Yeah, heck with this motor and a planetary delete option....it would go ballistic! Would need a serious swaybar in the back to control the torque twist.
I'm sure you already know this but others may not. Brushless motors require special bearings that are designed for the high rotational speed. Regular deep groove bearings wont last long and will cause extra friction and heat.
Idk thanks , i guess i put wrong bearing in a blx 3200 i had taken one from castle motor but wouldnt go on this motor the end bell dont come off and was a pain get ol race out either way i got my moneys worth out of it already .
The 1500kv is a torquier motor, the 1500kv motor on 6s can only rotate at 37800rpm max, 1500kv on 8s can only rotate at 50400rpm max (and is stamped on the motor housing), the stock 2200kv motor on 6s can rotate at 55440rpm so would outperform the 1500kv motor at the top end. 8s on the stock would allow the motor to rotate at 73920rpm max. The 1500kv motor will never outperform the 2200kv at top end speed unless you run at least 9s (which I know does not really exist) then the 1500kv motor could rotate at 56700rpm max. These numbers are all assuming each of the lipo cells is at 4.2v and does not take into account any other factors such as gearing and friction and wear. 1500kv is 1500rpm/volt and 2200kv is 2200rpm/volt.
Colin Winterborne.... sounds to me like you really do know what you're talkin about when it comes time to change Motors in my truck I'll be sure to get a hold of you thank you so much for your input have a great week.
I will have to keep n eye on my motor on mine,n also I put the new paddle tires on it today,so ya I listened to u and ended up getting them, haven’t ran it yet it started storming maybe tomorrow! Bummer in the motor brotha!👍👍👊👊💪💪📹📹
You made a mistake without changing gearing. That long motor needs a gear change in pinion and spur. The real bizarre thing is that you can use a 30T or 34T pinion or even 37T pinion and still got the same temperature at the end of the pack. I have a TP4070 1500kv on my MP9e..Those long can motor and lower kv are made for bizarre TORQUE with no heat..
Yeah. It’s a mod .8 gear and from what I was just told the smaller spur gears are in stock and the new 34t pinion will be in at the end of the month. With that I may be able to use a motor like this and still have some speed.
targetingxmod Hi, im working on my designed model and i need help. I have 775 brushed motor and 3s 30c 1500mah lipo battery. How much total gear ratio it should be? (With differential) I have a big problem. I use 1:15 ratio in total now (1:3 differential gears and 1:5 gt2 pulley on 775 motor). When i stop giving power, wheels suddenly stop( like powerful brake). Wheel diameter : 11 cm What can i do?
These stock motors have metal shielded bearings on the endbell that are exposed to the elements for some stupid reason. The very first thing you should do before you drive your brand new UDR is to put a bit of electrical tape over the exposed bearing.
Can you try tp 4050 pro motor 2390kv. I think that will be awesome for 6s runs and will be great comparison between tp4050 and other 2200kv motors. Thanks. You are doing great buddy.
Mark Hellema at the time of this recording no gearing options were available. I have a video with the Hobbywing 1650 with the 34t pinion and it did pretty good, was slower than stock but ran really good
I still cant understand about KVs, can you guys help me? Are bigger the battery is mire less KVs? Cuz my 2S HSP XSTR PRO has a 3300KV but this TRAXXAS UDR has 8S and 1000KV
Nice video man, In order to make up for the extra torque of the Poseidon, you would need to change your pinion to a higher gear to make up for the torque to speed ratio. I’m not that familiar with Poseidon but I’d bet that the castle has more raw power, the castle at the end of the day. I run a very large Facebook page called “RC Tips and Trick” please check it out, we have 17K members.and growing!
At the time of this recording there were no optional gears. I have a bunch of test videos on my channel please feel free to share them around. Got a lot more on the way, a LOT more I just gotta find time to record it all.
I'd also recommend a bearing upgrade, maybe Fast Eddy has a bearing kit out for it. The issue you are facing is that you weren't fully prepared for what you were trying to achieve. Like what's the C rating of your batteries? Something like a max amps 8s 8000mah 150c would do the trick. What oil grade is used in your differentials? And gearing as others have mentioned.
Stock motor is plenty. Looks like you should of kept the traxxas transmitter/rec with the TSM. Not only would it have kept your truck straight, it would have told you the motor temp and esc temp with the app. These trucks come with all sensors in place already.
Yeah that’s the issue here, it’s mod.8 and I just yesterday got the smaller 47t spur gear and the 34t pinion is due out in a few weeks so I had no way to gear up

