Brilliant, Sir! Many years ago, when living in Shrewsbury, I attended a memorial mass in Battle church, given for all who had taken part on that awful day.
I am well, thank you! And thank you for being a creator who actually takes the time to reply and interact with viewers/commenters. You do incredible work!
Thanks for all your research. I have Shakespeare's Henry IV & Henry V on audiobook format and your download is so helpful in understanding the historical background to these wonderful plays..
I've been watching your content since the anarchy video. It's just amazing work. Detailed, well put together - if you didn't know it, you'd think you were watching a BBC production. I don't usually leave comments but I had to on this one. Anyone that can put together an hour on Hotspur... Just... Wow. And done as well as all the other videos. Just awesome. Bravo, sir.
Many thanks for your very kind comment James, it really does spur (forgive the pun) me on, I am just writing the script for the next one which hopefully you will enjoy even more 😉🙏👍
Another fantastic video! I have to say though that it had me heartbroken due to the loss of all those lives. I know it was war 💔 the history is absoulutly amazing.
I wish we had history lessons like this at school instead of dreary lectures delivered by bored teachers and ancient history books, if we had I may well have listened! Just found you and was fascinated with a piece of history I knew nothing about so I have subscribed. I now have some catching up to do! Thank you.
Great video mate, loved it. Felt like I was watching a high production tv doco. Only slight issue is the appearance of marching Romans, and a few other incorrect periods of armour. But I get it if you were struggling to find footage that fit the video. Bloody good job though keep it up!
Many thanks Coombsy, yes using stock video clips has their limitations, the romans should have been cropped in so much that you wouldn’t have been able to tell but I messed it up and failed to spot it later. Still, the next one should be ready next week and will have a very different look as I will be using far less stock clips, you’ll have to let me know what you think of it. 😉🙏👍
Thank you for this some of my ancestors were from Cheshire at this time. I’m certain my ancestors were at this battle and do know that they had supported Edward The Black Prince and King Henry 5th later in France.
@@historyslifestories373 But seriously , I know for a fact that one of my direct Ancestors was Sir Piers Legh. He fought with Henry at Agincourt. He actually died near Paris in 1422. They were all from around Cheshire , as far as I know his father had fought with Edward the Black Prince earlier
This was really interesting and it’s only recently I found out about the football link and Hotspur. I’m from Northumberland but have Lancastrian parents. Great video.
Many thanks Martin, yes it’s a fascinating story, I often wonder how many Tottenham supporters actually know about Hotspur himself, I should imagine most. 🙏👍
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. MY ANCESTOR ''SIR WALTER BLOUNT'' WAS KILLED-IN-ACTION FIGHTING TO DEFEND KING HENRY 4th, DURING THE BATTLE OF SHREWSBURY IN 1403. THIS FACT WAS REVEALED IN SHAKESPEARE'S HISTORICAL PLAY ''HENRY 4th, PART 1'': DANIEL PAUL VOGLESONG
Many thanks for that, yes the pronunciation of Shrewsbury is very emotive, ‘Her in doors’ pulled me up on it when she heard me recording, so I tried ‘Shrew’ but just couldn’t get to grips with it, it was take after take with many expletives thrown in 😂. So I gave up. However, I have heard (rightly or wrongly) that both ways are correct, even the mayor pronounces it the way I do - apparently. All I know is, it’s a lovely town and well worth a visit 😉🙏👍
I quite agree, love the play. However, for me I think the reality is a better story, what with the arrow in the face and all that, but that’s just my opinion 😉👍
All about self interest of lords. On both sides including Owain Glyndwr .Dwr(water). Not pronounced Dower..as in flower but Doohr.Dwr. Brilliant video. Thank you.Diolch.
You are quite right about the lords, but sadly wasn’t it ever thus? Thanks for letting me know about the pronunciation of Glyndwr, I did Google it with a few sites and they all pronounced it Dower, shows how good they are, (in fact some of them can’t correctly pronounce French either), do you know of a good site that correctly pronounces Welsh words? I would be very grateful if you do. Glad you liked the video 😉🙏👍

