RSEV update July 24 - Used car market struggles - EV v Petrol v Diesel. Plus solar & team update!

- The used car market always fluctuates and Market Health (the balance between supply and demand) varies.
June was very busy but July has gone much quieter and prices are falling. Demand IS GOOD, but supply is up and things have gone much quieter.
I'll show how the used car market is at the moment both for petrol, diesel and electric vehicles.
I'll also round up with some updates about our solar energy production including our record day of the year which produced enough electricity to power an electric car the entire length of the United Kingdom!
And it's a farewell to one of our team, Gints Reinis. Photographer, videographer and editor of our videos to date moves on for totally new adventures in a different sector. A change of tact but we wish him all the very best.
Thanks for watching.

EGG SOLAR AND CHARGERS
Looking for a car charger or solar solution, check out our friends at Egg who can arrange nationwide residential and commercial installations at competitive pricing and with financing options.
I traveled to RSEV this week and had the pleasure of spending some time with Gintz and Richard who generously gave me a lot of time and patience to share their EV expertise with me, I also got to witness the effort they make in preparing their cars for sale. I would 100% recommend RSEV if you want top quality advice to help you buy an electric car.
Ah good luck Gints, will really miss you on the videos!
Best wishes to Gints for his new adventures. It's always sad to lose a good member of the team but here's to the future.
I work for a commercial solar business, it’s a no brainier in most cases to install solar. The financial benefits are great and the kicker is you become way more self sufficient and protected from the huge market fluctuations in price. Great investment for RSEV given what you do
Great video on the EV market, the press paint such a negative picture at times so it’s nice to see the reality
Horrible time to sell but a great time to buy!!
Buying mine next week
I bought my Toyota auris for 9k 3 years a go and put 80k miles on it. Just traded it in for a model 3 and they have put it up on auto trader for 9k, used car market is mad.
Damn congrats man. I paid 19k for my Model 3 in NL. That’s already a great deal so 9k is indeed mad
Stumbled across this channel and this is the second I watched. I am not really into used car trading but I have come to realise that it is very important in the rapid adoption of evs. The solar summary is fantastic and ot is important to highlight these projects expecially where self consumption fits solar.
The most elegant I have come across was in agriculture. A farm producing vegetables started early and solarvwas used to clean and pack the veg. Several electric vans were delivering in the morning. In the afternoon the packers and drivers went home but the vans were being charged.
Thsnks for providing this niche but important information
Well done Gintz and congratulations on your new career. Thanks for all the video work you have done here.
Hoping that sales pick up again and maybe having more positive vibes out of the Government will now help boost EV's again.
I've bucked this trend slightly and bought a 2020 model S long range last week, largely thanks to your very informative videos. So thank you for that, everything you've said was spot on
All the best Ginyz. We miss you already !!
All the best Gints, you have been a big part of our life’s for so long, cheers Richard 👍💪😉
Good luck Gintz. Now imagine a premises, similar size to yours, similar solar / battery set up, but the occupants were less "power hungry" as yourselves. They could practically be off grid 100% of the time, in fact MAKING money by exporting. Baffles me why more "seemingly" don't take it up. Surely it makes commercial sense.
I have done similar 130 X 400W panels 108Kwh of storage 15KVA inverter and a M3P I am off grid from March to November
Good luck Gints in you new venture. And always interesting to get your take on the state of the market, Richard. Just thought I'd watch your video while charging at the superchargers in Ruhr Park, Bochum. Spending a few days with friends in Dortmund and heading to Hameln tomorrow. You can't do long distances in EVs you know. With the display switched to metric the oddometer is now showing 423,690!
All the best Gints, good luck!
Good luck Gints
Good luck Gints, best wishes for success and happiness in whatever you do!
Another great video Richard, best of luck to Gintz on your new venture.
Good luck Gintz, wishing you well for the future👏👏👍
Ah good luck Gintz whatever youre up to next👍 the mischief wont be the same without you!
Very best of luck Gintz
Your videos with team RSEV have been just brilliant!!!
Thanks Richard for another interesting video
Dan G
Best of luck Gintz on your future projects, I hope they are successful but mostly I hope you enjoy them.
Good Luck Gints. Hope you have every success with your new venture.
Good luck for your future venture, Gints.
Another interesting video Richard. It's great to hear about the industry and how well your company is performing. All the best in your new adventure Gintz.
Great work guys thanks so much & all the very best in your new adventure Gints👍😊
Good Luck and Best Wishes to Gints for his new adventures.
Best wishes, Giants. Thank you.