Exocaged RC I feel YA I haven't been able to find the 34t pinion to get 40 mph on 4s and the only website I fount with any 30t+ is so broken the paypal functionality is gone so I am now counting on traxxas to release it

I think maybe they are smaller when not counting the tops of the paddles and also they throw a lot more sand up so I guess thats more resistance. Looks awesome though
I hear ya. There was a motor esc combo out of a new udr going on eBay. I’ll have my spare parts in Tomorrow a arms lol. I’m waiting on a machine shop I contacted to come out with their line of aftermarket parts for the UDR.
Nice video mate. Interesting to see the udr with a bigger motor. And paddles on! 👍😆can you not up the pinion size now you have more torque? Been considering the udr or sbr for a while...
Exocaged RC really why traxxas why that is hella stupid they should have just made it mod1 and be done with it on another note i think redcat makes .8 pinion i know they male those weird sizes last time i had seen .6 thats what my blackout takes take a look at redcat they might have something
Yeah it’s a mod .8 gear and from what I was just told the smaller spur gears are in stock and the new 34t pinion will be in at the end of the month. With that I may be able to use a motor like this and still have some speed.
the issue is it needed 8s to even get 38mph, 6s was 30 and yeah you can bash around but the slowness will make you want more when your buddies are clearing jumps you cant. The guy below posted about a 2200kv TP motor thats good to 8s, that may happen and I'll have decent speed on 4s all the way to 8s for when things get stupid. lol

I’m going to open up the rear end and see how it’s holding up. It’s been on 8s a few times now. It will be on video too so if it falls to pieces we wil all see it as it happens.
I hope when you said "add 2s" you just meant from 6s to 8s, not actually just strapping a 2s onto the back in series with a 6s. You should always use similar batteries, like x2 4s 5000's. Maybe I'm wrong with series but I think you will put incredible strain on that 2s.
Nope, I added a 2S that was rated, according to the specs, a bit above the 6S I was using. Plus I didn’t run it enough to get either battery past the halfway point.
Temps? That would be one thing I would want to stay under control for something like the UDR. My last run with stock motor ended at around 175 degrees.
Goes down in KV and expects more speed....also added more weight with a bigger motor.........idk if you know but 2200 is a bigger number than 1500 just an fyi.
LoL no kidding? Wow. Also did you not hear me say “we’re going to see how slow this is, it’s going to be slow”. Maybe you should turn up the volume so you don’t sound like a fool?
Yeah in this case it was really slow and at the time of the recording there were no gear options. It’s amazing at how well this video has done, literally I did this quickly to go run the truck with the wife. LoL.
@@ExocagedRC ahahah good stuff dude you broke the bank with this lol btw i have a brand new UDR and was thinking to replace the esc with a 8s compatible and stick with the stock motor....yay or nay? will the stock pinion/spur gear work fine too? im not looking for extreme speed or acceleration, just want some better performances overall. Also how do the stock diff/gears cope with 8s power, do i risk of chewing everything after a couple of runs? lol thanks and sorry for the many questions!
Yes 2S means 2 cells in Series. For the most part when you see a 2s1p it means there are simply 2 cells in the pack. 3s1p is 3 cells etc. 2s2p is a bit different. That means in the pack are two cells in series and 2 cells in parrellel. Some say this is better than the simpler batteries.

Yes if you had the volume up I did say “let’s see how slow it will be”. In all honesty I was expecting a little more. It’s a mod .8 gear and from what I was just told the smaller spur gears are in stock and the new 34t pinion will be in at the end of the month. With that I may be able to use a motor like this and still have some speed, if not I’ll get the 2200kv Poseidon and call it done.
U have to scale it all up what ever voltage is being sent to the stock . turn it up make a bad ass power full battery that everyone would want to buy immediately. Just thoughts dont tear me up poeple.
The motor is only rated to 8s so that’s what it got, I recently got the smaller spur gear but larger pinions aren’t available yet so I had no way to gear it up.

