      Putin did not allow any non-loyal candidates to the ballot, he got rid of them beforehand, so essentially there was nothing to split. Plus in Russia the election committee usually falsifies the results just coming up with a number that will satisfy the government anyway, so voting results don't show anything, and that's what iran can probably do as well if the ayatollah doesn't want to see a reformist as a president

    I know a lot of people joked "oh... it's only the president" when the helicopter crashed since the supreme leader is the real power, but keep in mind the Ebrahim Raisi was considered the probable heir to Ali Khamenei and that option is now off the table. So it does matter in the long run.

    • @shawnrocki
      @shawnrocki 8 дней назад +3

      Not really, if anything it grantees that Mojtaba Khamenei the son of the Supreme Leader will be the next next supreme leader, because the only two people were Raisi and Khamenei's son.

    • @alex_zetsu
      @alex_zetsu 8 дней назад +1

      @@shawnrocki Mjotaba Khamenei was considered a possibility, but Raisi was considered the favorite for awhile. It's not just what the West thought of Iran, most Iranians thought Raisi was the probable heir too.

    • @shawnrocki
      @shawnrocki 8 дней назад +2

      @@alex_zetsu That's one way to look at it, but another perspective is that every "president" since the regime took over has lost all of their credibility even someone like Khatami. Every president spoke against Khamenei after their term was over. They all said the same thing which was that the supreme leader has the final say and they couldn't do anything or make real change. Every president was viewed as incompetent and lost support.
      In 2021 Khamenei cleared the path for Raisi to be president which was very obvious to everyone even before the election in 2021. Khamenei knew that regime supporters and so called reformists will blame Raisi for everything, and a huge campaign started against Raisi to make him look like an uneducated idiot that can't even speak properly (which wasn't hard to do).
      Raisi was also removed from Isfahan's religious council. From the very beginning it was clear that Raisi will be blamed for decisions Khamenei makes. The only difference between Raisi and all other presidents was that Raisi couldn't speak out even after his presidency, because if he spoke out against Khamenei it would remove any changes of him becoming the next supreme leader.
      If Raisi didn't become president, he wouldn't have lost his credibility within the religious councils or the population.
      Thus because very obvious when the "Osolgara" or the hardliners started to indirectly amplify criticisms against Raisi instead of ignoring it, by having weak responses to against Raisi's criticisms on social media, and specifically IRGC telegram channels.

    • @shawnrocki
      @shawnrocki 8 дней назад +1

      @@alex_zetsu Also in addition to my last reply. I believe Jalili is Mojtaba Khamenei, given how close they are and how close he is to Khamenei, and Jalili's loyalty toojtaba. However, this way Jalili takes the blame till Khamenei dies. Given that all presidents in Iran have served 8 years, and the fact that Khamenei's doctors audio regarding Khamenei's health have leaked, and how his given so much drugs and meds just for when he gives a speech. Jalili aka Mojtaba would make sure Mojtaba is the successor. Which is why Ghalibaf aka IRGC could not take presidents, because of Ghalibaf because president IRGC would've had total control on the day that Khamenei dies, which would've flipped the power to IRGC.

    I think this is great, honestly. I hoped for low turnout, but mainly because I had no expectation of a reformist winning. Pezeshkian does not have any realistic chance of changing Iran's political direction if he is elected, but that will only further tension with the regime. If he pushes for reforms, he may fall out of favour with the regime and be punished, leading to outrage amongst the Iranian public. If he is successfully leashed by the regime from the get go, that will also outrage the public who will be given a clear signal that reform through elections is impossible.

      Pezeshkian is a puppet of the regime. Most 'reformists' are. It's as good as the 'other parties' in China and Russia. If anything, he'll merely be a farce to pretend that the regime may slowly effect change while it does nothing but continue to consolidate more power within and without its borders. People believed in Khatami and the 'reformists' at least a decade ago but have now more or less realized the farce. So this is a lame attempt and further shows how out of touch with the public these mullahs and their generals are.

      There’s no way the regime didn’t think there’s a good chance pezeshkian wins ! Every one active in iran politics from left to right know exaaaactly how not only pezeshkian is the most likely to won but also regime knows that !

      Again, this is not less popular than 2021 , it’s that now there’s a movement not to vote as opposed to how this same movement stayed very limitted

      Rouhani wasnt a reformist and the reformists have been more accused of trying to save the regime than feared to become face of another revolution

    I really do hope the best for them. I hope they get the freedoms they want and the US will end the saxtions so they can have the standard of life they deserve. It sucks when good people are harmed by things their governments do.

    It's an insult to Iranians to call regime-approved reformist candidates anything but loyalists. At least 70% of society are not represented in any candidate.
