Thanks to rsmith415 in my Discord server for tips on the every wincon deck and suggesting Kenrith as a commander for it. That helped my choose Kenrith as the commander for this deck!
Suggestion for deck: Transcendence can be aided by several cards to lock you into a state of can't lose: Everlasting Torment, Rampaging Ferocidon, Leyline of Punishment, Forsaken Wastes, Sulfuric Vortex all stipulate that players can't gain life and Platinum Emperion locks your life total. Permanent Transcendence... So long as no one plays a removal spell.
Dave, I find this very important to note, as I have played transcendence before in an identical method: the lose the game is a triggered ability. This means, hilariously: If your life total is 20 or more and you control an effect that states “you can’t lose the game”, then an infinite loop is formed. If neither player wants to end the loop by removing one of these two cards from the battlefield, the game ends in a draw. (2004-10-04)
@@kaukospots play on that red line like it's the only thing that matters. Win like (and also literally it would seem at times) no one else can. This is an amazing thing to show up to a table with.
@@8thPlaceDave Good to know :) I wonder if there could be two other similarly ridiculous decks to include but I don’t know what they could be to match these ones.
You could use Glorious End to end your own turn after taking an extra one, since directly ending the turn means you skip the beginning of the End Step. So, for example, if you play Chance for Glory and take an extra turn, play Glorious End during the post-combat Main and you won’t lose to Chance. You will lose next turn to End though…
I suggested it in the All You Win The Game deck, but Fractured Identity would be a great way to "donate" your lose cards to your opponents and when paired with Phage it makes all your opponents lose simultaneously.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought if you have Transcendence or Immortal Coil out with a "you can't lose the game" effect and you meet the lose condition for one of those two I believe it actually causes a game ending loop of mandatory game actions.
You're not wrong, but I'm not someone with more rules knowledge. I believe the issue was that it *wasn't* game ending (although yes that means it's a stalemate)
You're absolutely right! Quoting from the Gatherer page: "If your life total is 20 or more and you control an effect that states “you can't lose the game”, then an infinite loop is formed. If neither player wants to end the loop by removing one of these two cards from the battlefield, the game ends in a draw."
@@oelboy this has been later updated with tournament standard rulings, if a player starts an infinite loop of state based actions that doesn't change anything, and neither player *can* stop it, the player who started the loop gets a game loss. I have a Donate deck similar to this, but I'm surprised Sudden Substitution didn't make an appearance! "I'll trade your creature for this Transcendence spell I'm currently casting..." And with split second, it's unlikely anyone will be able to do anything but to gasp in awe at the sheer jankiness of it all.
I'm impressed by the playtesting for the deck. Every so often you get deck techs where people just use past experience to craft a new deck rather than giving out pointers based on their experience playing it
There is a ruling on Transcendence that says "If your life total is 20 or more and you control an effect that states “you can't lose the game”, then an infinite loop is formed. If neither player wants to end the loop by removing one of these two cards from the battlefield, the game ends in a draw". So watch out for that.
My number one suggestion, as a pseudo donate/removal spell, would be Fractured Identity. You can remove something, and give the table copies of it, or you can use it to give everyone a copy of one of the lose the game cards (just wins with Phage). Also, maybe Mutavault as a safer thing to put the counter from book of exalted deeds on, or Faceless haven if you can fit the snow mana.
Fun fact, there's only one way to trigger Enduring Angel's lose condition, and that's to turn it into a Human Werewolf, and then have something forcibly transform it, since the only cards that can force a double faced card to transform can only target Human Werewolves.
I think you’re misinterpreting the card. It only makes you lose if the replacement ability goes off and you don’t transform it. This can be accomplished as easy as having a clone or token copy of it.
This is such a flavorful Orzhov deck despite not really being one: Gain immortality through white to abuse extremely dangerous but powerful abilities through black, then grant your opponent those same extremely dangerous abilities as a "gift" to kill them, assisted by subjugating the three other colors.
I would include sudden substitution. You can steal an enemies creature and give him an „get an extra turn, but you lose“-spell. Dont know if that works, but seems pretty fitting.
You should know that if you play this at a LGS, the other players are going to say "you might not lose the game, but you may still lose your life" while pulling out knifes, forcing you to concede.