That motor is not meant for that I have that same motor in my 4wd slash conversion and it breaks a hundred every time Poseidon motors are not bashing motors there speed run it will tell you that on there web site
this motor came out of my speed car and its back in my speed car. I knew it would be slower and it had no issues at all with moving this truck around. I'll probably get a TP Power 2200kv for it at some point.
Celsius? Cannot believe. Fahrenheit? I like your videos very much, but what I really do not like are the measurement units such as ounzes in your servo tests or Fahrenheit or... what makes the statements/results ununderstandable for me and a big part of the world without using calculators. Metric system, Celsius and the whole world will understand. Miles and Pound, ok - this most people (incl. me) can calculate mentally, but ounzes and Fahrenheit are "horror". Guess a lot of viewers of your videos out of North America would highly appreciate not using ounzes and Fahrenheit.
yeah Fahrenheit, you're right I do need to include Celsius and metric measurements in my videos. Also yeah the vast majority of my viewers are in the US.
Sure, but the issue with the bigger and heavier trucks like this is they can break legs and get dangerous, more so than a lightweight slash. I’ve raced big gas 5th scale and they are only good for around 30-40 on a track but they can put you in the hospital quick.
That motor with the extra length is for torque not for top end.
Yep gotta gear it way up to get speed and I don’t have gears yet.
Exocaged RC - Its that gear reduction in the rear end too. But I bet with that motor you could pull a small tree down!! 👍😜
Yeah, heck with this motor and a planetary delete option....it would go ballistic! Would need a serious swaybar in the back to control the torque twist.

Very true

Looks to me like Poseidon maybe the king of the ocean but definitely not on land great video keep up the good work kudos
JJ Festa Poseidon is really awesome on land, in this truck I had no gearing options at the time and it was just slow.

That setup will handle taller gearing. I'd like to see the difference with different gearing.

I bet that would be a good motor for long summer runs.
yeah it ran nice and easy
I wonder what it would run with those stock tires and paddle tires with the original motor on 6s and 8s.
IMA RC Addict fast and very very wild. I’ll find out before too long. LoL.
Max amps are not what they claim...not even close LoL. The issue here was low KV and not having the option to gear up.
The torque on that thing tho!!😱
Stock motor is plenty. Looks like you should of kept the traxxas transmitter/rec with the TSM. Not only would it have kept your truck straight, it would have told you the motor temp and esc temp with the app. These trucks come with all sensors in place already.
I didn’t see any sensors o it anywhere. But yeah the stock motor is plenty fine for this truck. No need for anything more or less
Hello sir I had that problem on my e revo so I jumped the pinion gear up and it ran fast
Yeah that’s the issue here, it’s mod.8 and I just yesterday got the smaller 47t spur gear and the 34t pinion is due out in a few weeks so I had no way to gear up
Great video
I am gonna put a hobby wing system in my UDR the only reason my motor is surviving is because I put a fan on it that compartment is way to restrictive Airflow wise even at low speeds (walking pace) that motor would just get hotter and hotter that motor you have will probably be fine because it will not have to work hard to move the UDR and half of it will be in fresh cool air
Yeah but until I can get the proper gearing, the 2200kv goes back in.

