JAja True
lol
LITERALLY-
It may seem that way but you can see him stroking back and forth on the lineart
But this IS rough. It looks nice and isn't stained or anything, but the lines are... well, exactly that; rough. I'm an artist myself, though not an animator, and people are often surprised by how "clean" my rough sketches look too.
This guy is so underated its a shame. He definetly needs more attention.
IKR!
Omg yes! Someone needs to get this guy to a million subs at LEAST!

The flipping paper is music to my ears.

Disney should bring 2D animation back to the movie theaters.
Yeah but I love the 2D traditional animation! (I love the 3D animation too) But the traditional animation just makes me smile 💜
@Beansprout Maybe he meant that its a good idea for Disney to show old scool 2d movies in a big screen (once Covid is over ofc). Ive never seen Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and so on on a big screen... I would totally pay. And probably ruin the time for other viewers because I would sing all the songs, haha))
@@msFiBi My brother, dad and I watched an old star wars movie in theaters a month back!
I love the old movies especially the little mermaid 🧜♀️🐠🦀 The lion king 👑 Hercules 🌌🏋️♂️ Pocahontas🦝 (I couldn’t find a lot of emojis but a few r there)
@Beansprout I don't even know where to start with this. I'm reading some implications in here that are honestly pretty funny, but I don't know if you intended them. I will say that the OP did not say anything about traditional 2D animation, they just said 2D animation. 3D animation is not cheap, btw, it's convenient and popular, that's why it dominates the field. I seriously doubt the total man hours required to create something like Wall*E are substantially reduced from traditional animation either, due to the level of detail involved.
Me with my 2D animation introduction course knowledge: Oh look the tail makes a wave action.

The Animation world is shifting to CGI , Today's obsession with computer generated details can not be replicated with the beauty of the lines drawn and painted by human hands, We Should Make Hand Drawn Animation HAPPEN! again.
I think a new movie called Wolfwalkers is hand drawn on paper. I may be wrong, but it's still gorgeous.
Idk I like both digital animation and traditional. Both are unique in their own way lol. Both have their own charms that the other can’t replicate and it also depends on the animator. I think we should just appreciate animation for what it is.
Ha! Come to the animation community, we got lots of 2D animation and we call dem memes. Some rare people sometimes take it too far and make a story out of it(no repeats) and still call it a meme. Lol
What about independent films? Hand drawn animation never left.
It's still happening, but Disney, one of the worlds most influencial animation companies has stopped, and that means very few 2d films make it to fame, and it seems like there arent any, a lot of other countried have great 2d animation industries though!

Pogo is adorable holy crap! Also it’s so impressive you did all of that in only 2 hours!
I mean, its just a few seconds, but it is amazing indeed
Very refined workflow
@@dantefox6556 Remember this is an actual animation too, I am sure you didn't mean it, but you make it seem like just because it's handrawn it's less worthy of being called an animation
@@joelchrono Oh, I'm so sorry I did not mean to come off that way. What I was trying to say is a completed animation story. A hand drawn animation is still an animation. The hand drawn animation is an amazing form of animating. The artist in the video did an amazing job in the video and I don't want to take away from that. It's amazing to me that people use to animate by hand, the fact he was able to do it in two hours is far better than I ever could.
@@joelchrono you might be surprised by how long it can take for just a few seconds man,,
"It took 1 hour and a half to make this animation".
The first drawing would take me 1 hour and a half lol
that's what happens when you have decades of experience
He really said 'rough drawings'. Each page is a masterpiece that I could never draw.
You should probably hit up your life drawing exercises doing one minute, five minute, and ten minute drawings. That will probably force you to get looser and faster with drawing over time.
It would take me 500 hours
It’d take me 3- I suck at animals- when I was younger I could but now I’m like humans and bad anatomyyYyyyy

Very true
my dad was an animator. he works traditionally, he would let me watch the animation by flipping the papers and i really love it!
One of the things I love about Aaron’s animations is how full of life and personality they feel!!
Its breathtaking to watch movement incrementally come to life through drawings before my very eyes. Such an amazing art form
What’s more amazing to me is that everybody can do this!😁
This would take me 5 days to animate and this guy did it in just 2 hours.
This is what I am wishing to achieve and oh goodness THIS GUY GIVES ME SUCH INSPIRATION.
And he's so kind, which only motivates me more.
Finally! I find normal man! Under another video everybody says "OMG he animate super i never will be like him"
@@tanimations7231 Haha! I'm glad to be seen as the normal person in the comments.
I notice that many people simply say they never will be like someone and that they want to be as good as them but never say 'I will work hard to be as good as them.'
And honestly, I love working hard to animate. It's so calming too!
There's a trick to drawing fast that may help you out. but it requires 3 things
1: Understand gesture and anatomy.
2: Understand 3 dimensional shapes
3: Time/ Draw a LOT.
1: Gesture and anatomy. If your drawings have a ton of detail, cut that out, and just animate the "big picture" of the drawing. the overall form and gesture. Details are for second passess and cleanup. Aaron draws things simply, he's allowed more detail because of number 3.
2: Every figure is comprised of 3 dimensional shapes. Cubes, triangles, squares, Rhombuses etc. Start breaking down figures into their most fundamental shapes. The more you do it, the more you begin to see different things as the shapes they are. I jokingly call it the "eye."
3: Draw a LOT. Time. It will take years to get this good. Repetition is the key to improving in drawing and animation. Make sure you absorb as many masters as you can, when you get too comfortable drawing one way, spice it up. Over time this building and breakdown of art will give you the power to draw complicated forms from thin air. When you get time under your belt, you'll notice you can quickly slip small details into your loose-pass drawings.
The better you get at constructing drawings the better you will be at animating. When you separate important information from minor details and take your time, you will come out on top.
Happy drawing!
@@Ruldolphmaker Thank you so so much! I appreciate this reply a LOT! This is such helpful information and I really hope it can help me to improve my art and animation, and I hope other aspiring artists see this.
Again, THANK YOU!!
Its real that disney animators use almost only Hawaiians tshirts, and I dont mind it at all! So much style and u feel really relaxed too!

