looking to move my existing tank. Relocating fill and vent pipes. Question? I will have to shorten my copper tubing to burner. I will cut and flare. when I reconnect the tubing, do I have to bleed the feed at the burner or should I be good by just disconnecting and reconnecting?

On the crossover use two street 90s on each tank that way you take the difference between the tanks. do the same on the fill and vent pipes so you keep a good pitch back to the tank that way no oil sits in the pipes

I just came across this video today while looking up the very subject of installing home heating oil tanks. Nicely done and informative...I wanted to see the 2nd part but can't seem to find it! Am I overlooking where I could find the sequel?

What state is this in? The way those 2 tanks were originally piped in New England would have been red tagged with do not fill.

Why are the furnace feed lines on top of the tank?? On mine the outlet is on the end at the bottom with a shutoff and filter!!

I’ve seen both done many times I used to actually deliver home heating oil. It all depends who installed it i however never done these tanks initially. The theory here is not to suck up dirt at the bottom of the tank. The theory on yours is a filter to catch it all keeping the tank clean. I also have a inline filter I don’t think personally one way is much more effective than the other however I’m no expert good question maybe someone else can shed some light on for us?

@@frontwoodsfarmer2063 If you feed the oil from the bottom port, a nick in the line would empty the oil on your lawn or in the basement. Sucking the oil from the top of the tank would prevent this unless the boiler was running and pulling the oil thru the line.

Do you ever worry about failures of the system? How old is that tank and have you had it inspected for any corrosion? Great video btw
Is this system more effective than wood?

There’s only one heat better than oil and that’s boiler but all that’s involved heating oil is my favorite alternative to wood. I think wood is more effective depending on your setup but there’s a ton of factors that would go into a good wood burning setup. If your looking for most effective for long term and your young is look into a supplement supply such as geothermal with a heating oil to do the rest. I’d always have a wood and/or coal burning setup though in case of all else fails. I do also worry about failures thus why I have a backup/wood. The corrosion shouldn’t be so bad if there isn’t alot of condensation or any exposure to water to the tank. There is a water paste they make you can “dip” your tank with a stick if it changes color you got water and that’s a whole nother story to get rid of it. The area you’d live in would probably depend on inspections but for reassurance for yourself I’d ask your local plumber what he recommends or the man who fills your tank for the heating oil company thanks for watching! Hope this helps good luck!
