There's so many ways to avoid taking damage it's actually crazy. Stone Caps, evasion, status inflictions, AI manipulation, the usual defensive badge setup... the list goes on and on. Great job covering all of that in the video.
You pointed this out near the end, but that's why I like videos like this. You not only beat the challenge, but you showcased several quirks with Paper Mario's design philosophy. Your content serves as a major backbone in my fascination with game design. Make you seem like a keeper of the Paper Mario Lore, so to speak. Keep sharing the community's knowledge, man, and keep up the great work!
Same here. Just seeing how the game works internally, the flaws and quirks with each one, and the amount of work within the community - amongst other reasons - are one of the many reasons why I'm pursuing Game Development. Unfortunately, I have too much projects that I want to work on, with most of them making mods for other games.

I was screaming at the top of my lung: Chet Rippo makes this pretty much a normal run. Glad you lied to us and withheld that information till the very end.
It made things a LOT more interesting to see how long he could do it without using Chet Rippo, and the fact it took MASTER 3 to have him go that far, after beating Bowser no less, is insane.
Good showmanship, using a different strategy as often as possible, keeping broken abilities in your back pocket until it was absolutely necessary. Nice job keeping the feeling fresh all throughout.
I liked this, but imma be real, i wouldn't like it if this channel switched to _only_ or even _primarily_ this type of content. The let's plays and livestreams are what i came here for, with his fun interactions with the co-comms and funny challenge shenanigans. I'd like if this type of video happened once in a while tho, this video was really good
That was a great video! I really like this editing style! Also, showcasing diverse strategies while cracking jokes made this video much more interesting than the typical "can you beat x while y" which become very stale after a while, I feel. I wouldn't expect to see a lot of these in the near future because, as you said, it's a lot of work, but count me in next time one releases!
In all seriousness this video is incredible. High production value, longform Fatguy videos aren't something we get everyday but are a treat every time.
If you intend to show off more fun stuff and knowledge concerning the Paper Mario franchise (or even other games or franchise, like Celes-), go for it dude. Anytime a content creator makes a video about something they're really passionate about, you can feel that passion through the screen and the videos consequently become all the more enjoyable to watch. I definitely could feel all the work and passion you put through this video, and I wanna see more of that. Also the way you deepthroated that microphone, like gawd damn dude-
Can definitely see the amount of effort you put into this video, I’m all for these kinds of videos! And it’s always fun to learn some neat Paper Mario trivia along the way. I’m a casual enjoyer of the Paper Mario series, but love seeing games like these really test the boundaries of what is possible through the game’s parameters. Show us the cheese, exploits, and other fun challenges that members of the community could give a try.
The editing, writing, and like.. Everything in this video is so fantastic?? You really outdid yourself I love all of your videos but this one is such a gem
This is the perfect example of what "Can you beat X by doing Y" videos should be! In general, these kind of videos are just "Get through the prologue by using RNG until you can cheese your way out of the whole run". You deliberately avoid abusing RNG, overpowered items or strategies in order to show all the different ways to avoid damage in your run, and making it interesting from beginning to end. This is HIGH-QUALITY! Bravo
Love this style of video, I loved your PMTTYD minimum Star Points run, and I'm happy that you're coming out with more scripted long-form videos like this! Would be great to see more videos like this
This was a treat to watch. Great editing, great commentary. I loved your choice of background music. (Using Petey Piranha’s theme during the Lava Piranha battle was a stroke of genius XD)
OMG I loves this video sooooooooo much! The quips (and lies), music choices, entire idea, commentary, editing, and just everything in general made this a very enjoyable video to watch. It also felt really good when you showed off different strategies and I got to go "I knew that could work too!"
This is the first video I've seen from this channel and I learned so much about Paper Mario, so I guess you successfully did what you set out to do. I had a great time watching this too!
Incredible editing, incredible music choices throughout. 10/10 video. I WAS going to be all "hey what about chet rippo" in the comments but I decided to wait until I at least finished watching the video lol
25:33 yall we cannot let this slide Funny man, where did you get this picture? Any…special sights you’ve been looking at the past few days? Anything that your employer might be able to see if you didn’t delete your search history? Who’s the artist btw? Do you know the artist? Can you tell who made the art? Please and thank you?
This is such a cool video, it's nice to see a more heavily edited video from you once in a while and I can definitely see that you enjoyed making it. Again, such a great video!
