With all the Hurricanes happening in FLorida our plans may be changing for us to stay at our property this winter. So we need to get ready for another winter on the mountain.

Hi! We're Nick and Jen, a retired military veteran of 14 years and professional dancer/entertainer at Coyote Ugly Bar. I would recommend changing the oil in your generator at least once a year, even if you have only put low hours on it, the additives in the oil breakdown over time, and it is cheap insurance to keep your engine happy and healthy :) If you have never changed it yet in 3 years, I would highly recommend doing it now, to get that break in oil out and some fresh stuff in there.

Loved the music today. I wanted to tell you what we did to keep from losing our chickens to wild critters. The first couple of times we tried to have some here, Racoons got them. Then we put timers on the doors to their coops where they roost at night. The timers close the door after they go in to roost at dusk and keeps the door closed until just before sun up when the chickens are ready to come out for the day. After we did this, no deaths from critters. This might work for you guys as well.

Just a thought, you should build a mound on the opposite side of your water tanks so you can pull your truck and trailer above the height of the water tanks and use four hoses to drain them gravity to four tanks. Your process will be extremely fast and you can do more loads.
Thanks for sharing your day, appreciate the different content. Winter is still a little bit away for you (it will be my summer) so you will have time to decide if you go to Florida or somewhere else. Just keep in mind, these communities will be rebuilding and will need tourism to do so. As you will have your own accommodation, it maybe easier. Reassess closer to the time.

I think you guys will be fine keeping your Florida winter plans as long as you avoid the Siesta Key area and the eastern panhandle. We have about 3 1/2 weeks until Hurricane season is over. Everywhere on the East coast will be ok
I would strongly recommend changing the oil in your generator at least once a year, even if you've only put a few hours on it. The additives in the oil break down over time, and a simple oil change is such a small price to pay to keep your engine running smoothly and reliably. 😊 If you haven’t changed it in the past three years, now is definitely the time! Getting that old break-in oil out and some fresh new oil in will help ensure your generator stays in tip-top shape for years to come. It’s just a little effort for a lot of peace of mind!

The aluminum on the solar panels contacts and expands from the heat. That’s why the screws get loose.
As hard as you guys work i am suppressed that you don't drink Beer at the minimum to reward you, I just loaded my Denali HD with a load to the dump in the am and i am having a Sierra Nevada it 3:45 in California Northern

I am just 16 miles outside Fort Myers Florida, we took a serious hit from both hurricanes. I have never seen so many tornadoes in one day, this was crazy. I had roof damage, but people I know much worst happened to them.

Hi Nick and Jen. This was an enjoyable video and I liked dropping in to hang out with you as you began your winter prep work. Buba and Rickie are getting big and I always like seeing what they are up to. They sure like visiting those horses. Larry seems to be up there pretty frequently and I was wondering why he was grading. Does he live in the area? Is your area an organized community of sorts with certralized services for all the property owners? You may have mentioned that in previous videos and I simply forgot. If so, I apologize for the inconvenience. I look forward for work to begin in the your large shop/garage area and getting the lift etc installed down the road. I also live Bellevue FL and lived thru some damn weather. But like I said last year. Put up gutters to catch rain to go into your water/snow tanks. Help you out on those trip down that little old hill.

I live in central FL and have just ridden out the storms, especially when storms this late in the season ….. clean ups will be months and it may have another storm this season one down after 12/01/2024 the Eason will be over.

you should look into buying one of them Use water tank trucks.. ask HeavyDsparks if they got any leadway for it.. so you won' t have to haul as much to fill.

We change our oil ever year
My house is ok but the roads are flooded. It’s a mess. A lot of resident lost carports and house part. It’s sad.
It seems like off grid work is never done. You two are always doing something. A question for you, does your water storage tanks ever freeze In the winter time?

LOL on the Power stroke. I bought a brand new 97 F-350 4x4 cc...it was a good truck once I built a trans for it. If your Ford has the joint venture 10 speed in it that GM and Ford worked on together and it is "Allison Approved' in the GM trucks, be careful with that thing....they are having a lot pf problems with them regarding improper shifting Friend owns a trans shop...GM is trying to ignore the problem and hope it will go away. They all have problems these days. Too many computers and BS emissions stuff.
About 5 years ago I found a 2007 Dodge ram 3500 Cummins with a six speed...4x4 and crew cab, long bed dually...it had 31k on the clock, one owner. Always garaged, meticulous service records.
I grabbed it. Did a little work on it. It is making about 380 HP now and tows my 18k 5er toyhauler fine. I love the new big HP trucks but they are just over the top complex, and too much $ for my cheap self.

A few comments just because I love talking to you guys. One thing is that I noticed the solar panels are partly in the shade because you have the soon to be firewood blocking the rays. :-) (Of course you are there and I have no idea to what extent it blocks the sun throughout the year) The other thing is that although this is one of my favorite You Tube channels, for the life of me I can't see how you convert your living off grid building construction channel into a visit Florida and watch the kids playing channel. That is unless you got a place down there and did more of the same as in building, creating, loving, and meeting challenges. Keep up the great work.

I have been meaning to ask , are you able to dig for a well on your property. If so the cost? or your not permitted to do so.
My neighbor, about 100 acres away from me in rural Montana, is having a well dug this week. At 500’ the company charges $40,000, they’re now at 900’ and still drilling… how do people afford this nonsense these days…

I think you are safer where you are. Use the money you were going to spend on travel/rental expenses and gravel the worst part of your roads.
