  • @andretim75
    @andretim75 24 дня назад +5

    One important aspect regarding the fight of these 4 on top.
    Of course there are the 2 who were 1st and 2nd today who will battle it out for the win , given they stay healthy and do not have a heavy crash.
    But regarding the pure performance one has to give Roglic a compliment when looking at his age compared to the other 3 ! That is totally overseen almost everywhere -- he is already 34 and so his time normally would be almost over to win agains such young guns --- and the regeneration time is very likely a bit longer already indeed! Taking this into account he does pretty impressively !

    Pogi had a solid lead to begin with and then risked a lot going when he did. None of his teammates could support him after that. I feel he could have waited to launch later. In some ways though, this is helpful for UAE as they now know what Jonas can do for this Tour.

    • @osfan25
      @osfan25 23 дня назад +1

      I was surprised when uae launched Pogi with 33km to go. His strength is his punch; why turn it into an extended effort, which plays into Jonas’ strengths. They could have 100% waited to the next climb and the bonus sprint. I don’t think Jonas would have attacked before that either because he’s been super cautious about getting countered on terrain that suits Pogi. These next two weeks are going to be really interesting to see if Jumbo has the horsepower to make the race hard enough to crack Pogi on long climbs.

    • @SEWK73

  • @jmsytbe
    @jmsytbe 24 дня назад +28

    While they'll obviously be ecstatic with the win, one major worry for Visma is that, yet again, it became clear that they basically have nothing in the mountains. Once UAE got serious, JV was isolated almost instantly. Even if JV's form in the 3rd week turns out to be great, it will be hard to take advantage without at least a Kuss level guy to help control the pace and launch him. They better hope that UAE doesn't go on the defensive, because they'll be super hard to put a dent in then.
    Plus, they might lose Wout now as well, since he went for a scan following his crash...

    • @epincion
      @epincion 24 дня назад +5

      It’s true that without Sepp and Roglic on another team VLB are devoid of a mountain domestiques but look on the bright side Jonas is doing hugely better than anybody thought and we can hope that Jorgensen rides into form since he clearly has great climbing ability and WVA who is playing the free agent at the moment will no doubt come to the party in the high mountains

    • @jmsytbe
      @jmsytbe 24 дня назад +6

      @@epincion I just hope that Wout stays in, since he seemed to be headed towards the medical van for a scan after the stage.
      Jorgensen is a great rider, but at this level of climbing I think he's still a bit in over his head.

    I do wish Pogi hadn’t told Remco that he need not see Rogla as a threat for the podium. Although Sporza presented this as simple encouragement it sounded more like a put-down behind someone’s back.
    Pogi may be right, factually, but we still haven’t seen Remco in the real mountains. He’s looking very well prepared so far, but he will be tested like he’s never been before.
    Visma said they consider the top four spots to be in the game still. Maybe they’re just being polite to their old King, but they’ve generally proven better able to assess their competition than the rest, and they know Rogla far better than Pogi does.

    So then why are UAE making the race hard when Pog has the lead? They should be riding as easy as possible so it is an easy race and making Visma make it hard and then be there to close JV when he attacks while Pog is in the draft.

      Yes I agree, there was absolutely no need for UAE to attack the stage like that, and no need for Pogacar to attack like that, all it led to is huge unnecessary energy expenditure for the whole team, before still huge mountains stages. A bit strange, though I think Patrick's concern that riders will fake mechanicals if they think they'll be gapped in the sprint is unproven. Why throw away potential bonuses *and* risk the UCI arbitrarily claiming it wasn't a mechanical just to start your cooldown a few minutes early? I suppose if the bonuses aren't in play and have just enough left to get to 3k to go they could pull off and wait for a bike change, or something, but given the optics for Remco in the past, it doesn't seem worth it.

      Sorry, Jonas is 110%. No way he would be on the tour with less.
      One more thing, the teams know the shape of each rider. Look at Froome post accident. Relegated to pseudo domestique on Sky.
      Then almost sacked....

    I'm against 3km rule in gc stages like this in 99% cases. But this time it was a very dangerous descent and pretty flat sprint so i would say it is ok.
    I think organizers predict that random crash like this Roglic one may happened and they were right.

    Most got this wrong. Pogi has a strong team and this stage provides an opportunity to attack, to test his main rivals. He did gain 30+ seconds on his 2 main rivals but Jonas apparently was surprisingly strong. But Pogi didn't lose anything and still kept the almost same lead.
    The result is better than if UAE just let the breakaway go. Now UAE can just focus on Jonas and adjust their plan.

This was a horrible result for them today considering their efforts. And I mean fucking horrible!! And visma and Jonas will be giving high fives all night because that was miraculous for them. UAE need a very honest conversation and resolution quick

    Sorry Benji but the idea of Jonas being favorite to win is fanciful. Weaker team and a messed up preparation is the perfect recipe for a week three capitulation. He looks great now but Pogacar looked good last year too and we saw how that panned out. There's no substitute for training volume.
    Could Jonas win? Absolutely but I wouldn't put a penny on it personally.

Doesn't matter you are a leader or not. That's how you learn to be a great leader. Humility. Just see how MVP works for leadout for his teammate.

    I’m getting tired of Jonas’s false humility. (Reminds me of Froome a bit) Every interview is “oh my gosh, I didn’t think I was going to make it. I can’t believe I had the legs to win. Etc.“
    Just once I wish he would say something like “I’m in the form of my life. Turns out, the crash didn’t affect me as much as people thought it did. I’m going to carve decades of time in the mountains because I’m going to kill everyone.”
    Similarly, I wish Pog would be honest and say something like “I’m terrified of Jonas. I was hoping to be 5 minutes ahead at this point. I’m cooked.”
