John, with regard to the alternator chain tensioner, when you release the spring pawl and push the ratchet shaft up, you will expose a small hole running through the shaft. Put a wire /paper clip through this like a grenade ring pull, this will keep the assembly in tension until reassembly. When the tensioner is bolted up with the alt. chain in place etc. you then pull the wire out, allowing the tensioner to spring up against the chain.

I was thinking about the oil lubrication hole in the shaft... I suppose there is also a connecting long axial hole? If so, you can check that the oil channel is clean from gunk by blowing some compressed air through it. Meaybe you already has checked it out? It's easy to forget.

I broke the alternator chain on my 1987 Honda Hurricane 100 cc cbr and cannot find another 72 link chain anywhere.Please help me with any information that will direct me in the right direction to find one.Thank you .

Hi star. Yes you will need to get a new chain and may be tensioner. For your model.
Bet them shell bearings are a fortune from the dealer 😏

One way to do the main shells is to use a Dial bore gauge to check clearances
U could use cheap Chinese brg shellsand c how they work out dirt cheap compared to own
