@Tomtative 0:57 if.you notice, this is the 4th repeat of the motif from before it (starts around 0:49). Except this time, and only this time, the entire sequence is shifted by one 16th note which gives it this imbalanced feeling. That imbalance is unexpected and clever. Thus interesting. 16th notes are just half as long as 8th notes, which is what the entire sequence is made of
Lol, I was so confused as a (non English speaking) kid when king Bob-omb just wouldn't go down after throwing him off an effing mountain. Fond memories.
Dude, I really hope people realize what you did with that animation.. it's not just random Mario action, you're literally going through the 64 level from a 2d perspective.. that is just so f****** awesome
recreating the level with the SNES All-Stars SMB3 style along with the cartoonish touch is so badass, I just love Mario's eye's popping out when he shoots out of the cannon, along with the arrangement going gospel, everything hits right in the nostalgia
Very good arrangement! I easily dislike it when people go "too far" with arrangements where the original theme is lost. This is a good mix of being very creative while holding onto the original style and feel. Great solos, really love this rendition! Lots of fun!
It feels like a 1:1 recreation at first, then builds a hecking skyscraper off of it. I love it. Props to making the instruments sound like an HQ restoration of the original song!
Yeah, I think a little nod to the Recess theme. Charlie is always dropping little musical quotes all over the place. Not content with making phenomenal arrangements of banging game tunes, he throws some wonderful garnish on top of an already tasty dish. Guy is a genius
You guys really wanted to make it hard for the first trumpets 😂 All jokes aside, this was really well written. It’s not often I come across a video game transcription this well made. The contrast between certain parts, especially close to the end, really brings out the song. Easy subscription from me!
This whole channel is just criminally under-subscribed. With the level of effort that Charlie puts into every single arrangement, alongside the sheer cost of booking such studio time, videographer time, animator time, as well as the involvement of so many brilliant instrumentalists, this is something I'd expect to see from an outright game publisher, not as a passion project. It's just so absolutely incredible to live in a world where something as beautiful as all of these covers exists. I'm super exicited to see what Charlie and the rest of the 8BBB have in store for 2022.
Every musician kills it here, and the arrangement is phenomenal. Honestly, it makes me want to just get up and start moving and grooving, especially during the double time section at the end. Masterful performance.
I woke up a couple of days ago with the original song in my head out of nowhere. Realized how jazzy it was, and try to imagine how it would be. I had to check, someone MUST've done it. And it sounds EXACTLY as I imagined.
The problem with arrangements and performance of this quality is that, for jazz aficionados like myself...once you hear something so beautifully layered and intriguingly syncopated (let alone the video-game nostalgia)...how in the world are you supposed to go back to the radio?!? You all belong at a certain 10 Columbus Circle! As soon as you book a night, I'll buy my plane ticket from Vancouver to NYC; I'm serious. [As a drummer and bassist with love for the whole band--my favourite parts: those response lines from the saxes from 0:45-0:53 (brilliantly balanced); the syncopated variation with those off-beat 16th hits from 0:58-1:02 (entirely unexpected); the 6/4 + 4/4 bars, with that harmonic pause, leading into the sax solo, from 1:19-1:29 (delightfully disorienting); the 5/4 plus organ hit to hurl forward the sax from 1:31-1:35 (downright dirty); the descending horn walking from 1:52-2:00 (cleverly counter-melodic); the 7/8 plus 9/8 (my best guess?!?) with that soaring brass + reed line from 2:24-2:28 (man, you all are together!); the wall of pure, warm sound from 2:45-2:54; the entire end (bari BADness + rhythm section drop-out + DOUBLE TIME with walking bass!). Hope this (looong) list expresses my love.]
The audio mixing, the animations, the arrangement, the acoustics, the musicians, the balance, the sax solo, the syncopated variations on the melody, the rock organ, the stylizations, and oh so smooth and tight and the same time. Phenomenal. Everyone knows this piece and I think you did really well.
The brass section is on point. My hairs stood up when I heard when they came in and even more as they kept going! Good job y’all! My God!!! Everyone did exceptionally well!
