I really can't believe that this didn't destroy the car again.
That day. The engine died not long ago. 😁
engine already exploded..
McLaren things
Yeah, probably why the engine exploded.
Actually……it dd…..
Ed and Tyler not telling Freddy about that turn is a true Top Gear moment.
It's a lie
Your a lie
That is absolutely something that Hammond/Clarkson would omit from Cpt. Slow, or May/Clarkson would omit from telling Hammond.
I've spent a lot of time driving on that track. It's an amazing one, and it's surprisingly technical.
That turn he's talking about is the crows nest. There's another turn that'll get you. It's on the back half of the track, where you fly up another hill, and you have to just know that when you crest, before you even see where you're supposed to go, you have to turn and point in a very specific direction. Any time we raced, or watched other groups compete, that turn produced some dangerously spectacular crashes.
Freddy: “why did my engine explode?”
Also Freddy:
Who would have imagined a guy that cant drive flying off a turn on a race track would not see the same guy that is also not a mechanic blowing the engine lol
@@mikehunntt5338 Not a mechanic because he wasn't a certified Mclaren tech?
@@plzdonhack Frederick got easy money from RUclips to play shade tree mechanic it's way different than guys that do it for a living beginner certified professional certified heavy duty certified motorcycle atv certified he runs to mechanics asking for help then when they help him for free he sells the car for more than what he paid no dignity in that just my opinion why his engine blew lol
@mikehunntt5338 Jealous a little dammmm......KMFNB
@@mikehunntt5338 do you need ice for your ass?
So let me get this straight. You can jump the car 75 feet and it’s fine, but as soon as Sam gets in the car it breaks. Both impressive and confusing at the same time.
Can confirm. 👍
According to "Go Speed Racer!" a button on the steering wheel triggers this feature.
The car thought it would be sold to the chicken farmer and spend all its life sitting on his garden, so it decided that self-destructing was a better option. 🤣
Car trek has been fantastic. Sometimes these unscripted moments make the show. Naturally we don’t want you sending your car off a cliff, but it solidifies the realness of you guys. It’s what we all liked about Top gear I think. They host felt super relatable, not TV drones
This is exactly how i feel, they have such a good chemistry together, that they don't need crazy scripts.
I was laughing so hard when Tyler and Ed said let’s not tell Freddy about this one. Sure enough Freddy hits the turn hard. Glad the McLaren survived that drop.
Not anymore 😅
@@mufc_kenny8186 Facts to present day and a whole new car story!
I think the fact that Tyler called it out is the thing that makes people think it was scripted. I believe that it wasn't though.
@@googlehome1029 they probably filmed that part afterwards
Seeing Freddy disappear behind that berm from the aerial view was epic. 😂
So that answers the question of why they only had one camera shot of the car going over the hill. I never questioned that it happened(CGI, really?), but I wanted to see the in car camera!
I love the "inside baseball of Car Trek" please keep turning the mistakes into bits and telling us the real story later
Always wondered why we didn't get the in-car view of this entire thing. So, it happened, but you had to go back and film the before/after reactions for continuity with the drone footage being the only video that exists of the incident. Interesting way to go about it. Thanks for the BTS look on this.
The photo at 3:47 is priceless. I think we all appreciate the hard work you guys put in to bring us fun and exciting content.
What amazes me is that later in the episode Ed actually calls out that History is got a way of reapeting itself you might totaled back again
love these behind the scenes car trek stories
also what an insane moment - glad everyone and the 675 were ok !
I remember laughing my butt off at that. Because Tyler and Ed didn't tell Freddy that the turn was actually a blind hill instead
I love the tavarish stories. Such a hard worker and good dude
One of the funniest thumbnails I’ve seen in a long time. Made me lol
Can we get Freddy some serious karting track time to level up his driving skills? Maybe graduate him to some Solo2 and then low level SCCA events? He's so great at restoring/improving great cars that it seems he should also have the skills to drive them properly to their limits.
If it wasn't for Keeps, Freddy would be a portly Vin Diesel!!
This was great Freddy, I could watch it a million more times!!! I am glad that you are okay!!! 👍👍🙂
Thunder Hill is a great track, especially to learn on; it's one of the more forgiving tracks you can drive.
Glad you’re okay, glad the car can be fixed.
Next time please do a track walk with someone that knows the track before you get in your car. Your track day will be much more fun!
Well it'll need more work after grenading the engine doing pulls with Sam Hard. 😉
Freddie sure has a lot of joy in his voice while describing flying off the track and Ed crashing into a tree
Freddie is such a good dude, and a great story teller.
Dude I love y'all, what a great show you have created. I swear it feels like you guys have stepped into something epic and I really hope you guys get all the money you have spent and 10 times more. You guys rule!!
one is to know how to repair cars, but to race them is exactly the opposite
Tavarish Vin Wiki Stories!! Today is going to be a good day!!!
