    We live in Western Washington near the coast, and my dad just happened to be in Seattle for a rare business trip when this happened. He was in a tall skyscraper on the 80-something floor. When we found out that it was major in Seattle, we were panicked because we couldn't get a hold of him. Thanks God he was in a newer building that was built for quakes. He was totally fine.

      @@agquaproductions9361 yes, they are, and I'm so grateful that he and everyone else was fine. My dad always taught me that, in an emergency situation, or if something feels wrong, it's far better to look silly by taking precautions in front of others, than to ignore it and end up dead. I used this philosophy when I was working at a large department store and saw a WALL of people running toward the front exit. No sooner had my mind processed what I was seeing before someone yelled, "He's got a gun! He's got a gun!". I couldn't believe how unphased my coworkers were. It was as if nothing was happening at all. I basically said, 'fuck it' and ran as fast as I think I ever have, to the back of the store, toward the swinging doors that led to the warehouse area. People kept running up to me, just an employee, to find out what was going on (dude, I know about as much as you do!), and I yelled, "Just follow me! Run!". The area straight to the left of these doors was the Infants department, and I saw a young mother with her baby. I literally grabbed her by the arm and told her to run, NOW. She's asking what's going on, what's going on, but I couldn't stop and explain--I just said, "Just run. We're far away from him". She immediately starts screaming as we're running. I didn't know people actually screamed like they do in the movies during these types of situations, especially when they have no idea what's actually happening...but I will NEVER forget the screams of that wall of hundreds of people, and the young mother. Myself and a handful of customers ran into the back parking lot, and I took refuge behind a pickup truck. The worst part is that confused and scared customers kept coming up to me, giving away my location, to ask what to do! I finally just started telling them to shut up and hide. Apparently, a man who had been caught stealing was in the custody of asset protection, in their security room, and he suddenly decided he didn't want to wait around for the police to arrest him. He pulled a gun on one of our undercovers, and instead of retreating, the AP guy, who was a veteran, JUMPED on the thief with the gun, and began wrestling with him (I remember seeing the video of it years ago). Eventually the guy got out, drew his pistol, and started running through this massive crowd by the checkouts. The voice I heard was our badass AP guy, CHASING him, and he ran out the furthest exit from the office, terrorizing everyone in his wake. At the time, we had no idea if this was a mass shooter, and my coworkers were in the direct line of fire. Had it been an active shooting situation, they most certainly would have died, and I would have lived. Back to my dad:
      As soon as he realized they were having an earthquake, despite being in front of very important clients and business leaders, he told everyone to get under the desk. He said that most of them just sat there, looking around at each other, but he dove under the desk, nice suit and all, turned away from the windows, and held onto the leg of this sturdy desk until he was sure the quake was over, AND that there were no major aftershocks. Had the building fallen, they all would have died regardless, but most people who do die in earthquakes, die from falling debris from lights, ceilings, and shelves.

      I was driving for work, headed back to the warehouse just south of Seattle when this hit. As soon as I got back I called my mom in Illinois and told her we’d just had an earthquake but I was okay. I knew my family would be blowing up her phone asking if she’d heard from me, and I wanted to make sure they all knew I was fine.

      Glad to know that your father was safe. Still, that must've been really scary for you and your loved ones. I was on the topmost floor of my high school in my Math class when this happened. I STILL remember the feeling of the floor rocking back and forth as it continued (my high school was built in the early 80's, so it was made to withstand earthquakes). Nevertheless, in that moment, I thought that, that was the end for me and many, many other people. Fortunately, that wasn't the case, since only one person died during the earthquake, but from a heart attack (still very sad that happened). After the earthquake ended, we exited the high school and rendezvoused outside at the bleachers by the high school field. Eventually, we were told that we were allowed to go home. We got the day off from school the next day since they wanted to check for any damage to see if it was safe for us to return. The day after our day off, we had to go back (much to my utmost dismay, considering how much I hated high school, but I digress). That 6.8 was INTENSE.

      Oly! Oly! Oly! Yeah! I've lived there for probably 8 years, total. Although I moved a few times as a child, and grew up mostly in a smaller town, I'll always consider Olympia my true home base. It's a tragedy what's happened to it over the last couple years, with idiots completely destroying our beautiful capital city, and my alma mater (Evergreen) becoming an international embarrassment. But, I still love it, and have high hopes that it'll recover in a few years. These people who did this, only have enough guts to go after the cities that have supported and completely embraced them--extremely liberal places! Ungrateful, entitled degenerates. Oh well...I'm optimistic about the future of Olympia, Portland, and even Los Angeles and San Francisco. We can't afford to lose hope.