It’s supposed to be available at the end of this month.
Upgrade the esc before the motor. Esc on those trucks are only 90 amps.
I'm runnin EVUL 4292 2200kv until I get my 47T in and can drop down in kV. These Mod 0.8 gear are quickly becoming a pain.
Mark Santamaria had his xrt wouldnt go faster after changes he tried . Ur udr padle tires r smaller 5han the other tires . U need taller gears to acomadate the tire size . The sand tyres are a touch smaller, yeah? seems like a gearing thing. It's not like you would be short on torque!
I think maybe they are smaller when not counting the tops of the paddles and also they throw a lot more sand up so I guess thats more resistance. Looks awesome though
That motor will give you speed if you gear it to the Moon it's got the torque to pull tall gears
Awesome video excellent job definitely a change bigger but not better HAHAHA
yeah gears are needed for this motor to work right.
I want an udr so much.
The 1500kv motor needs a larger pinion gear! To get the same speed as the higher kv Motor also being a longer can it should run cooler.
Yeah I ended up using a tp motor 2200kv and drove it on water on 8s with a wheelie. Totally awesome
Good effort..it was worth a shot
LoL it was horrible. I’ll get gears as soon as I can and try again. I’d like to keep the motor in there but if it’s slow it won’t be.
I hear ya. There was a motor esc combo out of a new udr going on eBay. I’ll have my spare parts in Tomorrow a arms lol. I’m waiting on a machine shop I contacted to come out with their line of aftermarket parts for the UDR.
get a Max 6 esc for it. Yeah lots of nice aluminum parts are on the way, I should be testing some soon.
Nice video mate. Interesting to see the udr with a bigger motor. And paddles on! 👍😆can you not up the pinion size now you have more torque? Been considering the udr or sbr for a while...
At the time of this recording there were no faster gearing options
You didnt change gearing with the motor swap right? I think the lower kv would allow u to run a taller gear to compensate for the kv drop
Can’t find gears to change it. There is supposed to be a 47t spur gear but I can’t find bigger pinions for it. It’s mod .8
Exocaged RC really why traxxas why that is hella stupid they should have just made it mod1 and be done with it on another note i think redcat makes .8 pinion i know they male those weird sizes last time i had seen .6 thats what my blackout takes take a look at redcat they might have something
I agree. Mod.8 was dumb.
Alex Cast da
Volts x Kv=RPM. I believe mod.8 is equal to 32p. You should be able to find different pinions.
Yeah it’s a mod .8 gear and from what I was just told the smaller spur gears are in stock and the new 34t pinion will be in at the end of the month. With that I may be able to use a motor like this and still have some speed.
Ahh.....something just didn’t sound right! There was a clicking noise in there somewhere. 🤷🏽♂️
But with lower kv means more torque so you can up the gearing
Something strange with those sand sprays and slow speeds
Motor length = torque/power
Motor diameter = rpm
add smaller tires = a little less speed
With that setup you should see longer run time and cooler electronics,I didn't think 38mhp on soft dirt was slow 🤔
yeah it ran cooler for sure but was slow compared to stock
Yeah i just don't think it was that slow :) i reckon that's a good setup for bashing :)

Exocaged RC no problem bud it’s a fn beast man 😳🤙
YES!!! TP is THE BEST for anything for the price, they are amazing for speed runs and amazing for bashing. Watch out for temps though
Temps? That would be one thing I would want to stay under control for something like the UDR. My last run with stock motor ended at around 175 degrees.
can be the bearing or the bushing sleeve
Bushing sleeve is good. Bearings were almost totally gone

Since it's running so cool they should just put a higher pinion gear to get this top speed you want.
They didn’t have any way to change gearing when this was in. I have something else in the works for this truck so stay tuned.
It’s not underpowered out of the box so you’ve effectively made it heavier and slower.
just lower kv motor, it is heavier, sure but not enough to do this
Awww, run 8s on the 2200! Run 10s on the 1500.
I have run the 2200 on 8s, its stupid wild. 10S on the 1500 would be awesome but an esc to handle that isn't cheap.
Exocaged RC you're right about that...
Did the stock motor hold up to the 8s?
yes it sure did, I wouldn't recommend running full blast on 8s always but a few short bursts didn't hurt anything on mine
Would be heaps faster if give bigger pinion gear, oh man sad! That is a fast motor if you gear it wright!
Am I understanding this right.

