I said this already when rdr1 came out: a full fledged documentary on the dev process would be so interessting, how the music, the map are conceived, the interaction with the horses, historical researches etc.
@@davidgabriel5125 I do like how their marketing isn’t super inflated. They do what? Like a few cinematic trailers with actual in-game footage, a couple of narrated gameplay videos, and that’s it. They’re one of the few developers that still have insane brand confidence and don’t spoil everything before the game’s out. I’ve played every game of theirs since RDR1 and each one was an event.
Roger was the perfect choice for Arthur. He arguably wouldnt have been such a great character without Roger. Absolutely beautiful, legendary, lasting performance. Arthur made a huge impact on who i aim to be as a man. Arthur is one of the most selfless characters ive ever encountered.
There are many great actors out there that have lent their voices and their motion capture to video games. I can’t imagine any of them being Arthur. Only Roger.
Honestly the way Clarke said that, with the producers asking you to crouch walk, strafe, hide in cover, sounds really fun even if it’s only an audition
it's really uncanny seeing him do the examples for the performative capture because obviously he walks and moves exactly like Arthur does in game, it's just so weird seeing it irl.
I have to laugh thinking about the horse animations capture. "Hey, horse trainer, glad to see ya. So today we're doing mocap on how horse's balls shrink in cold temperatures." "You're what?" "Yeah! Shrinkage. So we're going to stick Chief here into a freezer --"
my friend has a farm and its full of horses and they even give riding lessons to some close people, he was really surprised at how accurate the horse animation was, and he told me its even better than movies with real horses because the horses they pick were usually very docile and well trained and tamed, in RDR2 he said horses really animate like wild horses
I think the writing and voice acting in Red Dead 2 is basically the best , of any game ever made. I really do play games for the story, and what they created with this game is a masterwork, and I’m not sure anyone will ever be able to top it, even when the eventually make RDR3…
If you look at his filmography on Wikipedia, he has only made ONE movie that isn't a homemade short, and that got 29% on RT ! You'd think he'd be a successful mainstream actor by now.
Imagine if Bethesda said "Lets secretely look at RDR2 and make it in space but with intricate storytelling and adventures" Nah just throw in the procedural AI stuff and call it a day.
If I were the voice actor for Arthur Morgan, I'd never pay my own bar tab for the rest of my life. I get tee shirts made with " I'm the voice of Arthur Morgan".
another example of how rockstar sucks ass. how could you not fill BTS footage of one of the most important and best selling video games ever made? shoutout to Cory Barlog and his team for actually filming GOW start to finish, and having one of the most deep documentaries on what game development is like ive ever had the pleasure to watch. its sad Rockstar is so closeted and secretive that they dont do this crap
rockstar is usually very strict when it comes to security measures. other filming companies usually do the BTS footage, and i don’t think rockstar was too keen on having a bunch of randoms filming in their offices with the chance that leaks could occur
@@MaryLab2930 that's entirely their problem. Other studios manage to record BTS without it leaking just fine. If it's such a concern, you do the filming in house. There are people with actual cinematic experience on these dev teams. Point is,if they really wanted to, they would.
@@MrFlamethrower32 rockstar releases the biggest games of the year, and all of their resources and team members are utilized for those games. if even red dead online devs are gone now too to go and work on gta vi, i don’t think they would’ve dedicated time to film in house.
As big as the game is, I wonder how long the development of the horses was. He said 2 weeks for mo cap but actually making it in game functional must of took close to 6months I bet just that aspect of the game alone
I love the fact that they had to have him in cowboy boots in order to accurately gauge his movement
You definitely have a different swagger when you're wearing boots.
I said this already when rdr1 came out: a full fledged documentary on the dev process would be so interessting, how the music, the map are conceived, the interaction with the horses, historical researches etc.

Roger was the best for this role! One of the best decisions in the gaming history about casting the right actor!

@@partycrashers22 Not sure.. But, I think he mostly played in movies than in games in his career. :)
The one thing rockstar ALWAYS got right was get the right actors. Right voice. Thank you rockstar.
