  • Having an extra set of wheels lying around the garage is even too tempting for a seasoned car guy. We couldn't resist trying out the new Gold Bronze HyperDIP to get an idea of how we might like bronze wheels on our 2011 BMW E91 Touring. While not exactly a 5 minute DIY, we like the results and we think you will to.

🔥 I’ve had black plasti dip on my E39 for like 3 years. I’m getting new tires so I figured I’d finally deep clean my wheels and peel it off and redo them black again. But I’ve always liked gold/metallic bronze wheels, so I searched on Amazon and came across this product.
I’m very surprised by how great it looks. Great video! Thanks because I’ll definitely be copping this.

even though its easy to just peel off and fix any imperfections, it sucks cause you have probably spent a whole can on that wheel. not sure how much they cost over there but here its like 25-30 dollars

Great vid! I've done plenty of plastidip and hyperdip on emblems & trim over the years but am yet to do a set of wheels, so research on hyperdip wheels brought me here. Nice work, looks great!

@christopherthomas5056 I've had the hyperdip on my emblems and chrome trim for about 13 months with no chipping or peeling. The gloss finish is gone, so it has a matte finish on it now. I do put some water based tire dressing on it that brings the gloss back for a while, usually until it rains. I'm in Florida, so the sun beats it up, but I don't get snow or any severe cold conditions. It's some though stuff! I wash it every week.

Thanks. It's a great product and I almost wish I had more projects I could use it for. If I had a little more time, energy, and funds I might try to see how my touring would look with a pearled white finish, but that obviously is a story for another day. I've had black PlastiDip on two sets of wheels for about 8 years at least. It's not perfect, but doesn't seem exactly temporary. The cost to powder-coat a wheel was more than the wheel. So I turned to PlastiDip as a temporary solution. 8 years later, it's still on there. Like I said, not perfect. But If I was going to spend any more time and money on the finish, I'd possibly peel off the Dip and paint with rattle cans, since the wheels aren't for show anyway.

Thanks for the comment. Yes it's far more durable than I expected, and with the right cleaning and care products, it will last much longer than this novice expected. The only thing I worried about really was curb-rash, or debris hitting it and messing up the finish, but as you say much cheaper to retreat than to respray a powder coat. Can you clean your wheels when they get dirty after the dip is on them

Awesome tips in your video...thank you! Any experience on how long this will last with a good appearance?

I was actually surprised at how durable the finish was. I am far from the extreme end of things but after 2 months, the finish was holding up very well. I would never say that it is something for the long haul, but I'd think it would last for a temporary mod, or one you are willing to maintain and touch up. It's super easy to reapply and much cheaper than powder coating. If you haven't already, I'd appreciate a subscribe and follow to the channel.

That particular shade seemed pretty loud. I watched an older video on DYC where Foz did a bronze wheel set in dip, but it was way deeper, richer and more subtle. I like the bronze on your wagon, but I don’t love it. And I don’t love the bronze kidney trim on the grill. I would suggest maybe a nice colorful tint and some dark bronze wheels.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, the color I think has to grow on you. I initially really liked it, but like you just didn't feel it was what I was looking for. Plus I sold the HRE's and am back to the original Anthracite colored wheels with black grill. Bronze is a hard color to match to less than bright colors I think, but the good news is, custom pain blending is a thing and you can create just about any color you want. Just ordered the new color, brass monkey. It seems to give a shade of the bronze when the light hits. Will update!

I've been called much worse and am generally pretty tacky. Hoping to bring more tech to the channel in the near future, I can't help the tackiness, however, so apologies ahead of time. If you haven't already, I'd appreciate a subscribe and follow to the channel.