You're a mad scientist. And I love it! I'd think about including Fateful Handoff. It's a new Black Donate that also draws you cards. Also, maybe Hive Mind since it lets you "give" your opponents the Pacts that they'll have to pay for or die. Oh, Mutavault would be a good addition so you can animate it, put Book of Exalted Deeds on it since it's technically and Angel, and then keep it as a land for the rest of the game. Because most people don't play land destruction, it can make you mostly unkillable. (Also works with Faceless Haven if you have enough Snow Mana, but that's hard in a 5 color deck.)
I have a drain deck that runs both Intervention Pact and Triskaidekaphobia in it. Trisk is a card that i will never remove because it's such a fun card, and I have gotten a kill with it before Edit: My first thought when you started talking about the deck was to go the extra mile and add Abyssal Persecutor because it says that you can't win the game. Good to see that you did add it
I love this! If you are up for a headache, you could make a deck that is only cards that don't play as they read. (Eightfold Maze, Quicksilver Fountain, etc...)
I've made a very similar deck in the last two months with O-Kagachi as Commander and it has become my favourite one so far. it has the highest winrate out of all my decks just because nobody bats an eye - and if they do, the've already lost due to having one of my permanents. My latest includes are: - Onmiscience - Fractured Identity - Ruinous Ultimatum - Divine Intervention (for meme-purpose)
One card I'd heavily recommend is Fractured Identity. Play out a Phage or Enduring Angel, use Fractured Identity on it, then your opponents instantly lose if it was Phage, or lose the next time they go to 0 with the Angel (because tokens can't transform, so its 'youlose the game' part happens; they added that part specifically to stop people trying to cheese it with copy/token effects)
My opponent and I stare at each other. Eternally. With no cards in hand. No cards in library. Both below 0 life. Untap. Upkeep. Draw. Lose. Can't. Your turn. Untap. Upkeep. Draw. Lose. Can't. Your turn.
New Sheoldred is broken with Lich’s Mastery and Aetherflux Resevoir :D Might be too consistently good and not fun to play though, this seems like great fun as is. What a fun deck!
16:24 Just a note for people wanting to build something like this. Some of the lose the game effects apply at end of turn, so you would still lose in that case. (Mostly just the extra turn cards) Also any state- based lose the game effect would still happen. So end the turn effects only get around about half the cards.
I have a 4 color deck that is effectively a retrained version of this deck. The deck now consists a considerable amount of donation and stifle effects. It's always fun to Reanimate a Phage the Untouchable and negate the ETB trigger with a counter spell.
Cool deck. Here is a idea, it was one I had along time ago but you mentioned something that reminds me of it. Gift Giving Deck ~ Deck build to give your opponent a lot of things like tokens, monsters, ect. I wanted to build one but not sure what would be a good build.
I myself play a similar deck with the Reaper King as the commander. I donate the "you lose the game when they leave the battelfield" enchantments and blow them up with my scarecrows. For the early turns the scarecrows are a good way of regulating the board and keep other threats in check. Two of my favorite cards in the Deck are Drake Familiar and Release to the Wind. Both remove the enchantments from the opponents battlefield but let me play them again. And in addition the Drake doesn't target so you can return an untargetable enchantment like Nine Lives. The deck ist full of jank but so much fun!
I love these creative decks!! When I build a deck I aim to make something that no one in the world has created and it looks like you have that same vibe when it comes to building!
Reminds me of one of my favorite decks, which features the cards that can swap players' life totals, and a few that double or half them. It also runs Lich's Mastery and Triskaidekaphobia, plus Tree of Perdition. Life total is just a number.
very fun theme. I've been tinkering with a pact donation deck on arena, very fun to play! the trickster saga + liquimetal coating or zur eternal schemer can be a fun way to donate although it's a few more steps than donate or harmless offering. same with fateful handoff + liquimetal.