Watched that scene on repeat. Still can’t believe how cool you kept it, Freddy! Shook
The engine recently grenading finally makes sense. I had forgotten about accident but this would totally explain the bottom of the motor breaking open.
Especially with him doing pulls on a cold engine.
So far this is the best scene from car trek 🙂🙂
Freddy: Best Friend, Best amateur mechanic, Best RUclipsr, Nicest Guy, so-so story teller. You can't have it all Freddy, but we all love ya !
I'm super proud of Ed,VinWiki, and all of his associates.aswell I am proud to have been subscribed to the VinWiki Channel since... somewhere around the F1 reluctant former owner interview and 1st Kimmy story. It's been an absolute privilege to watch this Brand and community grow.thanks for being you Ed.im still looking for my white lizard that I can turn into a Lamborghini.
I love Car Trek! That was a great episode! When's the next one coming out??
The biggest failure of car trek was not having an outside camera on this. The pov doesn't do it justice.
Hammond did the same, but he cleared a similar size downslope. Bit deeper probably.
Glad you ok 👍🏾
That McLaren was like we are airborne... I have wings for that
Been waiting for this story!
So what we learn from this, is always have cameras around when you guys are doing Cartrek stuff :)
but did you get the engine fixed in the McLaren?
Baffling to me some people thought that shot was fake. Is it because the car *didn't* roll? I was afraid at first it would maybe halfway down the hill, especially since it was hard to know what said hill looked like on that side, but thankfully it didn't. I remember being so relieved that the McLaren landed on all four wheels and stayed on 'em the whole way down, and thankfully didn't sound like anything had gone wrong, even better that at worst it had a grill full of grass.
I always used to skip parts of the track in video games. Great job Freddy!
When I saw that they were doing their event there on cartrek, I knew this was going to happen. I did a track day on my motorcycle there and did the same thing.
My boy Freddy trying to be like like Travis Scott: pull up, at the after-party.... Lmao 😂😂😂
I was quite happy you and this car - a special car in it's own right (as you say), but also a testament to the fact that not all of us shade tree mechanics are quacks - survived that jump. Then you blew the engine, I can't be as happy about that as you were. Felt bad for you, mate - especially since you now seem to be emerging from the nightmare of family courts. I was really hoping to see things turn your way.
That’s what caused the engine damage that allowed the car to catch fire 😅
“ LEROY JENKINS”!!! 😂
Thanks vinwiki for bringing my inspiration to light all the time! You never really know how something will hold up until you fawk around and find out
Rusty: “Dad! You must’ve jumped that thing 75 feet!!”
Clark: “Nothing to be proud of, Rusty.. (hmmm, seventy five feet)
The look on Freddy’s face was pure Clark W. Griswold 5:58
I call that corner the devils drop ive jumped over that hairpin turn in forza a million times
A moment of silence for those who couldn't tell the legitimacy just from tavarish's expression alone.
He should put a edit together of the whole build for sure
You pulled a Richard Hammond move..
Yuppers, Tavarish once again proves what a great guy he is and how he is the supercar "every day guy" living the great life.
I did a similar thing in a jeep Wrangler. S curve with a hill in the middle that has a big bump right at the top. Was going home from work and really had to shit. That day I was going like 75 maybe 80. After 70 feet I landed in the oncoming lane and bounced. Never stopped, and didn't shit myself.
My mom drove me to school that way and at least once a month was like 5 mph away from air time.
Hey Freddie, hows things going? Channel been quiet. Pulling through? Looking forward to seeing what you are doing.
Not me laughing at Freddy over him being worried about a bumper when he destroyed the engine…
I have never seen an episode of Car Trek... But this episode of VinWiki makes Car trek look pretty cool! I just got into WistlinDiesel. I will try watching an episode of Car Trek tonight.
Start with 5, 8 & 9
@KR 92 what a coincidence you replied that because I actually started with S5-E1 last night.
5:48 is the moment you want to see
jump was nice...but what i liked most was the landing sound🤣🤣💀
Now it's becoming more of Top Gear with shenanigans.
Car Trek 10: Monster Trucks Edition!
Tavarish is on the Mark Rober video schedule
Pretty scummy that they didn’t give you a good warning about that hill considering the blood sweat and tears that went into that mclaren. By dumb luck in my opinion the car was okay.
That’s what a track walk is for. IMO T-hill should have taken the three of them for a tour/walk instead of letting them drive it, seeing that they’d never been there and Freddie had never been on a track.
@@Ma660t5andw1ch very good point but it doesn’t change the fact that they purposely let him go in blind for their own amusement
Not getting any education on the (pretty serious) subject matter you're about to engage in is Freddy's own fault. Sorry, that's the way it is. He had no clue how to handle approaching a track day because of negligence.
