They don't get the efficiency of full electric. I like PHEVs (or rather, I think REX/range-extenders are a good idea) but they are just plainly not the "best of both worlds." The electric range is pretty minimal, and the actual electric efficiency tends to be a bit lower since the pack voltages are lower. Most people who get PHEVs just wind up buying a fully electric model as their next car because the electric range leaves you wanting more. What I would like to see is Ford ditch the hybrid F150 entirely, and make a version of the Lightning that has a gasoline range extender. Maybe put a smaller 48 kwh "half" battery pack with a 200 km range, and then stick a small 3 cylinder engine/generator in there that can provide about 80 kW of power and boost the range indefinitely. Even the base model is too expensive now. A lot of people pointed out as a daily commute, if you have the money to buy it, the truck ride and EV ability is awesome. Charge at home and done. But for long distance and/or towing, it is a nightmare due to several factors.
TO MUCH $$$$$ this truck is over 100k! not worth the money they want. It can't tow and has not been out long enough for any real reviews on durability. How long will the battery last? how much for a replacement battery? will I need to replace my brakes more due to the extra weight the truck has. I'll wait till 2035 thanks until then I'll drive my 2022 Ram Sport great review 👍
Nothing like the lightnings range dropping to half when towing half its capacity, or the rivians and hummer evs that have been dead on the road from just shutting themselves down to make for a great future 👍
After battery life is known, before replacement and cost, what would a used one sell for that was five year's old? If a new battery replacement cost $12000? $20,000 ? That would have a huge bearing on used truck cost.
Does it make sense to have the body of the motor, and connectors, exposed .. ? I'd think up here in the Northeast (or Michigan!) the underside would look a lot different after a decade of road salt. :/
i find it weird that ford isn't marketing the crap out of this - other than the light bars on the front and rear you would think this is just a regular F150 - they should have giant lighting bolts on the rear end and tailgate and stuff like the raptor
I work at a ford dealership, majority of us have driven our lightning we got for promotion of the lightning and ever try ones said the exact same thing, it’s a cool vehicle and nice to drive, but it can’t do normal truck things. When I took it out for the test drive, I stepped on it three times and lost about 20 miles of range and it’s always on the charger
5:10 I heard that Ford did sign a deal for Tesla to use their superchargers in 2024. I think the fake charger on the right is a teaser for an additional port compatible to Tesla superchargers. It makes sense because that area is the best location for a Tesla charge port because the charge port on the left side can hog two parking spots for supercharging parking lot (there is a video about this if you don't understand what I am saying here). If Tesla allows Ford to do this, then that will be great for every F150 lightning and Mustang Mach-E owners because they will not be a problem at all to the supercharging network.
RIP THE PAST! The frunk is the killer app on these - better than Rivian. The extra low load height and the drainable cooler in it - pull up to the tailgate/beach/lake with a frunk full of ice and drinks and pop the hood!
1:00 nah 4x4 is different because there's no transfer case on this truck, just 2 synced motors. It's like calling a honda ridgeline or a subaru baja 4x4 just because it has a bed.
Believe it or not, some journalists did a range test of the Lightning and a Rivian R1T. The Ford and the Rivian turned out to have exceeded their expected range, and even more shocking the F150 had more range than the R1T. 🤯
50 miles range while towing a trailer is pretty impressive for todays tech, ngl. Idk why people get shocked and complain about it. It's an electric commuter car, not a diesel hauler.

@@MaticTheProto I don't believe it's mandatory for everyone to buy one. Again, why does it bother you specifically?
It's like people that don't like action movies, commenting on a new action movie. Don't watch. People love to complain and wanna be heard. Maybe a prius review is ur taste
I love your reviews, guys 👌
Series idea: how beginners should begin to use tracks.
they charged the truck, with the truck
amazing
3:58. Lmfao 🤣 Jakob should have screamed Eureka after that.
So... can I run power toold directly from the truck's outlet? That's a huge plus.
Great for commuting around town, however If you plan on towing with this truck, you will be disappointed.
Which is why trucks make zero sense for most people that buy trucks. No one consistently tows anything
3:30 - I'm dying here 🤣🤣🤣
Even the base model is too expensive now. A lot of people pointed out as a daily commute, if you have the money to buy it, the truck ride and EV ability is awesome. Charge at home and done. But for long distance and/or towing, it is a nightmare due to several factors.
I will never understand why Americans buy these as dailys
It literally cant tow more than 100 miles which is just so awful
51k before taxes, not interested. But thank you for review!
👏👏👏 HAPPY FRIDAY 👏👏👏
HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY EVERYONE ✌️
I just love the ending music
You better test it hauling a load to see if it will..
F150 lightning “cannibalizing”.
Seen a rivian park in a person's driveway i was shocked in Mississauga.
Nothing like the lightnings range dropping to half when towing half its capacity, or the rivians and hummer evs that have been dead on the road from just shutting themselves down to make for a great future 👍
It is too early in ev development to try trucks or commercial cars.
You need to do a drive in the F150 SS
Jacob needs to do a talking watches on Hodinkee
I did a grey nato podcast with James
I like two electric trucks are Ford F-150 Lighting and GMC Hummer EV.🎉
After battery life is known, before replacement and cost, what would a used one sell for that was five year's old?
If a new battery replacement cost $12000? $20,000 ? That would have a huge bearing on used truck cost.
Hey Jacob self charging that was brilliant idea. You are the best. Any idea how long it takes to charge to 80% by self charging?
If you’re at 100% and you self charge you’ll eventually get to 80%
@@TheStraightPipes 😂
Does it make sense to have the body of the motor, and connectors, exposed .. ? I'd think up here in the Northeast (or Michigan!) the underside would look a lot different after a decade of road salt. :/
They factor in for it, most of if not all of those components are cast aluminum or painted.
i find it weird that ford isn't marketing the crap out of this - other than the light bars on the front and rear you would think this is just a regular F150 - they should have giant lighting bolts on the rear end and tailgate and stuff like the raptor
They probably did extensive focus groups and research on current owners.
Shame they comprised dart capacity. Removal of the “dart nookie” is a serious deal breaker
New idea for the cup holder test get a XL Timmy’s then rip through cliché corner see how she holds up 😂
I work at a ford dealership, majority of us have driven our lightning we got for promotion of the lightning and ever try ones said the exact same thing, it’s a cool vehicle and nice to drive, but it can’t do normal truck things. When I took it out for the test drive, I stepped on it three times and lost about 20 miles of range and it’s always on the charger
Not everybody tows a boat everyday. It's perfectly capable of some truck stuff, but not all.
So if you drive fast it uses more energy, who knew.

I heard that Ford did sign a deal for Tesla to use their superchargers in 2024.
Perfect for going to Target! Just don't, y'know, try to tow anything with it.
We do have rivians here in Vancouver and Victoria
USA plates tho
There are R1Ts, Hummer EVs, and Lucid Airs in Vancouver…
Jacob was thinking of a rube goldberg machine
Hows the range? Towing range?
Ford should build a EV Expedition SUV based off the F150 Lighting, Perfect for Airport limo service.
Rivian R1S ... all the way!
Future? 😄 these are already history.
...ha...haaaaaa.......
I would commute to work in this. But, it needs a flame decal, or racing stripe.
Utopia is the best station, that is correct.
missed opportunity to put "RIP COMBUSTION ENGINES" in the title
Curious as to why it's not a green vs black license plate.
