- Preceded by a brief chat with Donnie Simpson, this is Barbara performing the Michael Bolton-penned ballad "Where Can You Run," which was the fourth and final single from her solo debut album. From a Valentine's Day special on Video Soul. The song was produced by Wayne Lewis of Atlantic Starr. Barbara is a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, and sang lead on many of Atlantic Starr's biggest hits, including "Secret Lovers," "Always," "If Your Heart Isn't in It," and "Silver Shadow."

After watching Unsung, the story of Atlantic Starr, I am still very mad at the Lewis Brothers, particularly David Lewis for their treatment of her.......It was so unfortunate that left AS, but she did the right thing, in my opinion.

2 things I thought were peculiar back then:
1) mic problems.

Wow she didn't age and looks the same as she did in the Secret Lovers video from 1986. Phenomenal voice.
I love Barbara's voice. I also learned that she trained classically, IIRC.
Countess Vaughn re-recorded 'Where Can You Run' but the title was changed to 'Unconditionally' and some of the lyrics were changed. It was on her debut and only record in 1992.
@Vincent50 She also did a second album, which was only released in Japan. But I recommend it. It's called 'Seeing for the Very First Time'! And I agree about the magic being somewhat lost after her departure. Although I will say there were some very solid tunes on the 'Love Crazy' album, the overall "group dynamic" was not the same.

She was always my fav female artist in Atlantic Star, so beautiful with talent to match. Watch what happens at 2:29 LMBO!!! I know she's thinking "Danm BET yall need to get the audio in order before I sing....Damn!" This was actually when BET had value hence the messed up audio which became BET's signature at one point...until VIACOM bought them then the audio/production improved...sad sad sad.

@@DDot-im3jr yes. I saw the Tavares brothers in concert many times in Boston. Lots of folks from Cape Verde around Mass and RI. So many talented Cape Verdean’, Cesaria Evora. Rip. Sings awesomely. Especially when she sings. Besame Mucho. She looks a little like Free but Barbara is much more beautiful even though Free is beautiful in her own right.