This was a fun run to see. I've wondered how nobody's posted a minimum damage run yet. I've done it before, but don't have a good way of recording it. My experience was very different from yours, though. I modified the rules to remove as much randomness as I could. I also banned item shops, but used Chet Rippo. I may go back and see what the count is if I also ban him, but it will definitely be higher. If anyone's interested, the rest of the comment is how I beat the run. To elaborate on the removed randomness, I outright banned the luck badges. For similar reasons, I also banned Power Bounce and status unless it had a 100% chance of working. This basically meant only the Sleepy Sheep on the Magikoopa was allowed. Goomba King had to be a little lucky since he could either kick you for 1 damage or drop Goomnuts on you for 2 damage. 1 damage is required for the minimum. With that 1 and the Goomba Bros 3, Prologue ends with 19 damage. Chapter 1 was easy. I used many of the same strategies you did to get through. I did, however, require something different for Jr Troopa. There actually is a guaranteed way of beating him without taking damage or relying on luck to do so. By going back to Goomba Village after getting Kooper, but before beating the Koopa Bros, you can jump from the bricks to the stone block at Jr Troopa's playground. Kooper can hit the invisible block above it for a Repel Gel. Chapter 1 is beaten with no damage. Chapter 2 is where I thought of the shopless rule. Stone Caps are the boring answer, but what if I banned item shops entirely? The badge shop and Merlow are fine, but buying 100 Stone Caps or other items are not. Chapter 2 went by with few issues (and I did upgrade Bombette over Kooper, thank you very much), until I got to Tutankoopa. However I calculated it, I would take a minimum of 2 damage. I could stop the damage with a Repel Gel, but the next one wouldn't be available until Chapter 3 (spoilers, I'll need it). I could use the first one here instead of Jr Troopa, but only if I can take less than 2 damage against him. I can. I restarted the game and got back to before the Koopa Bros fight. I had to make preparations that required backtracking. By grinding Chuck Quizmo for Star Pieces, it's possible to get enough to buy Zap Tap. I also needed to fight one or two optional encounters for the last few experience to get to Level 3. The goal is 10 FP and 6 BP. Turn 1, Power Jump and Bomb for 7 damage. Jr Troopa then hits you for 1 and takes 1 from Zap Tap. Another Power Jump and Bomb for his last 7 means Chapter 1 is completed with 1 damage and the Repel Gel can be used in Chapter 2 for no damage. The total damage so far is 20. Chapter 3 posed another challenge in Jr Troopa, but there are just enough overworld items to win without taking damage. I collected the Thunder Bolt on Pleasant Path, the Shooting Star in Goomba Village, the Thunder Rage in Dry Dry Desert, and the Repel Gel in Gusty Gulch. I also grabbed Power Rush, Double Dip, and D-Down Jump from Tubba Blubba's Castle. I also saw Chet Rippo to reduce my max HP to 5 (which I don't consider taking damage). The turn order was using the Thunder items and Outta Sight, then Shooting Star and Repel Gel. Hit with D-Down Jump until the Repel Gel wears off, then Outta Sight to get one last D-Down Jump for exactly 40 damage. This does require 20 FP and there are only two FP Pluses, so at least two levels have to go into FP. The Heart was no issue. Power Rush and Outta Sight had me get through it without items. Chapter 3 is beaten with no damage. Chapter 4 was easy. Big Lantern Ghost only attacks every other turn, so just Outta Sight. General Guy used a similar strategy to you. I used seven charges against the Shy Squad. Stilts Guys are taken out with Quake Hammer and Outta Sight. Shy Stacks are taken out with Quake Hammer, Outta Sight, and Star Storm. At the tank, Mario hasn't jumped yet and can win in one hit. Chapter 3 is really where the challenge ends for a while. Chapter 5 is barely worth mentioning. I used Ice Power instead of Snowman Dolls. No damage. Huff N Puff, Crystal King, and Chapter 8 Jr Troopa can be beaten with the Charge strategy. I fought the Anti Guy Unit for fun. I don't know how the AI for Bowser works, so it was inconsistent, but possible to win damageless. That just leaves the 6 damage Twink takes for 26 damage total. I've been meaning to go back and beat the remaining optional bosses. I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
This is definitely not only a fun and informative video, but also a great display of inventive editing and usage of music. This style for the videos is something I wholeheartedly support and I can’t wait to see what Fatguy will do next. ☺️
RUclips be screwing me over on the notification game. This content is too amazing to miss, yet RUclips didn't tell me, even though I've subscribed, notified, and clicked the stream for explicit notification reminders! How can I go on with RUclips depriving me of such good content?
I, for one, enjoy a more produced, thought out and well done video - though i'll always enjoy the more casual "let's just play it" videos. Great work on this one, Fatguy! Had a *bob-ombast* time with it
Well edited, nicely narrated and overall very good presentation of the whole thing. Also with the explanation even a dumdum as myself could follow. But I think the power of the greenscreen damaged my retina a little.
