Thank you both for this tour. We will be new to NCL in Jan 2023 out of NOLA, and since it's the Breakaway we are glad your video came up in the search. We were nose to nose with the Breakaway in 2017 in Bermuda aboard the Summit. We have subscribed and will be eagerly viewing many of your vlogs in the days to come. Sky Princess is first, if indeed it actually happens this March, but looking way out to that NCL cruise regardless. Be well !!

Thank you. I was looking for a current review of this ship as we have a booking on this ship in October 2020. We have not been on cruise ships much, but it looks like a significant difference in needing to schedule shows and activities in advance on Norwegian compared to our experience with Royal Caribbean.

We're sailing on the Breakaway soon. The reason we booked it was the 100% vaccinated ship. I truly think the industry needs to do this as a whole so they are able to get more people on board and safely to help the cruise industry. If you look at the stats, the ships that are fully vaccinated have MUCH fewer cases than ones which are only 95% vaccinated.

Cruised once on Breakaway for a week, loved the Ice Bar novelty, would do it again with the right stops and excursions. Ship is cool, but loved finding escape spaces away from crowds.
Thermal spa pass is worth it for this reason.

@@TravelingFlamingo I have a question. You noted about the cigarette smoke on your video. The big 2023 Cruise Vloggers event is on the NCL breakaway. Do you think if I carried a mask with me (like we all do now haha) to get thru the smoky areas, are there still plenty of places at the main pools, MDR, etc to enjoy myself in a mostly smoke free environment?

4000 passengers plus crew of over 1000 I was on the Breakaway in 2018 with my brother and we totally enjoyed the 7 days. We had the 4 day specialty dinning and used one for the big top Cirque Dreams jungle fantasy! It is like a dinner with a great show and worth the upcharge as my brother did not want the shrimp with his meal and they gave him 2 filet mignon! The show actors were very friendly and funny and talented! I wish they would bring back Rock of ages and burn the floor!

Good review. I'm glad you mentioned the smoking in the casino. My mom has COPD so would not have been able to enjoy the casino if we chose this ship. You saved my mom from having a ruined cruise.
Its so important to know where and what cruise lines have lots of smoking. I (Linda) have an allergy to smoke so it really sticks out to us, nor are neither of us smokers (for our own personal reasons) but you can definitely tell when there is/whas/could be smoking in certain places. I am actuallly planning a trip for the fam for next year and this helps a whole ton. With Covid going on, the costs are a must-not-ignore type of deal, almost $700 per person for ocean view balcony which is crazy cheap compared to other cruises. Highly considering this one.

@@charlescho it has to be the right ships though. I’ve been on a P&O and didn’t enjoy that because of the formalness. Norwegian are great though I have found but everyone is different and it depends on age group I find
Teppanyaki is always great. We dined there on both the Bliss and the Encore. Great food and well worth the upcharge. Even better if you buy a dining plan for multiple restaurants.
Taziar Travel you have absolutely convinced me to try Tappanyaki on our next trip. I also agree, if our trip is longer then 5/6 days I would buy the dinning plan.
@@TravelingFlamingo I ate at the Teppanyaki on the Pearl, was great. I'm surprised that you said the food at the included restaurants wasn't that great... I loved the food on the Pearl, both the buffet, the main DRs, and the speciality restaurants were all fantastic.

Taziar Travel It was ok. I didn’t Eat most of the food on the menu. The rice was awesome tho! Had 2 bowls of that. I didn’t care for the desserts.. green tea ice cream isn’t my cup of tea. Lol really enjoyed watching them cook. My mom complained the most but she does that allot anyway.
We did Tappanyaki on the Joy. Fun for families and we had a dining package so no upcharge.
It is definitely a fun evening out. I haven’t been in years and would like to go again.
We went to 4 of the specialty restaurants on our cruise and Teppanyaki and Cagney were our favorites. We had a blast in Teppanyaki mainly because of our chef, he had us amazed and laughing the whole time.
We also enjoyed the specialty dining. I've have only heard good things about Tappanyaki, I'm definitely going there next time. Thanks for watching and commenting

Have been on the Escape twice...next cruise will be Breakaway. I found a quiet location can be found on top forward deck...there is a wind break but few venture to this location. Great spot relax in the sun away from crowds.

We enjoyed the Breakaway, the breakfast buffet was the best, resturant service was slow but food was decent.
I am a huge breakfast person :) we tried a few of their different locations that offered breakfast. I appreciated all the fresh fruit too

It will be interesting to compare Cunard Queen Mary with this cruise. Or even Carnival. I enjoy a cruise but not a fan of having to pay any extra.
Great tour and nice work! Question; as someone who has never been on a cruise but looking to do so in the near future, how do the drinks work? I would love to sit on that balcony and enjoy some fine adult beverages with the wife but from what i read online you cannot bring your own booze on board and i would like to avoid going back and forth to the bar for another beer. I read the duty free on board keeps the stuff until after you debark. What are my options? Room service to enjoy the balcony with a cold one? Any help would be greatly appreciated
Hi Brian, definitely agree a nice bevy on the balcony is amazing. You can bring wine on board which may not be everyone's cup of tea but yes, all other alcohol is held (duty free, etc...) and you're not allowed to bring your own liquor on board. You can order bottles of alcohol from the cruise line to enjoy in your room, you can also get drinks delivered via room service with most cruise lines.
What are the extras that are free vs paid. Like ropes coarse etc.
what are the glass dividers up on the top deck for? my thought would be to break up the wind. or stop people from running as they have loop round the dividers.
Wind generally but also to ensure people can't "fall" over them out on open decks. You're seeing more and more of it on newer ships which is unfortunate but I'd say both safety and also blocking out the wind. Hope that helps Nick! Happy Travels 🦩
Margaritaville is gone now with something called American bar I think! Wish NCL could post menus online for the Specialty dining restaurants at least!