Is the difference how many cells in series in each lipo pack.
Love the videos Brutha ❤️✌️
Yes 2S means 2 cells in Series. For the most part when you see a 2s1p it means there are simply 2 cells in the pack. 3s1p is 3 cells etc. 2s2p is a bit different. That means in the pack are two cells in series and 2 cells in parrellel. Some say this is better than the simpler batteries.
Exocaged RC ✌️😎 Much Appreciation thank you man.
That answers it up good. 👊
so this is my guess, the bigger the motor, the less rpm but the more torque.
did you check your esc settings
Yep calibrated and all
Did you run the same gears
yeah, at the time of this video, faster gears weren't an option
What’s the point of bigger motor if it’s slower?
why not give it a try? Sometimes they run fast enough and cooler, sometimes they don't.
Hey, where did you get the sand tires and did you use the stock rims Thanks God Bless Ya Dave
They are a traxxas tire and wheel combo rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2FTraxxas-8475-Unlimited-Desert-Racer-Paddle-Tires-on-Desert-Racer-Wheels-2-UDR%2F192610087916%3Fhash%3Ditem2cd874b3ec%253Ag%253A8tYAAOSw-INbWkhh%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3Dtraxxas%2B8475%26_from%3DR40%26rt%3Dnc%26LH_TitleDesc%3D0%257C0&campid=5338273090&toolid=20008
Oh wow you are crazy bro pretty big motor😆. Dont you wantet to put that motor into the 8 S dragster ?
Yeah it is. I needed something to go run while the stock motor was out.
Undergeared
It is going to be slow if your running 2s if you run 6s it will go 50 because it is ment for 6s Lipo.
is that a cemetery behind you lol?
Yep we don’t go into the fenced area
i don’t understand what you can’t understand.. 30 with 6s means automatically 40 with 8s.. so simple mathematics....
Max rpm is max rpm. More battery cannot compensate for physical limit.
All your adding is acceleration without changing gears & running on a proper surface. Stiffness of shocks is another consideration
It’s got torque for sure. At the time of this recording there were no faster gears so yeah, take off great, top end not so great
Ala
tire diameter and gearing maybe..
Yeah I need faster gearing for sure
Should of put a big pinion in it.
When you have damaged the inside of the motor is it un usable
depends on how bad it is, if the rotor wrapping is messed up it can come apart at speed and lock up, that can mess up other driveline stuff.
I have a castle motor so it has no wrappings but it has ground a bit of the inside of the can and I'm not sure if thats the end of the motor
Give it a good free rev with no pinion, if it holds together run it.
Thank you I wouldn't have known what to do with out you
what setup is this? Can anyone help me with that please?
Hobbywing Max6 esc, 8s using a 6s and a 2s, Poseidon 1527 motor (1500kv) and traxxas sand tires
whats that ratching noise?
When it slows down? That’s the magnetic detents in the motor. Nothing to worry about.
Sbr 2 with 750 kv what’s half of 1500 kv on 8s is 10 to 15 mph faster. Weird. Must be the gearing
Try some lower gear ratios!
The lower the kv the more torque you have but less speed
U have to scale it all up what ever voltage is being sent to the stock . turn it up make a bad ass power full battery that everyone would want to buy immediately. Just thoughts dont tear me up poeple.
The motor is only rated to 8s so that’s what it got, I recently got the smaller spur gear but larger pinions aren’t available yet so I had no way to gear it up.
what kind of remote is that
The Turnigy / Flysky GT5 radio, I have a couple videos on it and it does pretty good. rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_odkw%3Dgt5%2Bradio%26_osacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp2045573.m570.l2632.R2.TR2.TRC1.A0.H0.Xflysky%2Bgt5.TRS0%26_nkw%3Dflysky%2Bgt5%26_sacat%3D2562&campid=5338273090&toolid=20008
Exocaged RC thank you mate
mooi
it needs more gear... that motor can handle a lot lower of a ratio
Go up a couple on the pin and it would be faster
at the time of this recording, faster gearing was not available
what degrees?
I think the motor was 120.
How long have u had it before the motor bearings went out
I was one of the first to get one and it’s always had 6S along with some 8s usage.
Gear it up
do you want to get rid of your old motor
no sir, its back in the truck now.
You do realize it's just geared wrong right? 22.2V (6S) x 2300kv = 51,060RPM. 29.6V (8S) x 1500kv = 44,400RPM.
You do realize at the time of this recording there were no other gearing options available right?
My traxxas slash 2wd went 40mph on a 7 cell nickle medal hydride 3/4 throtal
Sure, but the issue with the bigger and heavier trucks like this is they can break legs and get dangerous, more so than a lightweight slash. I’ve raced big gas 5th scale and they are only good for around 30-40 on a track but they can put you in the hospital quick.
Makes sence
