  • It's no secret that a road trip up California's Highway 1 is a bucket list item for everybody. In this video, I take it to the next level and overland camp Highway 1, starting in Ventura and sleeping with the perfect view of the Pacific Coast in Big Sur. All while living out of my 2-door Bronco.

I live in this area and explore the Los Padres National Forest a lot. The Forest Service has a real problem opening and closing roads. They can close them in a heartbeat but then say they don’t have the staff to reopen them in a timely fashion. Their website isn’t much help either because the information often times contradicts what you find in person. Unfortunately the only way to know if a road is open is to physically go there to see for yourself. Don’t trust the road signs, many times the gate is open when the sign says closed and vice versa.

Hi, you’re right. No drones from the average high tide point over the last 19 years Seaward for 5 nautical miles and restricts manned aircraft from flying below 1000 feet, not just drones. I’m well away from that in all of these points. Thank you for your concern. Flying over any of the beaches or water is a huge no-no between Cambria and Carmel. The FAA has a really great resource for UAS Pilots, it’s an app called B4UFLY, and any and all pilots should be using it before taking off to ensure the areas they fly in are legal and they won’t be endangering wildlife or manned aircraft.