I noticed Jimmy Buffetts margaritaville listed on deck 16 but its not on the current listing for the Breakaway. Do you know what happened?
They brand deal with Margaritaville expired and they rebranded it to the American Diner (for now). I believe its now off all NCL ships. Hope that helps Brandon! Happy Travels 🦩
Does anyone know why the deck plans only show down to deck 5? What’s 1-4?
Thanks for the tour. It would be nice if you detailed the dress code you were talking about that was a big deal and affected many people on this ship. This is what I found on NCL's website but not sure what is actually enforced on the Breakaway.
"Dress smart casual in our more formal dining room or in our more upscale specialty restaurants. For women, it includes slacks or jeans, dresses, skirts and tops. For men, it's jeans or slacks with a collared shirt and closed-toed shoes. Kids 12 and under are welcome to wear nice shorts in all our restaurants."
Also you mentioned you could get reservations for seats in the theater. Is that true or do you just get a reservation to enter and it is open seating once you are in there?
Great questions. I think what confused people was that men could wear shorts in all dining rooms but one. The Manhattan room was the only one that required long pants for men. So many guys wear golf attire with khaki shorts and were sent to get long pants.
To clarify the theatre reservations you reserve a show time but don’t reserve a specific seat. They were checking when you entered the theatre to ensure you had a reservation.

We enjoyed your tour. You should do yourself a favor and sail in "Haven" fashion. All of the upcharged dining, activities and entertainment that you mention are all covered in the Haven. Doing the math, certainly, you cannot sail two seperate cruises with all of the "Extras" that you paid without sailing the Haven way. I've sailed multiple times the other way and, in my opinion, Cruises were meant to be experienced the way that the Haven offers. Really enjoyed your video. Very professionally done and extremely informative! Love that camera that you were using.
I am a hard no on Teppanyaki. The room feels too close and noisy. Because of cruise ship no fire tricks can be done. Go to a local at home and use your dinner dollars at Cagney's or la Bistro.

Sailed the Breakaway again in Sept and I still enjoy the ship. Food in the MDR was ok (much better than on the Getaway, but nowhere near as good as the Escape and Bliss), but where it really failed was in the buffet... quality was acceptable but selection was awful! Very little selection and same stuff every day. Upsell dining at Tappenyaki was great as usual.
Sadly for the first time in 30+ cruises, my stateroom attendant did not do a very good job. Dirty glasses and dishes not taken away, dirty bathroom glass not replaced, bed poorly made, having to ask for towels... I don't know if he was having a bad week but I was disappointed.
I'm sailing the Breakaway again next week, I booked a last minute 11 nights east & west Caribbean sailing a few days ago (super cheap!)
We have heard great things about. Teppanyaki and have added it to our must do list on our next NCL cruise.

We did the Teppanyaki on the Dawn 3 years ago and it was good food and fun but like the Italian and steakhouse restaurants better.
Glock2201 good to know the steakhouse is better so we don’t get our hopes too high for teppanyaki. We really liked the steakhouse too
@@TravelingFlamingo That is our opinions only. I think everybody needs to find out what they like best. The Teppanyaki was fun and different but I love a great steak and my wife loves the Italian restaurant. Who knows you might like the Teppanyaki better.
Do you remember if Breakaway have steam room and sauna room for free of charge?
There was not one included. You would have to purchase a pass to the thermal spa.
Would you recommend this ship for a honeymoon? We are looking for a mixture of fun and relaxation, both early 30s. We are looking at a 9 day ABC itinerary.
Congratulations on your engagement ❤️ There is definitely an opportunity for both fun and relaxation. Depending on your budget I would get the thermal spa package or the Haven to ensure you get relaxation time. With NCL just be prepared that lots of things are an additional charge.

is this ship like the norwegian escape?
Very very similar basically the escape has 1 extra floor of staterooms but the other areas are the same. Getaway is also very very similar. They are sisters.
Are the pools freshwater or saltwater?
The pool was salt water on the NCL Breakaway

Any place to get Mexican food or sea food?
There are definitely places to get Mexican food onboard but there isn't a specific Mexican restaurant unfortunately so its a bit spotty depending on what restaurant you go to. Hope that helps Barb Ellis! 🦩
Went on the Breakaway in May 2019. Awesome ship and staff....however.......plenty of negatives as well.
We also found the staff were amazing! What were some of the things you didn’t like?
All of the bars were incredibly under-staffed. We had the drink package (as do most) so getting a drink was an act of congress!!! Also the ports of call were very poor. No Lido deck or large outside area. Food was the best I ever had though!

They do, I'm not sure if its available in the fountain drink system or if its only at the bars but there is Mountain Dew.

Sandie Latendress what do you mean by system? The company is Pepsi and when you want a drink you go to a bar or restaurant. The buffet is only water, tea, coffee and limited juices. Thanks for watching and commenting :)
Looks nice overall , not a fan of such a huge ship , started cruising in the 90s with NCL been on about 30,we found Celebrity and Seaborne as well as Holland and cunard to be a nicer experience