You know, I might actually build this deck, I have all except Lich (not gonna spend 150$ on that) and it includes a lot of fun cards that don't really see play. I like it quite a lot. Also can add Fateful Handoff from BRO as a great donate effect
I actually have a variant of this deck in that it’s the same theme, but Queen Marchesa is my commander because the best “you lose the game” cards are in that color combination. It’s a lot of fun. The deck is effectively Lich’s Mastery as a second commander
I'm surprised at the lack of Sudden Substitution! Steal a creature while giving them an effect like Lich, Immortal coil, or one of the 2 mana extra turn spells.
I once played a similar donation shenanigans deck with Codie as the commander. Pretty fun! Even though I didn't include every lose the game card, most of them made it in. Hive Mind + Pacts is also always fun for the whole table! xD
One thing to watch out for with Gideon of the Trials is that if you're using his emblem to stay alive a type changing effect can make you lose the game. I once killed myself by using the +1 on Sarkhan the Masterless to turn all of my planeswalkers into dragons.
This video inspired me to make the deck as well. One of my magic life long dreams is to “fractured identity” a “phage, the untouchable”. I haven’t found a good deck to play that very expensive combo but it sounds like one of the craziest ways to win a game.
Deffo going to build this, I am going to swap out the red pact for a Fractured Identity, as I think in this deck that's a huge win con, gives each of your opponents a token copy of any card in the deck. it's an instant win if you have Phage out!
This deck is super interesting. I like the idea of forgetting mechanics and just forcing players to lose. Had you considered vraska, the unseen? I feel like it should be included, as she has an ultimate ability to summon tokens that, when they deal player damage, that player loses the game
One important thing about aetherflux reservoir is that you can't pay life you don't have. So having a Gideon of the trials emblem doesn't allow you to pay into the negatives to shoot everyone.
Thoughts on maybe trying this with Kyodai to make cards like Lich's Mastery indestructible? Also a great card to run in this is Cyclonic Rift, not just because it's good, but you can gift away your lose the game cards to each opponent and then overload rift to make them all lose
i once build a Karador Kingmaker deck, that was focused on forcing a friend of mine to win against his will. it was very fun, especially when another friend of mine played his simic clone deck.
Very interesting build. Did you give any thought to any of the spells that can counter triggered abilities? I'm a big fan of Tale's End for it's versatility.
I initially had Obeka and Sundial of the Infinite in the deck, to just end the turn while a lose the game trigger is on the stack. It would basically be the same as countering the triggered ability, but they felt redundant since I have 9 other cards that say I can't lose the game. I had Obeka and Sundial in my hand sometimes, but just never felt the need to cast them, so I replaced them with other cards.
@@8thPlaceDave I was curious if you had considered any of the spells that serve double duty like Tale's End, Dissallow, the new Ertai, etc. They can be used to stop a lose trigger for you but can also be used to stop something your opponents are doing so they aren't just dead cards (like obeka or sundial might be).
A pretty simple win would be to play Hive Mind and then play a Pact of a color your opponent(s) can't cast. On their next upkeep they would be required to pay a mana color that they do not have access to, victory!
I usually don't do gameplay videos since they take forever to film and edit, and tend to get comparatively little views, but I would like to get around to doing a gameplay video with this deck and the every win con deck!
Been tinkering around with Archfiend in standard a bit and its probobly my faborite wincon ever. You can just wait and do a fateful handover with a oilcounter left or.... have Dross out, act of treason one of thier guys (rip against controll) and equip Blade of Shared souls to it to copy Dross. End turn, they get a nifty suited up creature but with no oilcounters on it, shame
you can go a step further and do a almost OTK build out of it. Let your only artifacts, enchantments and creatures in the deck be. Archfiend, Blade of SS and The Shattered States Era. Get The Shattered States Era out regardless of value and the next turn cast Chaotic Transformation targeting an ench, artifact and creature on whatever you got handly (just remember the deckbuilding restricion and they need to controll a creature to joink). Have 2 mana up or a Tazaret out, equip the stolen creature with a blade. Profit? Havent tried this version yet but it seems so much fun to pull off ^^
The Abyssal Persecutor thing is amazing, and now I kind of want to see a deck that is just trying to achieve a draw as fast as possible - maybe a mill/discard deck that would make your opponents lose the game super fast except abyssal persecutor is out and then you play one of the "you can't lose the game" cards and just skip through your turns until no player can do anything anymore, but also nobody can win or lose
I made my atraxa deck with all the same non-red cards. I would run stifle or trickbind to counter lose the game effects should you need to. of course they can also be used to stop comboing opponents.
