    we went on the Breakaway Jan 2019 and had a balcony cabin, we absolutely loved it! I know there were kids onboard, but seriously we never noticed them. the dining and bars were fanstatic, shows and nightlife brilliant and we felt really well looked after. we ate outside when we could and the free at sea suited as completely, and the free for all was great.
    loved it so much we're booked for new year 2022, but now looking at the Prima

    You didn’t mention that they have the Solo cabins and Solo Lounge. Wonderful for a single traveler. There was a crew member to hold evening get together who escorted a group of us to dinner each evening. I loved it, and this alone would keep me cruising with NCL.

      can you tell me a little more about solo cabins/solo lounge, and what this statement means: There was a crew member to hold evening get together who escorted a group of us to dinner each evening. ... i don't really understand what you are saying here...i'm going to be solo and i'm just wondering....thanks in advance :-)

    • @TravelingFlamingo
      @TravelingFlamingo  4 года назад +8

      The Solo cabins are smaller rooms that fit a single guest. Usually on a cruise ship you pay for a cabin based on "double occupancy" so lets say its $1000 per person, then you MUST pay $2000. Even if you are traveling alone. The Solo cabins allow for single travellers to get their own rooms, not have to share and spend less money.
      There is also a specific lounge area just for solo travellers as well, here is some information from the Norwegian Cruise Line website: www.ncl.com/ca/en/why-cruise-norwegian/cruise-accommodations/studios. Hope that helps clarify!

      @Brian tipping should be EARNED for a good job not forced or demanded. Do some research about how tipping 1st started. Tipping has evolved into something it should never had. Also on the cruise lines you pay up front for gratuity then you are expected to tip more after the fact on top of it. That's called double dipping.

    In addition for the solo cruisers, NCL often has the Solo promos where you only pay for the one bed per cabin. Once I started sailing with NCL I have become an NCL only cruiser and have now done 23 sailings with them. I flat out refuse to pay for two. And currently they have several 5 day sailings for only ninetynine per guest.

    I’m 21 and I sailed the pearl to costa maya and Belize and had the time of my life. I paid for it myself and it was affordably priced. The premium beverage package meant all my alcoholic drinks were included. I would recommend Norwegian highly to anyone and have to my friends and family. Food and service were great and I never got bored. If I cruise again it will be with Norwegian.

      I think you should be fine, it may be a bit nosier if you are under Sid Normans Pour House as they do some late night music in there but even then they really have insulated the walls and roof well you can't hear too much from even outside of the venue.
      Other than that there isn't very much that's loud on Deck 8 or Deck 10 so you should be fine. Enjoy your cruise!

    Thank you for the info. Im cruising with NCL for the frist time going to Asia. I found lots of info I did not Know about NCL Like the up grade. The reason it was important to me is that I always cruise in a balcony. I was unable to book a balcony this time it was very expensive for the three of us on a 14 day cruise. I stoped the video and called NCl traval consulrant about it and he explained it to me sooo thank you for that Ill be biding when the time comes for an up grade thanks to this video.

    Great video. I was just on the breakaway in a spa mini suite. Loved the ship and the thermal spa. The waterfront was my favorite hangout. Very quiet and great bar service. With the regard to free at sea you can get at least one free at sea with inside staterooms and ocean view! You lucked out on the spa mini suite! I bid on a Haven spa suite and was rejected! Just booked NCL Star for a 9 day Southern Caribbean in March 2020. May book the Sky for a weekend cruise in June. Both ships are much smaller and beautifully renovated in 2018 (Star) and 2019 (Sky). No Haven suites on these 2 ships but the “Penthouse “ rooms have butler service and the owners suites and penthouses can have huge outdoor decks with a hot tub! FYI, due to complaints about the smoke in the casino, NCL enclosed an area in the casino on the Breakaway Plus class ships (Escape, Bliss, Joy, Encore).

