Thanks for pointing out that the "New" Vaughan Williams edition is basically the same as the old one. That will be helpful for most collectors. I have the "old" edition and it has served me well for many years. The content is comprehensive and the performances, by and large, very satisfying. If any of your viewers are reading this, I strongly recommend either edition and hope that this greatest of English composers will receive the exposure, via recording, he deserves. Three big sets are now in the pipeline and might make for interesting reviews: A new Ansermet stereo edition, a comprehensive Michel Corboz box, and the complete EMI recordings of Walter Gieseking.
Dear Dave, Thanks for getting back to me about the RVW Collector's Edition. I was sure that the Warner Classics would re-package the set. (I miss the old EMI imprint, but...) In my earlier comment I notice that, despite my normally impeccable proofreading the word appraisal became some foreign word, due to the 'a' and 's' being side by side on the keyboard. (The gremlins do get around, don't they?) Thanks again. Baltimore RVW Society member.
The horrible woman lamenting 😂 is a painting of the English painter William Langley. I knew that you were dying to learn more details about the CD jacket 😂. Take care David and thank you for your review.
Thanks so much for this. I’ve wanted to dive into the Vaughn Williams catalog for a long time. Boxes like this allow for a deep plunge. Knowing it’s “Hurwitz Approved” makes it easier to spend the $s
Excellent, as usual - have you been following/collecting the ongoing Vaughan Williams series on Albion sponsored by the Vaughan Williams Society? I have and would be very interested in your thoughts…
Emi’s got Previn and Boult in its catalogue and why select for this box the Handley’s traversal of the symphonies? Both Previn and Boult are light years better!

No reconstruction of the sketches for "Rhapsody on 'Ode to a Toad'"? Major oversight, Warner! Also, Happy 150th Birthday, RVW (three days ago).
Happy 150th Ralph Vaughan Williams!
Thanks Dave - since I know little about Vaughn Williams my favorite part of this review was when you talked about the pieces themselves. 😊

Told me all I needed to know after 3m55s - thank you, as I've been having palpitations about this 'new' collection since yesterday.
As you say: this is essentially a re-isssue, which is nice for those who missed it the first time around. Good on them for going with Handley again.

I know. Will you please let me have some fun?
@@DavesClassicalGuide Of course my friend, as much as you want.

Some of it. I hadn't thought to discuss it. Let me think about it.
Great!
You can find reviews of three of the releases over at ClassicsToday.com.
Great, thank you…@@DavesClassicalGuide
Dave what do think of that Warner Vaughan Williams Complete EMI Recordings box set ? The just Symphony box is no longer available
Huh?
@@DavesClassicalGuide Sorry it’s called the Sir Adrian Boult…the Vaughan Williams Complete EMI Recordings… any good ?
@@Warp75 Of course it's good.

No, RCA has Previn, not EMI, and the Handley set is very good.
@@DavesClassicalGuide yes, forgive me, Previn is recorded by rca
What about "Job". Did I miss that? I use to have a very good recording of that.

Sounds like I'll remain a perfectly satisfied owner of the *old* edition.
Me too. It's one of the best CD sets I own.
Mine arrived yesterday, I paid about £30 for it new.
