In the early 90s I worked for a man who’d been born in Italy but was in the US for 30+ years. Guy was in his late 50s but worked his whole life and owned a freight forwarding business in JFK airport where I worked while going to college. He also owned 6-7 gas stations. He was a really nice man, drove a used Caddy DeVille, wore cheap suits and would bring his lunch into work that his wife made him. I dropped him home once and he and his wife lived in a nice but modest home in valley stream Long Island. Anyway, he ends up getting cancer and signs the entire business over to his cocaine addicted son who I heard blew through all the money and businesses in less than 10 years. Broke my heart when I heard that. Man worked his entire life building a business and being frugal only for his son to piss it away and be left with nothing. Sad.