I wish that Disney would try more 2D animations. Its a lot of work, but it just looks absolutely stunning. 3D animation is intresting but doen't give that same effect. Also, I feel like the "live action" remakes and sequels are just not intresting. I wish they would try something more creative than remaking a film in a different way.
I love letting him play in the background as I work on my animation homework. :)
Wow that’s incredible his ability to keep proportion the same and not only the shape and execution of the next move is truly a gift

@@oceanetir8824 Hello There
I was-I was just-wow!-blown away by this!
I’ve been interested in animation for a few years as a young artist, but I was always intimidated by the impression that animation was a monotonous process. I figured that it consisted of drawing frames for the smallest of movement, causing it to take hours or *days* to complete the animation for a minute scene. You just proved me wrong! In only eight pages you had captured such motion, and it was smooth! After having seen this video (and I hope I’ll get to see more), even if it goes no farther than being just a hobby, I don’t feel so intimidated by the idea of giving animation a shot. Thank you. ^^
I always thought the same too. But recently I started taking an animation class and have learned a lot. The more the drawings in the frames change the faster the movement seems, then the less drawings and smaller changes the slower it appears.
As a motion graphics animator I've been reading about traditional animation throughout my career, and sketching for fun, but I've never tried straight ahead animation with pencil for fun. Thank you for posting this, and for the thoughtful edits to make it more watchable. I love getting in the flow, be it digital or analog - but I think that it's easy to overlook the joy of craftsmanship which is represented so well by putting pencil to paper in this video, please post more.
Wooow the paper flipping sound really made me realize how much I miss hand drawing animation on paper
Glad I'm early for this
Pogo is very polite
Awww pogo is so adorable!!!! 🥺🥺🥺 I love your drawings!!!!!
look at the arc the head move does : It's the bouncing ball in action.
2 hours of animation but over 30 years of craft! Aaron you are amazing! I love you and your channel!
I have a 3 legged wolf character as well! Never thought about animating him tho.
Woah- amazing!
I’m a mixture of impressed that it only took him two hours and laughing to myself because that’s what’s considered short in terms of animating.
This is fantastic! I fell in love with Pogo the moment I saw him. It's amazing see him come to life even as you flipped though the pages on the animation board!
I miss a lot real 'animated drawing', real Disney. All the beauty in these were the beauty of the line that came to life.
Thanks, you made me feel like the little girl I was : fascinated

sometimes I get disappointed of learning 2d animation but when I see your videos , I find my hope again to learn that!
Thanks so much for sharing valuable contents free!!
This is wonderful to watch. I really like seeing the arcs and the overlap and follow through of this animation. I wondered how a tripedal dog would move, and it goes to show knowing both the anatomy and mechanics of your subject it really helps bring it to life. Thank you 🙏
This is the stuff that makes me remember how much I want to do this, how much I love animation.
This had me grinning ear to ear watching it come to life. Such an honour to watch a such a master craftsman at work
This so awesome to see paper animation. We used to do all animation assignments on paper before the quarantine (and couple months after). Thank you for this video.
By the way, I love drawing animals, I’ve made a lot of researching work to make my final student film with 2 four-legged characters (hedgehog and cat). And again. Thank you for inspiring and motivating
It's amazing how good this is, especially when it only took a few minutes per frame. I admire your skill immensely.
i so miss 2D disney animations and movies, its just so beautiful and fluid and very fairytale like. this is very amazing
That is probably the best video I've ever seen. I could watch this all day.
Thanks, Aaron. that was inspiring to see the old school paper technique. You are amazing.
He's so cute!! I'd love to animate by paper, always tried as a kid haha gotta bring that back!
Watching this makes me miss Disney's (and in general) hand drawn animation so much. Even if today's 2d animation can be really good, the fact that the lines you're seeing are done with a physical thing (pen/pencil) and not digitally makes the feeling of the drawings totally different.
i totally didn’t take out my digital art stuff to animate alongside him (tho I did a different animation ofc)
It's like watching life being created. Amazing
I love seeing tutorials in traditional animation!
As someone who wants to be a future animator, this is incredible and inspiring to watch. I can't explain to you how crazy this makes me to keep working harder.
What an artist! It's a shame that he's so underrated. In fact I would really like to see some pose to pose animation!
“I’m liking that”
You mean, *everyone is liking that*
(There are so many people like to do animation across the internet, and people say that Disney needs to hire them. They aren’t wrong, there are so many that have talent, but they like to keep it as a hobby, and not a job. This guy deserves and (most likely) enjoys to be a Disney animator for a career. His anatomy and expressions are perfect throughout the animations, and his enthusiasm makes it even better. I really enjoyed watching this. Thank you!)
I want to go into illustration for a living and the way that 2d animators can keep their shapes so consistent between frames honestly blows my mind. mad props for being so patient and attentive
Its a pitty that there's more 3d animation than 2d. I grew up getting taught 2d and I absolutely love it
I am amazed how he moves the paper so fast in a way where you can see the animation taking life

It blows my mind how talented you are. It's awesome that we can see the entire process, but by seeing the final animation feeling so natural I realize how much more attention to detail you were putting into it than I could realize by seeing you work.
