Queen By Birth, I just did a “Booze Cruise” for my Sister in Laws B-Day, Long Beach to Ensenada, 3 days. First time on a cruise. I thought the same thing when I was reading the drink package literature. You are limited to 15 drinks a day on the package. They had to make the rule...can you imagine the drunken idiots who can put down MORE than 15 drinks in 1 day. The wife and I decided that “Alaska” type of cruises are probably more to our taste.

At 5 am, they noticed there was going to be the better parts of 3 fifths leftover, which they dibs breakfast, lunch and dinner. All 3 were consumed by 3 am the next morning. A tip I learned recently to help you not forget to clear out your safe: After you've packed for your final disembarkation and you have set aside what you are going to wear, put one of your shoes in the safe. You will need the shoe to be fully dressed and leave your cruise vacation, thus forcing you to open the safe on your final morning.

      @mag9ca 4 года назад +27

I do the same at hotels. I hang up my towels and straighten up the room. I don’t make the bed, but I pull up the covers and I tell the steward or housekeeping that there’s no need to make the bed. They can check the TP, maybe remove the trash and I’m good on a day to day basis, I don’t need vacuuming or dusting every day. They’re not maids.

In the loud noise department -- shouting into your cellphone because you have a weak connection. On my last cruise, I called the cabin next door, using the ship's phone system. I told the woman who answered that I now knew her husband's entire confidential business strategy for the second quarter of the next year because I'd heard every single word of it, clear as a bell, through the cabin wall. That was on the first full day of the trip, and I never heard another sound from that cabin for the whole remainder of a two-week cruise!

When we left I took all the bedsheets, towels, and pillow cases off and lazy folded them and put them on the desk so she could just pick it up. It is incredibly dark when you switch off the lights in an inside cabin, which can make things difficult if you have to get up in the middle of the night. I was quite impressed on our last cruise. It was a newer ship, and (like in some European hotels), you have to put your room key in a slot on the wall to make the outlets work. Hence, when you pull your card to exit, all lights and electrical units go out. I also noticed there is a three-light system over the cabin door. The cabin stewards can tell when you are in your room with your card in the slot, when you have left your room because there is no card in the slot, and when you have engaged the "do not disturb" button.

Booked my 1st cruise for my husband and I, with my sister for her 2nd. One thing she told me is that her steward wasn't taking his tip every day. Finally she told him, if there is money in this spot, this is meant for you to take for yourself, please take it. He then took the tip every day. It made me sad in a way, he was so afraid of being accused of stealing after finally being able to go back to work after the pandemic, he wasn't taking his tip. She hadn't thought of that until she talked to some of the spa staff about the workers on the ship. You'd be surprised about how little they actually make =( She also told me to make sure I bring plenty of small bills, just for tipping purposes.

1 huge tip if you're worried about water - filter water bottles! I got a brita one ages ago because I live in South Korea and the water here is potable but not drinkable. It means I can grab some water while at work, or if I go to a theme park or something I can fill it up and it tastes just fine! You obviously have to replace to filter every once in the while but it's super handy!

I filled my water bottle from the tap every day and it was fine - tasted the same as bottled water I drink at home. On other cruises, I've filled my water bottle at the dispenser in the buffet. Sometimes they ask that you fill water bottles from a glass rather than directly from the dispenser in order to avoid cross contamination.

I never do it at home so I’m going to have to write myself a note to remember. One thing I love doing when I’m traveling (and generally is forgotten) is treating the staff with kindness. Please, thank you and framing things in a question so it’s an option (I get they are super busy) is something I learned early will help get my needs heard as I’m disabled. Never seen umbrellas supplied by a cruise line, perhaps in more upscale ships or cabins. Agree with you regarding the mini-bar. You could probably get a cheaper drink at one of the bars. Great tips for newer cruisers.

I've been on 3 cruises and had all that information before we left to board the ship. Plus, we always has an inside cabin so no worries about the balcony issues.

I am currently on holiday in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and I cannot stop watching cruise videos. They are addictive. I have seen a few cruise ships (ie Bequia).

Went on a beautiful Mediterranean cruise with my parents, my husband, our two daughters, my sister and her husband. I jokingly refer to it as our naked cruise.
My folks had our daughters I was blow drying my hair naked and my husband was just getting out of the shower; our oldest came marching in with my dad. Lesson: just because you have a key you should knock first.
My parents were next door to my sister. Mom knocked the door, no answer. So she peaked around the divider between the balconies. "Hey I just knocked, why didn't you answer." They were making love.
My brother-in-law and my dad were both traumatize the rest of the trip.

Yes, don’t put flushable wipes in the cruise ship toilet. It’s embarrassing and no fun when the toilet backs up and overflows into the bathroom. Ask me how I know!

    • @jendubay3782

Flushable wipes should never be flushed anyway, land or sea. They create havoc on all systems.

I asked my cabin stewardess about some of the toiletries. She gave me a big bag of them. As for walking around stark bollocks naked, just pull the curtains first. Depending where and what kind of balcony you have depends what you can or be willing to do. Mine was on 6 deck on the QM2 which is just below the boat/main deck. Some no line sun bathing, open curtains but watch out for lifeboat drill!
Depending which side my cabin was facing in port, sea view or land/other liner view, I'd go out topless if a sea view. No one saw anything. If they did, big deal.

I was on a Carnival Cruise and some young adults climbed out on top of the life boats which were suspended along side the ship in the middle of the night, while underway. I called Security immediately to report the situation and thankfully no one fell overboard. Apparently they weren't too smart.