    I was 13 and at the public library when this hit. I was on the computer when I remember vividly a golden retriever service dog who seemed well behaved like they're usually trained to be, started whining and looked really nervous, started pulling back on his leash and kept turning left then right and would back up again. I remember thinking "aren't service dogs supposed to be better trained than that?" Even his owner asked the dog what he was doing lol Then within maybe 30 seconds, I saw books starting to fall off shelves, then it turned into shelves swaying hard all over the place so books were everywhere, the desks computers were on started flopping all over, monitors spazzed out and as soon as I started to head under the table, the women directly across from me on another computer who clearly was not messin around, just grabbed me up by the front of my hoodie, yelled "UNDER TABLE. NOW!" and pulled me with all she had over the desk toward her and chucked me under with her. Still makes me laugh 🤭 I sat there holding on to that table as I watched the long light fixtures swaying back and forth hoping they were held up by something strong because so many people weren't able to take cover and those suckers looked very big and heavy. I've never seen or felt anything like that before. I felt several when I was a kid as well as a couple in my adult life but that was crazy and we probably felt it hard due to the old building we were in. My mom who was on the other side of the library found me as soon as it stopped and she told me to speed walk to the car because we had to get over the bridge before they closed it off and she was so afraid of worse aftershocks. She hardly spoke on the way home. I heard later they of course closed the bridge down fast and friends of mine from junior high had to take the bus home but they all got stuck on the freeway going through another town in a different direction that they would never go through to get back home and they didn't get home until almost 7pm due to the traffic. Shesh.
    I worried about my animals the entire way home. They were fine but clocks and frames were thrown off the walls broken and they were so scared, poor babies 🥺

Talk about some crazy shit!I was in the University District during at the time at a record shop my friend was working at when the place began to shake we thought probably just a tremor then it got more intense. It sounded like a low flying jet went by before we felt the shaking. My father and grandfather both looked at each other and was like "earthquake" seconds after it started. I remember this. I was a young teen in middle school at the time. I was in home room and thought the guy behind me was shoving my desk forward. The last time I remembered an earthquake like that was The Northridge quake of ‘94. I was in 2nd grade at that time.

    I remember one time I was in Italy visiting some of my friends who live in Austria, when an earthquake it.
    Basically, we were eating dinner outside by the pool, when we heard a rumbling noise. We thought it was just a truck, so we didn't think much of it. However, soon the dishes began to rattle and waves began to form in the pool. This kept going for around 10 seconds, but then everything started shaking intensely, the pool water was sloshing all over the place and some clay tiles on the roof began to collapse. I then heard a shattering noise from inside the house and my parents came running out. Then it stopped. We luckily were fine but it was shaking on-and-off for the rest of the day due to aftershocks. Anyway, we slept outside that night because if we were asleep and the house collapsed we would be dead.

    I love how everyone is freaking out but in California this is a normal earthquake but i was 3 when this happened don’t remember it at all but I know where supposed to get a major earthquake at some time the Big one which should be vicious Asf this was a 6.8 where supposed to get a 9.5 on god 😂 it’s gonna be mighty but fuck it just stay safe and be prepared just hope to god your not driving or walking on a side walk

    • @GaryHind701
      @GaryHind701 4 года назад

      A M6.8 magnitude earthquake is not a frequent magnitude recorded in California, and when they do happen they are often pretty devastating events, why you say this seems like normal earthquake, because this 2001 Washington state quake was 33 miles deep underground which produces lower ground accelerations on the ground surface, most of California’s quakes occur within the top 10 miles of the Earth crust producing high ground shaking accelerations, for example the 1994 Northridge M6.7 earthquake was 11 miles deep and was a devastating earthquake!

    This is the same shaking you could expect during a Cascadia event, because the Cascadia 9.0 would be in the ocean,
    so Seattle would be feeling a 6.7 - 7.7
    and coastal areas would be feeling 7.9 - 8.8

    • @rebelfighter5249
      @rebelfighter5249 3 года назад

      Funny you mention that. I've got a feeling Cascadia's gonna wake up really soon and rip a massive 9.0 with a tsunami special. With all the earthquakes happening around the world, it's not a stretch to believe such an event could be imminent.

      @@rebelfighter5249 For some reason, in the last few months I literally feel like stuff is shaking every day. Maybe thats just my mind but it started a few months ago. Who knows if its small earthquakes, or Cascadia.

    I lived in Bremerton but worked in Seattle delivering transmission parts when this happened. I was driving on the 167 between Renton and Kent and it felt like someone grabbed my steering wheel and started yanking it back and forth. I noticed people around me were pulling over, and when I realized KISW was off the air I figured it had to have been a quake. The warehouse I worked out of was a shambles. I remember trying to figure out where I was going to stay because the ferries were shut down and the Narrows bridge was closed for inspection. I managed to make it beck to Bremerton later that evening when ferry service resumed after the tsunami threat had subsided.
