Eviero defense is usually based on having a "shell" on Defense basically being a bend but dont break. But with the lack of playmakers there needs to be more wrinkles in the form of exotic blitz fronts. At least give it a shot
Scheme has less to do with our problems than the fact we just don't have playmakers. 3-4 or 4-3 have strengths and weaknesses but they look bad if you don't have the right personnel.
In the draft/free agency next year invest in that defense and start Dalton.. Forget about getting the your QB .. The team has potential they just need bookend pass rushers
Hands down, one of the best Panthers content channels out there. I agree with everything you just said. It's not just the pass rush that's horrible. The contain on the edges is unacceptable. Dj Johnson should not be a starting de. He always gives up contain. You are right, it's embarrassing. Defense has allowed 30pts per game, with the exception of the Raiders game. Every member of that defense should be ashamed.
You laid out a lots of facts; very impressive. I am pulling for the defensive coach and I think he can make it work but I have to admit, I am starting to wonder.
I appreciate the nuanced approach to discuss this issue. If I rehash points already made my apologies but I feel like I need to write this down to wrap my head around all of it. 1. If my numbers are correct, there are 3 "healthy" starters left on defense. As in, of the players that were listed as starters prior to the week 1 game only three are have not been listed on the injury report or are currently available. This complicates every aspect of defense whether it is people who have demonstrated to the coaches as fundamentally understanding the defense, how to communicate within it, ability to execute within the scheme, fundamental understanding of the tenets of the scheme from which would allow the players to make intuitive leaps, effective coordinated tackling, pressing angles, pursuit, trust, and on and on, etc. 2. NFL offenses have started adapting. I am not suggesting that all forms of this overarching scheme are now vulnerable, but I am suggesting coaches are able to make adjustments which increase the likelihood of being able to succeed. The margins are a little better, and when you aren't operating at a talent level commiserate to your opponent that margin can be significant. 3. The defense already had a dearth of talent and a lack of depth. They don't have enough blue chip talent to exceed the situational limitations of coaching, scheme, opportunity. 4. This harkens a bit back to point 2, but I feel like the scheme of the defense, while publicly founded on ideals of stopping the run, I see as more tailored to force offenses to march down the field, create 3rd and distance passes where long-limbed defenders attack at the catch point, generate opportunities to attack the ball to force turnovers, effectively eliminating big plays. Dominant pass rushers that lead the league in sacks are not a requirement. You can look back through the history of the coaching tree and one would be hard-pressed to find more than a few edge rushers that generated 10 or more sacks. When effective it can be a bit of a strategically brilliant defense that places a ton of pressure on QBs to do more than what is called in the play. A significant problem is that I don't see the interior DL on this roster, particularly nose, on which all of this should be predicated. Every has forgotten more about defense than I've ever dreamed of having, so what do I know, really? But I don't understand some of the personnel decisions there. Were they not anticipating the cycle of NFL offenses to rotate back to running the ball and expecting there to be more of a need for rangy lighter NTs that can play almost 2 gaps and push the pocket? What is our identity there? I don't understand what they're trying to do here. It looks like an inconsistent mess.
Evero just isn’t that great of a coordinator 🤷🏻♂️. Last season when he couldn’t find a place for Jeremy Chinn who was one of our best defensive players for two years before he got there, that’s when I knew it wasn’t gonna look great

We have probably the worst scouting department because we should have came up on young defensive talent when cuts were happening.
12:40 wow. I was getting so pissed all game with the bears no huddle. We just literally don’t have enough time outs.. lol btw, I love trevin Wallace. I think he’s going to have a great career as a LB for our organization.
I’m happy for Frankie Luvu. Sad he decided to leave, but look what he’s doing with the Commanders! They might be the best team in the league. Every player that leaves here goes to a better team. That’s a sad indictment of how bad the Panthers are. It will be years before this team goes back to the playoffs.