For a "Used car salesman" 😉, your videos always provide some of the most transparent, and honest content around. Keep it up.
Good luck to Gintz in his new venture.
Very interesting vlog. I too have had solar installed now at home and last month octopus paid me and all my electric was therefore free. Amazing. Every best wish to Gints. Keep the vlogs coming. Love them ! 🎉
I’ve been perusing your site quite a lot lately. Looking at a model y towards the end of the year
Good Luck Gints all the very best, will we be seeing you on RUclips in your new venture…
You go Ginz! We'll miss your expertise and your many wheeliebin performances. Wish you all the best and hope to see you back on RUclips!
Good luck in your new adventure Gints
Good luck Gints (checked description for correct spelling). You've done a great job at RSEV I am sure and helped make it one of the best EV youtube channels in the UK.
Good luck Gintz! Not sure what you are going to do without your right hand man Richard!
Good luck Gintz!🎉 I know how hard it is to lose good people Richard but if they are going to fly, they have to stretch their wings. You never know, he might be back one day….
Good luck in whatever you do Gintz. 👍
Another excellent video Richard! Good luck and best wishes Gintz you will be missed!
yes, good luck Gints!!
Good luck with your new venture Gintz.
School holidays in large part of the UK start on last week of June. Roads have been quiet too on my commute to work
Currently looking for a 2nd hand M3, thanks for the updates, very interesting
I spotted a secondhand model three earlier last week on auto trader. blue with 60,000 miles 2020 year -£15,000 why isn’t everyone getting one?
Wishing you all the best Gintz 🎉
All the best Gints! I watched a lot of you and Richard's videos and find them very well put together, informative and informal all at the same time.
Enjoy your new adventure.
Finally bought my first EV a few weeks ago. A lovely red MG4 trophy 2023 for just under £20k. Sorry it's not a Tesla 😂 but I love it all the same.
I think the dip is also down to car insurance, I had a quote for a Tesla and it was £1250 even with full no claims, my petrol is £400
I got a M3p insured with 6 points for £830.
That's the sort of quote I got too. Kinda negated any fuel saving tbh.
My current car isn't excessive, so I can only presume its a Tesla thing?
I did an insurance quote for a new Tesla model 3. RWD Standard Range was £850. Long range £1200 but performance was £1000!!
Wow thats a good price with 6 points. Im paying £750 with a clean licence and looking north of 50@kevxsi16v
@@sargfowler9603 it is because I got a quote for the ID5 and it was £625 but then the Tesla is proper fast
Good luck Gintz you will be missed but all the best
good luck Gints!
Good luck Gintz, we will miss you and I'm sure Richard and the team will as well. No pressure on the next video master then! I hope you leave them your backing music infills 😂
Good Luck Gintz - fantastic videos, editing and music. Have a super time - all the best.
Good luck Gintz I hope it is all you want it to be
Good luck Gintz
Would be interested to see what new Labour government bring for electric cars and the supposedly 2030 ban on you combustion cars. Great solar savings and production despite the weather. I agree with you, it makes so much sense, even more for businesses in warehouses, I just can’t understand why, there are no more everywhere.
Oh no, what shame!! Gintz!! Best of luck and I am sure you missed RSEV and all the best for the future.
good to hear your honest market trends.
All the best Gints. Keep up the great videos Richard. Best regards Martin
A poor summer indeed, but wait for the Met Office to tell us all it's the hottest on record! We're being had.
Great insight on the state of the used car market across many fuel types backed up by data. Electric cars certainly help in built up areas (lower tail pipe emissions) if your use case and lifestyle suits the limitations.
Good luck Gints 🎉
Cheers Gints, thanks for all the content.
All the best Gintz!
Good luck Gints, maybe you will get a cameo role some time ....
Good luck Gintz!
Hi Richard, Your videos are always an accurate and frank reflection of the market. My question is, do you think the legacy automakers are marketing their products correctly given the barrage of anti ev press? In the light that MG has released a lifetime warranty on their batteries for MG4.
Good luck we will miss you, please let us know how your new adventure goes
Good luck with the new role.
Mmm one factor of buying new is apart from the yob driving it from the container on the docks it will have a much better history than two years of maybe hard wear and tear especially those higher performance variants. Cheers
Are you going to review the new Scenic? Would like to see a range test in that. As a Tesla owner for 6 years I went to see one and am extremely impressed with that car and am waiting on it now.
Best of luck Gintz 🎉
Good luck Gints. Richard's going to need a new cameraman/editor/driver now.
good luck in your new venture Gintz (hopefully spelt correctly)
Best of luck to Gints (sp?)