i have a 4 color deck (non-green) floating around somewhere. it's goal is to either : hand a player a demonic pact that's about to tick out, hand someone a Lich (or equivalent effect) that's about to blow up, or use either Beacon of Immortality or Celestial Mantle on another player then set them to 0 with False Cure
Love it! Sudden Spoiling is also a nice card to play with Pacts, opponents without the mana usually can't pay for them. Do you often need to protect your loss prevention pieces or is the reanimation on Kenrith enough? Would have thought at least Indestructebility to show up. Also Karn the Great Creator with allow replaying the Golden Throne.
This is such a cool deck. I was a bit surprised you didn't include a gilded lotus as mana rock and also flawless manuver but that's just me. I would love to play against this deck.
Just something I'd like to mention is that with a card like lich's mastery saying you can't lose the game, that does not mean you opponents can not win the game. Through a card such as thassa's oracle or any other card that allows an opponent to win the game, they can still beat you. This is because winning in magic usually happens when a gamestate has been reached where all your opponents have lost (usually this being your opponents having 0 life or attempting to draw from an empty library.) Cards that have alternate win cons on them technically circumvent this by allowing an opponent to accjieve a "win condition" despite you being technically unable to lose. Also, you have to be careful with some cards here because, say, you control platinum angel and the immortal coil if an opponent exiles your graveyard that would cause the game to end in a draw. This happens because the immortal coil will see you having no cards in your graveyard and trigger, but platinum angel will make you not lose. So after the trigger resolves, immortal coil will see you haven't lost, and your graveyard is still empty, so it will trigger again, creating an infinite loop of involuntarily triggers meaning if nobody can stop it at Instant speed either by destroying one of the two cards or adding a card to you graveyard the game will end in a draw.
Fractured identity is not only my favourite removal spell, but it's also my favourite donate spell AND is a 2-card combo with phage. Might be worthy of consideration.
Lich's Mastery + Nefarious Lich is a fairly good combo, you can't lose the game, whenever you would be dealt damage, you instead exile that many cards from your graveyard (or as many as you can) and whenever you gain life you instead draw that many cards instead.
I made a deck using a creature named Queza augur of agonies, it has whenever you draw a card target opponent losses 1 life and you gain 1 life. The best combo I have with it is lichs mastery
I once lost a game with someone playing a card that when it loses all counters, you lose the game. Then he used all the benefits of the card and gave me controll of said card and in my next upkeep, i lost the game.
Is Isochron scepter available for this format? I haven't played this format or even magic in years, but this deck reminded me of the scepter, platinum angel, and final fortune deck I made back in the day lol
I made wincon tribal too!! It's one of my oldest decks, and it's super dumb and funny 😂 very cool that there's someone else who tried the same ridiculousness that I did 😁
And for any of the cards that make you lose the game when it leaves the game, that player cannot kill you if they don't want to lose as well. (Because if you leave the game so does the permanent, meaning it left the battlefield, meaning "their" permanent triggers, meaning they lose the game.)
I have this deck. I run as many spells that counter triggered abilities and end my turn as I can and several things that let me gift lose the game effects to my enemies
I know that it needs multiple cards, but Fractured Identity and Solemnity can be some alternative options. Giving Phage to all opponents, or an Archfiend of the Dross with no oil counters on it can be fun, but does need quite a bit of set-up. Also, Solemnity + Nine Lives is a soft lock, not a great one though
Based off of this video, I'm thinking it is possible to force a complete stalemate, where it is not possible for either player to win or lose the game (i.e. neither player is able to affect the board in anyway that would end the game). I would very much like to see if you could build a deck like this.

2:39 another great card in situations like this is Deflecting Palm. One of my favorites
Abyssal Persecutor and Lich's Mastery, is the combo you play, when a friend wants to leave but you want him to stay
Hive Mind + Pacts is also always fun for the whole table! xD
Hive Mind + Pact is a great idea!
@@8thPlaceDave Even better in Codie since you can pull the pacts from your deck by playing a one mana spell off of Codie's ability.