I would like you to know, since it made me so happy, that when you pointed at the camera (for the first time), you were pointing at my cat, who was snugged up with me. And she looked at you with this confused look, as if to say ‘why are you pointing at me?’. Great video
Not only is this a great video about the challenge, but man the editing is so phenomenal, the cuts, the live action segments with you in front of the green screen, your humor and jokes has always been my favorite out of all the content creators I watch, so this video is a sweet treat for me. Seriously, this video is both informative and hilarious, fantastic!
Gosh what a phenomenal video! I've been watching your content for awhile now but I have really interacted that much, but for real I adore watching all your stuff and every new video brings joy to my day whenever it's posted or whenever I get to it! I adored the video format and goofy editing and humor you plugged into this one. It felt different, but so right
You made a joke about liking and subscribing, but I’ve been on and off watching your videos for years so I ended up just liking and subscribing here lol. Thanks for the cool edited video though! I really liked your work to make the fights far more interesting than just spamming the easier strategies for the most part.
Great video! Found it informative and entertaining. I think the calamity ganon joke was funny especially the second time. This challenge looked fun to me so I stared it a couple days after watching your video. Red and Blue goomba took me 88 resets, but it was on the switch so at least I could save a few seconds per reset with save state. Still only to chapter two, but I found something I thought was fun, you can get back to danger by using Chet repo. I’m at 5 hp forever now.
Having only played ttyd I was thinking the whole video "wow it's pretty weird there's no way to lower your max health to 5 in this game," and then the plot twist at the end came. Great video
Never realized this game had so many ways to literally be undefeatable, I really love Paper Mario 64 over the other Paper Mario and this video made me appreciate it more!
impressive challenge, and very clear explanation of everything involved. kudos for the knowledge AND skill involved! the constant awkward cutaway jokes got old very quickly, though. great vid, just a presentstion issue
Holy shit this was an idear that I never thought would be possible I love the jokes how you didnt just spam stone cap and even build a strat around it every time its an higlight to see sutch videos pls do more of them
brand new to the channel, and I don't think I could have watched a better video to start. this was so fun, quirky, homey, and educational. I'm one of those people who love long deep dive videos, be they lore, challenge, essay, whatever. if someone is passionate enough about a subject to make a long video explaining it, I'm ALL over it. and that's part of what I love in this so much, you didn't just do the challenge, you showed several options to do it just to flex on how easy it actually is. and hearing at the end that you have even more delicious cheese for this series is a delight, I can't wait to learn how else you can mercilessly break these games!
@@Moon-Vixen If you look for "Book of Mario: Thousands of Doors" or "Fatguy703 the book of Mario 64" on the standard search bar on youtube you'll probably find the list of live streams. You could also watch the list of high lights but i think the live streams are better. I'd recommend to watch Thousands of doors first because while it's good I think 64 is better for a big part because there he translated the entire game while thousands of doors it was only the parts of the game he figured mattered for translation when he made it.
Been following you since you had like 2k subs or so, and man, your usual live/vod content is amazing and your jokes and way of comment your streams are perfect for long runs like the streamed ones... yet this video was my fav by far. I don't know, but your humor works well as heck in scripted videos as well. I was entertained since the first until the last second, like I usually am with jrose11. Keep these kind of video coming, man - I know they need effort, but it's worth it. ❤
This reminded me that I did a (off camera, played it for myself) playthrough of Paper Mario Dark Star edition which allows you to do a full 1hp playthrough since chapter 1 and I can say that aside from Bowser and Jr. Troopa scripted battles It is possible to beat the game without taking damage (considering all the bosses there are much MUCH harder). I followed a single advice given to me by ShadeBlade creator of Dark Star Edition: "Items are your friends". That gave me the idea of making an RPG where you can't get hit or you die, so you have to rely on your items and always be on your toes (as well as managing your dodges well). Thanks to the Decomp being complete and Merlon being out, I might begin a lil development of that once I get decent at C++.
That was a super fun video! I loved the humor and the pacing of it, and as a more casual paper mario player, i wasn't sure if you could remove 5 HP like in the sequel, so that last bit was hilarious. Also, good music selection 👌
Blew my mind. Btw the "hard" bosses were hard because I was bad at the game when I was 9. I just ignored logic and did what I thought seemed right, so I made everything difficult on myself. Great video, made me laugh a lot. I love the hell out of this game, I've spent a lot of time playing it, but I learned a lot of stuff I had no clue about from this video and the tier list videos. I'm gonna beat the hell out of everyone next playthrough.
Eli(think that's your name?) This video format was by far one of your funniest yet. I know it'd be difficult but it would be awesome if more of your play-by-play videos were like this cuz with your editing prowess this is just awkward enough to be histerical and entertaining/educational at thr dame time 😂😂👍

There's so many ways to avoid taking damage it's actually crazy. Stone Caps, evasion, status inflictions, AI manipulation, the usual defensive badge setup... the list goes on and on. Great job covering all of that in the video.