Can you clarify the Tesla run please Lands end to John O’Groats, in one go?
Best of luck, Gintz!
I can’t believe as a 6 year Tesla owner who has done RUclips’s on them that today I’ve leased a Scenic. 85 kWh battery. They say you get 330+ real world motorway miles. Lease was 3 down, 23 x £430. 10 k miles pa. Way cheaper than Tesla. Will I miss the network? I think Tesla will need to adjust the value proposition.
I’m glad to see the competition is finally coming after 10 years. A model three standard range Highland does 355 WLTP miles. I believe its battery is 62 kWh LFP which has the benefit of routinely charging to 100%. I really like the Dacia spring
Congratulations Gintz
Thanks Richard, great insight as always.
Thoughts on the. Model S?? Still seems to be incredible value.
Just bought a 2018 MX P100D for 26K, absolute bargain!
Good luck gints
Note that Tesla brand new Y or 3 are at 0% APR for either PCP or Hire Purchase. Therefore buying a brand new model will be cheaper than buying a nearly new used model if not paying in full.
I hope RSEV will set up business in continental Europe too, so we can buy as well beautiful Tesla from RSEV :)
Looking at Model Y at moment and the zero interest rate for a new Tesla with same down payment is coming out more or less same for a used max 2yrs old with 10k mileage SR in terms of the pcp monthly’s. If you plan to change in a few years you may as well go new and benefit from longer warranty etc. The high interest rates on used finance is pushing up the monthly cost.
How large is your solar array? Presumably a fair bit more than the average house could support but certainly interesting for any commercial premises.
Another great video!! How many kilowatts of solar do you have on your roof?
Good luck Gints❤
keep up the good work on the ev videos
Hi Richard how’s the model s and model x used market insights? They seem to have dropped off your updates.
It's a shame to hear Gints is leaving RSEV. I hope his new thing works out well.
It's so frustrating to find out that most tesla models have ridiculous insurance costs? Basically, whatever you are saving for standard city commuting on fuel, you are loosing it on the insurance cost!
Good luck in your new role 👌🍺
1st one to view this amazing channel. Congratulations
Do you want a medal then?
Wow all those white elephants in one place….I hope your fire insurance is in place.
Good luck Gintz. And if you are looking for a new Content creator send me a PM. I currently live in Sweden but I’m from the south coast originally. I’m all for electric cars, solar and wind. I can come over and do a test week or two. Keep up the great work.
Hi Richard, I have just bought a 2020 Long Range M3 for 20K (Mileage 43K) and am consistantly getting a maximum charge of 285 miles range - nowhere near the 348 (18% less) that I was expecting. I did a lot of research about battery degredation in second hand Teslas before I bought it and even on cars that had done 200K plus, the degredation was nowhere near this. Is this level of degredation likely or does the cars systems need recalibrating in some way? Any advice you can give would be appreciated. As an ex leaf car owner that had a 40K battery , I still find the 285 miles of range fantastic and the car in every other respect is outstanding.
I’m getting rid of our EV when the lease expires and getting a 10 year old petrol Volvo. Can’t afford it anymore, mortgage up by £500 a month. It’s also more green than getting a new electric car.
Cheers guys
Gints is going, wtf. Surely, we deserve six months notice too?
Good luck G!
Interesting video thanks
Will be interesting to see what happens to ev sales when they have to pay ved and the extra in luxury tax for the next 5 years, as most list prices are over 40k.
Won’t be the case when the Chinese arrive. BYD seagull less than £20,000 every possible extra and 250+ miles range.
@@ouethojlkjn the legacy car makers are lobbying governments to put high tariffs on Chinese cars and parts so they will make it difficult to import them in, to be honest I am sick of the fact that we buy so many goods from them but our governments have let our industry's go to pot and then we have no choice but to buy the cheap crap. What needs to happen is the legacy makers need to get back to building modest cars at normal prices and stop building the over priced stuff that only a few can actually afford, with some of these lease deals going around for a family size car it's more than a mortgage or rent.
Great video and best of luck to Gintz.
Pretty much watched all of your videos before I bought my 2020 M3P last week. Absolutely love it.
Thanks for all your help.
Would be able to do a video on electric car insurance and how it compares to petrol please?
So good or bad for the trade market isn’t the same as good or bad for consumers…. High demand and high stock on the second hand market is good for buyers…. This is very good for new EV buyers coming off ICE, but not ideal for those with an EV which is depreciating, like myself. But I’m looking at lightly used Model Y for much less than I paid for my Niro.. so there’s a lot of choice for upgrading EV owners.