Wow, that must have been fascinating. The church and museum nearby are well worth a visit.
I attended many Sunday services when I was a foolish guest of the "Dana".😅😊
Thank you for another excellent video
I love these long form and in depth explorations of history.!
Many thanks Marcus, your comment is much appreciated 😉🙏👍
Great to finally put a face to the voice! Awesome program, super well done. Thank you so much for your fantastic channel and great topics
Many thanks again Andy, I trust you are well, your kind words are very much appreciated 😉🙏👍

Many thanks for your comment, I am glad the video was helpful to you, yes they are great plays and Henry V is probably my favourite. 😉🙏👍
Excellent presentation. Easy to follow as well.
Many thanks, really appreciate your comment 😉🙏👍

Thank you so much for the lovely presentation! And it's nice to finally see our host!
Ha ha, many thanks Sheila, good to hear from you again. Yes I thought I would give it a whirl 😂👍
Hotspur would make a great epic film
Absolutely, but who would play him ? 🤔👍
Harry Kane would be my first choice 👌 but to be more realistic I think Sean Bean would tick a lot of boxes for me ?
Hotspur made a great Shakespearean character. Henry Cavill with Benedict Cumberbatch as King Henry.
Well you never see either of them in anything rubbish 👍
His character was recently in the Henry V movie in 2019. With Timothee Chaltme as King Henry V. I believe Hotspur is in the opening scene.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. Thank you.
That's great, many thanks for letting me know Trevor. 😁

That really was excellent so much detail. Must have seen several specific docs on Shrewsbury going back to Two Men in a Trench but this was the best.👍
Hi Jonnie, I’m really glad you liked it, I actually like those videos that dig deep myself. 😉🙏👍
Another fantastic video! I have to say though that it had me heartbroken due to the loss of all those lives. I know it was war 💔 the history is absoulutly amazing.
Thanks again Tracy, when you visit and walk around these battle sites they do make you stop and think about what actually happened. 😉🙏👍
Very nicely done video. Thank you. Also I love the music you chose.
Many thanks, yes I had a good look around for the music, it made a change 😉🙏👍

Many thanks Tango, your words are very much appreciated. I like to try and get the story over but in an entertaining way. 😉🙏👍
Really enjoyed your presentation and style. Thank you. Interesting to hear about Henry IV of who there is much less material available here.
Many thanks John, yes you are quite right, Henry IV is somewhat of an enigma 😉👍
Well done. Thank you for all your effort
You are very welcome John 😉🙏👍

Thank you for this some of my ancestors were from Cheshire at this time. I’m certain my ancestors were at this battle and do know that they had supported Edward The Black Prince and King Henry 5th later in France.
I guess there may even have been some that survived Shrewsbury and even made it to the French campaign. 😉🙏👍

Yes Blount’s crest is on the wall in Battlefield church with all the other nobles that participated in the battle 👍
Out of all the horrible injuries described, Douglas losing a testicle was the one that made me wince. 🌰🥥
Me too 😂
My mum had a lurcher called Hotspur... he was so fast! 😂
The guy in the background staggering around with his back on fire 😂
Yes, maybe a tad over dramatic 😂👍
This is amazing work makes the AI generated channels look amature and un watchable
Many thanks Paul for your comment and support 😉🙏👍
Henry "Hotspur" Percy was my granddad, 27 times removed
When did he stop being your granddad?
Wooow he was removed many times!!!
Minor comment: Shrewsbury was, and still is, a town not a city. Otherwise superb.
You are quite right, it is indeed a town, thanks for letting me know 🙏👍
@@historyslifestories373 It DOES have an abbey, but not a cathedral.
Hot spur Ist cousin 18 times removed. My Ancestor. Crazy family I have.
Hello
As a Shropshire Lad your pronunciation of Shrewsbury is killing me.
Think small woodland creatures. 😂
V good history doc. 👍

Shakespeare had Prince Henry killing Hotspur. Wrong, but who cares ? The play is great.
I quite agree, love the play. However, for me I think the reality is a better story, what with the arrow in the face and all that, but that’s just my opinion 😉👍
