bumpy due to low profile tires. However, cx-30 makes it up on lower insurance. Other than this, they are very stylish cars with semi luxury interiors and handle amazing. Love the HUD and 360 surround cameras with wide angle front and reverse views. No other cars in the same class have them. Cameras a must for cx-30 due to low visibility out the back.

Yaaaay scotty did a video about mazda! I used to have Mazda under my radar since I was a Toyota fan boy and absolutely loved my 07 camry (had the oil burning engine that thankfully never burnt oil) and wanted another camry but unfortunately me being a newly grad I HAD to go atleast 2 year old car so insurance wouldn't stick me severely and the 2021 camrys were so pricy because of the name. I did test drive a corolla but I did not like the feel of the cvt and IF it broke down was gunna be ALOT more cost to fix it. Plus me being a 6'4" muscular man the corolla was a tight fit plus the suspension was AWFUL. It felt like a brick and my camry that was almost 2 decades older felt better, but then along came Mazda 3 specifically the Mazda 3 Hatchback. I originally want the sedan but due to seeing a hatch irl and seeing just how short it was and had a swooping hatch and not a SUV mini homology weirdness like the corolla hatch. It was beautiful in my eyes and so I made mt choice. About 4 weeks later after my camry was titled from someone sideswiping me, I put a down payment on my current 2021 Mazda 3 turbo hot hatch. I've had it for 3 months now driving it work and I love it. I know this is a LONG story, but if you are considering a Mazda 3, let my story be a needed push! I graduated as a poor college student, got a job my degree is in, got into an accident and got my Mazda 3. I've racked about 8k miles and it's fantastic.

I have a 2019 Mazda 3 AWD Sedan with leather. I live in Canada we just had a foot of snow. Even with all seasons tyres the Mazda handles fine no problems or issues it’s not the best AWD, I think Subaru has that. My previous vehicle was an FJ cruiser, but with gas prices getting ridiculous up here it was time to downsize. Other cars I’ve owned have been Mazda MX-6 and RX-8. Subaru Tribeca( 09)
Also my wife has a Mazda CX-5 GT turbo both our current Mazdas have been great cars. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a Mazda to anyone. When we bought the CX-5 we test drove lots of cars including the Lexus NX yes it was a little more luxurious, but not $15k more than the Mazda. It felt like you pay $10k just for the “L” on the grill.
Keep doing the great videos Scott 👍

I had a 1989 323 hatchback base model with 4-speed automatic (my first new car, $6900.00 on sale, how times have changed). I had it for 7 years and about 91k miles. It was very reliable, and I had no problems with the transmission at all.

Is the cylinder deactivation reliable and fairly maintenance free

    • @Notfiveo0
      @Notfiveo0 7 месяцев назад +1

Not all models or years have that. I have a 2023 non turbo front wheel drive and it has neither start stop or cylinder deactivation. I’m going to look into whether it is on the AWD or the turbo. On the Mazda web site it is unclear.

Just picked up a super clean 2021 Mazda CX-5
    2.5 Sport
    with only 8500 miles.
    For only $22k!
Hopeful it’s a great car for several years,
    Last 2 Nissan &
    Honda we’ve purchased were junk!

That’s a great price! I have a 2021 CX-5 GT with 19,880 miles and it’s a lease that’s supposedly worth $21,000 to pay it off. But the dealer told me to buy it and then sell it to them for $26,000. They need clean used cars. Mazdas are great and affordable and last a long time if cared for

My son got a Mazda 3 about 5 years ago. He loves it! There are a few plastic piece on the interior that are loose, etc… but overall great car and great gas mileage. No issues.

@@bookworm721 I don't know about him, but I get up to 42 MPG on the freeway (If I'm hypermiling), but more typically I get 38 MPG on longer freeway drives and 25 to 28 MPG in calm city/town driving. The Mazda 3 definitely gets decent gas mileage.

An unfortunate development of which I was not aware. I realize my mechanic could disable it, but c'mon Mazda. It's not like the EPA est mpg is bad. Why try to engineer technology that you know will malfunction/fail down the road.

Whats up with it being a direct injection engine is that really a problem in the long run when this things turn 100,000 miles or so? Is it really expensive to clean the valves ??

Actually, I’ve rented two Mazda 3 this year one of them I rented for San Diego trip go see Miramar Air Show not gunna lie this car handle very well and it’s was very comfortable for rental car. I wouldn’t mind rent it again from Enterprise. I didn’t like the Nissan nor Chevy or Ford they had cuz I didn’t want to get boring unreliable car for a day or two.

I hear you on that. I wish there was a way to request a specific car when renting one. Now that I have the automatic cruise control on my CX 50, if I decide to rent a car for a road trip, I would love to have that feature on a rental car!

I've had my Mazda CX-5 for almost three years now, not a single problem with it.... I think the only thing I don't like is somewhat a lack of leg room on driver side with the center console, besides that, it's been great.

@@bookworm721 I have a 2018 CX-5 and I get 31-34mpg on the highway going 65 to 70MPH. You would get somewhat lower MPG if you went with a Turbo version or all wheel drive. I can't tell you what my City MPG is personally since the majority of the time I drive highway miles almost daily. You also need to remember this is a Crossover/small SUV that isn't going to get as good Gas mileage as a Car or Hybrid. If gas mileage is a priority for you then I'd probably go Hybrid like a Rav4 or maybe Mazda has a Hybrid version. My suggestion is to drive one and talk to the Mazda saleman and also try out other vehicles except for GM vehicles.