      Will be taking a cruise on the breakaway next Feb. I’ve only cruised once and it was carnival. From what I’ve heard ncl is better.. but as I book our trip I’m noticing a lot of extras that weren’t on carnival (yes I know not all cruise lines are the same). I’m having a hard time seeing that ncl is a better cruise line. For example and this is a huge issue they don’t offer bottle water in your drink package. You have to pay a huge fee to one of the adults bars. Many other things. Have you ever cruised with another company? Just curious as to why ncl is top notch in your book. What sets them apart from the others.

    Very well explained. I like that bidding thing. We are Canadian too, and have been on 20 cruises now. Next one is booked for Jan 27. Looking at early to mid feb 2020 out of port can. Cannot make up my mind. But I was on the NOR once the sky. Not a fan. But maybe, the sun? That goes out in FEb of 2020. We always pay tips ahead of time, and my sign and sail card is just the tips baby, last cruise a dude told me he removed his tips. He was American. I am like that is 30 per cent more for us and I cant add to them, but not touching them. The staff work so hard. I think with NOR it can be very confusing with the different offers. But I like the idea of customizing. For ex. we like the serenity deck on carnival, but this spa deck sounds interesting. We like the private islands. We got to GSC on the sky. Lovely island. Well, sorry for overshare, but great channel. Really enjoyed your info.

      Royal Carribean Navigator 5nts. balcony. and our first time with Carnival sensation then years later, got a great deal on sensation, bunk room but the cabin steward brought in a cot. odd room, modified yet a bunk bed. All cruises that go right up to a beach. Last year got to go to the Bahamas Atlantis. (the taxi drivers are not as in your face as they use to be). And the one with the 80s show with a prince song, and the one with elvis impersonator, that is the one. We accidentally were sitting in a private show, and all of a sudden this great Elvis impersonator came on. It was the best. It was Carnival. Not sure which ship. That is my fave.

    We have been cruising about once a year for the last 25 years. We went on a Norwegian cruise on the Encore for the first time in December. That cruise was the first and last time we will cruise with Norwegian. There were more places where you had to pay to eat than there places with no charge. You have to pay for to many activities that we have done for free on other ships, my wife wanted to attend a painting class but it was $38 on this ship. The go carts were $15 for 8 minutes. • @TravelingFlamingo
      @TravelingFlamingo  4 года назад

      If you didn't pre-purchase the gratuity that's added on (usually 100-300 per person) but then you don HAVE TO tip on board (you can add a little to recognize people for great service). If you pick any of the speciality restaurants then you will pay for those as well. If you plan on eating at these there is an "Unlimited Dining Package" which could help control costs (www.ncl.com/ca/en/onboard-packages/dining-packages). Excursions (if you didn't pre-book them) will also be on your account and lastly if you got a beverage package, likely the gratuities on that will also be on your bill ~$14/per person per day, that is also the case even if you have the FREE Unlimited Drinks Package).
      Hope that clarifies!

      dla0620 I don’t mind the bigger ships. They usually offer more. I’m surprised to here there is a lot of wasted space on the Bliss. Maybe the will change that with their next refurbishment.

    We were on Breakaway in May 2019; best food ever and the staff was simply amazing! On the downside, the "Unlimited drink package" is difficult to take advantage of when every bar has only one bartender.....very frustrating!!! Ship was super clean and beautiful, but has no Lido deck, very disappointing!

      Joe Michaels just booked the joy for March and the drink package been on 3-4 cruises before always smuggled because of the cost so I will be disappointed if I have to fight to get a drink @ $100 a day

    You mentioned booking excursions with the locals -- one caution on this is -- if you book with the cruise line and your excursion is late, they will wait for the excursion participants before sailing. If you book with a local and your excursion is late getting back to the ship, there is a possibility of you being left behind and finding your own transportation to the next stop

    If you have smoke issues, stick with the Encore, Bliss or Joy as their casinos have closed in smoking areas. Much better.