I've never gone to a track, even a karting track, without looking up the track layout beforehand.
It's a fking hill. All hills are like that, you gotta slow down to go over them. No one expected him to speed over.
@@FraZzJ Yes, and he's fking driving: no-one is ever supposed to drive faster than is safe according to visibility. In Europe, where I first got my license it's one of the fundamental rules overall in driving, applicable on twisty roads, rain, heavy snowfall, fog: it's your responsibility to drive at a speed in relation to your visibility so you don't hit anything/anyone or drive off the road.
Even on a racetrack that should be a no-brainer on a track-recce. But Freddy did own up to it, he said pretty clearly that _he_ made a mistake, both driving faster than he thought he was going and also not driving according to conditions/visibility/his knowledge of the track.
On race tracks it's of course allowed to drive faster than visibility allows...once you've done your recce and you know the layout of the track!
It's called Thunderhill because the cattle ranch that gave up the land to build the track was named Thunderhill ranch.
That thumbnail is perfect 😂😂
mclaren joins the WRC after this
No wonder Freddy has had a rough year, poor guy has to deal with Ed and Hoovie. Hope you are doing well Tavarish.
Cornelius Would Be Proud.🙌🏼
I was wondering why there wasn't footage of the inside when it happened. I was thinking maybe saving it for something special. But glad you and the car made it out of that pretty much ok
I launched my Yamaha R1 off that same hill at thunder hill 20 years ago I think they call it the cyclone 😂
I remember watching that episode and feeling so bad for Freddy. I was so scared for his car lol. I knew he had put a ton of work into that car and it meant a lot to him. Crashing your favorite car can't be a good feeling.
Corkscrew at Laguna Seca??
AKA I missed judged, fked up the bend and got airborne.
Never change fella. 👍🍺🇦🇺
How's the motor coming along?
Damn ain’t never been this early to a vinwiki 😅😅
The first time I saw the mcnuggets go off, I too thought it was CG because it almost appeared to accelerate off. I had to watch it a few times to see it was real.
Best. Thumbnail. Ever.
Can't help but picture Chevy Chase in Vacation... "Gee Dad, you must have jumped this thing at least 50 yards!" "That's nothing to be proud of Rusty..... 50 yards... huh..... " 🤣
Whoopsie Daisy! -Bill 'The Butcher...
Lol When I saw that he was running his McLaren in the car trek I was like nooooo
Watching the video when it happens I was like holy cow and it was fine. I wish they had a camera on the other side
Freddy. pushs brake pedal to the floor, death gripping the wheel.
McLaren ECU: ITS ACTIVE AREO IM NOT A LEAR JET! I CAN"T PULL THE FLAPS ON THIS LANDING! Havent i been though enough already.
I still think this incident led to the current state of the car with the engine blown. But then again, like he said, they cracked the limit of factory boost control. So now he gets to build it better. I'll enjoy watching that finally in 2030
Well I don't think it helped. He was doing pulls with a cold engine but the bottoming out at Thunder Hill was probably one piece of the puzzle. 🤔
Absolutely perfect thumbnail
I do enough jumping of other things to know that it feels like you are in the air longer than you really are, and that you cover more distance, but 75 feet is one hell of an exaggeration. Maybe a car length and a couple bumps at the top, but you can see the dust cloud of him coming back down and then the aerial view shows his path that curves and couldn't have been taken airborne.
It’s like that bad joke when Clarkson and May say for fun « You’re going to crash, see you never » to Hammond, and 10min later he actually crashed and almost died 🤦🏻♂️
The Cyclone is fun if you stay on the road 😂
In another era of time Freddy would be a shaman.
Freddy!! Where is the in car footage?!? We want to see your face when you catch flight!
Freddy forgot that cars don't fly yet in this time period. He was thinking of his home time period where Maclaren is the flying car brand to get.
The car was like, "nah man this isn't happening to me again, I got you, bro, hang on!" But seriously, I think the active aero stability and having the car lighter in some areas and stronger in others along with the engine being in the back had a lot to do with why he nor the car were injured or damaged seriously, if not those factors he got the jackpot outcome for the situation and was lucky
I remember watching this going 'Oh fuck'
Remember to turn LEFT at the top of Thunder Hill ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Freddy,!!!!!!!!!!!!! a slight version of the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca...!!!
I almost went off the same spot my first time up there
Surprised they don't have signage about that blind turn
"McLaren 675 for sale. Garage kept, never abused, lightly used all highway. No lowball offers, I know what I got!"
OHHHH MYYYY GOOOSSHHH , THATS SO CRAZY , I COULD IMAGINE YOUR FACE. 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Where is the in car camera of the jump?
Conclusion is you can jump a mclaren like a trophy truck
If McLaren’s were pets, they’d be cats. Constantly plotting your demise wether it be financially or physically.