One thing to watch out for with Gideon of the Trials is that if you're using his emblem to stay alive a type changing effect can make you lose the game. I once killed myself by using the +1 on Sarkhan the Masterless to turn all of my planeswalkers into dragons.
"Hey bud, I built this really cool Kenrith deck, you should totally play it." They draw their opening hand and the horror sets in and face turns pale.
I thought about it, but the theme is to play cards that say I lose the game, not so much ones that make an opponent lose ;)
This is simply amazing. Stunning.
you can't lose
One important thing about aetherflux reservoir is that you can't pay life you don't have. So having a Gideon of the trials emblem doesn't allow you to pay into the negatives to shoot everyone.
Thoughts on maybe trying this with Kyodai to make cards like Lich's Mastery indestructible?
Also a great card to run in this is Cyclonic Rift, not just because it's good, but you can gift away your lose the game cards to each opponent and then overload rift to make them all lose
Suggestion for a deck title
"Dormammu, I've come to bargain"
i once build a Karador Kingmaker deck, that was focused on forcing a friend of mine to win against his will. it was very fun, especially when another friend of mine played his simic clone deck.
And here I thought we were going to see some game play
@@GravePacked I hadn't given them a whole lot of consideration, but I could definitely see them being useful. Definitely worth trying out at least.
A pretty simple win would be to play Hive Mind and then play a Pact of a color your opponent(s) can't cast. On their next upkeep they would be required to pay a mana color that they do not have access to, victory!
The cards for when your friend refuses to just end the game when they've basically already won.
Do you post videos of games with these decks anywhere?
I usually don't do gameplay videos since they take forever to film and edit, and tend to get comparatively little views, but I would like to get around to doing a gameplay video with this deck and the every win con deck!
what about Axis of Mortality?
how does it fare in this deck that's supposed to be hanging on a "lose" state? does it hang a lot on 0 life?
That was a very fun game, I like this ''rat tribal'' deck
weell not in this sense but i was thinking of just doing a bad gifts deck with codie as the commander
and "you lose the game" stuff is right up there
Just something I'd like to mention is that with a card like lich's mastery saying you can't lose the game, that does not mean you opponents can not win the game.
I would play mutavault, to transform it into a platinium angel and have the “you can’t lose the game” effect in a land.
What are some ways to turn it into a platinum angel?
is lich's mirror worthwhile? it does prevent you from losing the game, but it costs you all of your permanents, which is pretty hard to come back from
Lich's Mastery + Nefarious Lich is a fairly good combo, you can't lose the game, whenever you would be dealt damage, you instead exile that many cards from your graveyard (or as many as you can) and whenever you gain life you instead draw that many cards instead.
I made a deck using a creature named Queza augur of agonies, it has whenever you draw a card target opponent losses 1 life and you gain 1 life. The best combo I have with it is lichs mastery
This is the best way to play MTG,you know...the FUN way to play! Amazing!
Wish you had included some footage of you playing the deck itself. Kind of you to include the Moxfield list though, that was nice
Wow, you have some really cool ideas for fun decks.
Dammit I just lost the game.
shroud stuff to make it so the game will actually go on forever.
19:25 It can't end as long as your opponents don't haveDivine Intervention, Celestial Convergence (or manage to pull off some other Game Rules Draw).
“You thought you could win…
I don’t have to win…
We both just have to loose.”
Oh hey, a video about the "Lose the game" tribal deck I was building.
This deck looks really fun, lol. Not quite the same thing but I include a few of those creatures in my Jon Irenicus deck
i LOVE these deck techs
I know that it needs multiple cards, but Fractured Identity and Solemnity can be some alternative options. Giving Phage to all opponents, or an Archfiend of the Dross with no oil counters on it can be fun, but does need quite a bit of set-up. Also, Solemnity + Nine Lives is a soft lock, not a great one though
If you give Pact of the Titan replicate, it's an instant win in Kenrith, since you can give the tokens haste
Based off of this video, I'm thinking it is possible to force a complete stalemate, where it is not possible for either player to win or lose the game (i.e. neither player is able to affect the board in anyway that would end the game). I would very much like to see if you could build a deck like this.
