    Steam, the PC Gaming Launcher developed by Valve, is seen as the go-to store for your computer games. However, Epic Games, while having a lot of enticing features, is seen as a terrible platform. What are Epic Games’ shortcomings, and can Epic ever be better than Steam?

      Valve can be a greedy sack of a corporation if they want to be as well. Their two most popular games, Counter-Strike 2 and Team Fortress 2, have poor reputations for scammers and whatnot. However, Steam disregards the corruption happening on their systems and on their games, leading to a lot of fans feeling neglected. That’s why #fixtf2 is tending right now. That’s only one example, I’m sure there are plenty of others

    • @Bagubuns
      @Bagubuns  Месяц назад +6

      Even if you’re personally annoyed at it (I understand, don’t worry) it’s undeniably better for the game studios that make these games, and you’re gonna get a better experience playing it when it comes out of the timed exclusivity chamber. As explained by PirateSoftware, a fellow content creator, Blizzard ex-employee, and developer of the indie game Heartbound, timed exclusivity gives the studio time and money to make the game better before it hits other platforms. Think of it as early access. If the exclusive game is good on Epic, then it will be top condition when it hits Steam. If it sucks on Epic, then who cares? It’s much more productive than having corporations release broken buggy games everywhere on launch. All I’m saying is that it’s a valuable asset for Epic Games. You may even recall how later in the video I also briefly explained how exclusivity works against them.

    Sorry, but I just don't want to support Tim Sweeney and anything to keep the EGS alive, if I want free game I still don't want to poke their shitty platform for it
    And EGS lose money every second it exist, they are not even a competition since they doesn't even try to compete at all, if they do, their store wouldn't be that dogwater or making shady shit like Exclusivity deal

      Is exclusivity better for developers in every single case? What if the cash from Epic is not enough and no one buys your game after it releases on Steam? The only possible benefit, as you said, is developers releasing buggy games on the EGS to basically test it and fix it before the exclusivity contract runs out. I say possible because the game might not even need this (although that is quite rare these says). Otherwise exclusivity is anti-customer. PC is supposed to be a free market, not restricted like consoles are.

    • @Bagubuns
      @Bagubuns  Месяц назад +5

      No, exclusivity isn't the best option in every single case. That's why exclusivity is purely an offer. If a developer or studio is smart, they can negotiate whichever deals suits them best. Also, I don't necessarily agree with the anti-consumerist argument when it comes to PC timed exclusives since a lot of the limiting factors that consoles have are irrelevant. You don't need to buy an expensive piece of hardware to run EGS, you just need some space in your hard drive. If you don't want to do that, just wait because the consumer will eventually have the option to have it on the platform of their choice. Is it inconvenient? Sure, but hardly "anti-consumer." It's a short-term business decision, not a human rights violation.

      @@Bagubuns the slippery slope of "it's fine to be forced to use another launcher, it's fine for games to cost 20 bucks more, it's fine not to own games, these are just business decisions". Time isn't an unlimited resource either. I guess if a studio makes profit just from EGS and their contract they don't have to worry about the sales on Steam, but that hasn't always happened. Yeah I'm not changing my mind on this one. I don't need free games either, if I really wanted a game but was unable to buy it I could just pirate it.

      I used that to illustrate what happens when the service goes down since Steam wasn’t undergoing maintenance at that specific time. If Steam itself goes down for extended periods of time, or even forever (which is improbable but not impossible), then your games are as good as unplayable.

      You’d be surprised to hear that this is quite a common sentiment. No other launcher (that I know of) has a subreddit dedicated to hating them. In fact the subreddit in question swears off the use of Epic Games entirely, and all their “criticism” comes from outside news and sources. In reality, Epic is far from the worst compared to EA or Ubisoft’s services, but Epic’s worst features rank them (quality-wise) below the others.