Stone caps are especially egregious due to 64 partner mechanics

@MrRiverFacecould have been a wayward footage from a different run

Funny man, where did you get this picture? Any…special sights you’ve been looking at the past few days? Anything that your employer might be able to see if you didn’t delete your search history? Who’s the artist btw? Do you know the artist? Can you tell who made the art? Please and thank you?
My man is down bad...
But, uhhhh, if you find who made it...
Sharing is caring.
Entertaining, powerful, hilarious, ambitious, compelling, courageous. I’m crying. Also your accent is just the cherry on top ❤
Love this video format, very entertaining and captivating. Hope to see more of this kind of content!
This is definitely not only a fun and informative video, but also a great display of inventive editing and usage of music. This style for the videos is something I wholeheartedly support and I can’t wait to see what Fatguy will do next. ☺️
I like all the Paper Mario stuff on the wall! I'd love to have something like that, wish it was easier to find merch for the series.
This is an amazingly good video, I loved how you dissected all the strategies and played everything out in the most exciting way possible.

I've both played this game and watched so many of your videos. And yet I never knew that the first General Guy phase could run away like that.
I thought they could only run if there was one Shy Guy left.
RUclips be screwing me over on the notification game. This content is too amazing to miss, yet RUclips didn't tell me, even though I've subscribed, notified, and clicked the stream for explicit notification reminders! How can I go on with RUclips depriving me of such good content?
Great video! You did an amazing job with the formatting and writing and I personally would love to see more videos likes this
I, for one, enjoy a more produced, thought out and well done video - though i'll always enjoy the more casual "let's just play it" videos.
Great work on this one, Fatguy! Had a *bob-ombast* time with it
Well edited, nicely narrated and overall very good presentation of the whole thing. Also with the explanation even a dumdum as myself could follow. But I think the power of the greenscreen damaged my retina a little.
'broader audience' you're goddamn right
i appreciate long videos. what i love is when people like you spread it out with "humor checkpoints"
top tier entertainment
I love this style of content, i do hope to see more of it in the future. Also chapter 6 is edited like a ytp and i love it.
I would like you to know, since it made me so happy, that when you pointed at the camera (for the first time), you were pointing at my cat, who was snugged up with me. And she looked at you with this confused look, as if to say ‘why are you pointing at me?’. Great video
I SAW YOU CALLING ME A BITCH IN THE BOTTOM LEFT CORNER BRO 2:56 LOOOOOOL
This is such an amazing video. I was already a huge fan, as you might remember, but more of this would be AMAZING
It felt different, but so right
26:20 That's some really nice editing. Makes the repetitive battles that much more entertaining.🤣
I swear Jon (I just assume thats your name you look like a Jon) this vid is AMAZINGLY edited. this made my sat night ❤
Forgot you did mention that later in the video, guess I gotta watch it again to see what else I missed
My man didn't even use 30 frame perfect inputs to skip the first Jr. Trooper battle? Weak
Damn!
Those were clever strats to get around all the hurdles.
Great work man and I'd love to see another video like this in the future.
I would love more videos like this! It's always a pleasure to increase my Paper Mario knowledge :D
Yo honestly your humor and editing are top notch my guy, please keep up the incredible work or whatever idk
Comment for algorithmic. Love the video and glad to see you are experimenting with some other styles of content that make you happier to make!
Having only played ttyd I was thinking the whole video "wow it's pretty weird there's no way to lower your max health to 5 in this game," and then the plot twist at the end came. Great video
18:52 oh hey, it's the "you win" part of the song! That's a really neat detail.
This is one of the best Paper Mario videos I've ever seen. Really well done and also enjoyed the classic Fatguy style. Very fun!
4:50 perfect cutaway, always loved that shot
Oh wow the production value is good on this one. I’ve watched you a long time this is great to see
Good on you making a showcase covering a buncha things rather than just sticking to one way that definitely works
Never realized this game had so many ways to literally be undefeatable, I really love Paper Mario 64 over the other Paper Mario and this video made me appreciate it more!
I was wondering the whole time why you didn't do what you mentioned at around 42:00.
Great video my guy!
such amazing quality. better than channels with hundreds of thousands of subs. Keep going I know the algorithm is going to love this
Your tier lists were high quality but this is on another level. Turning on notifications for the next one B)
impressive challenge, and very clear explanation of everything involved. kudos for the knowledge AND skill involved!
the constant awkward cutaway jokes got old very quickly, though. great vid, just a presentstion issue
Holy shit this was an idear that I never thought would be possible I love the jokes how you didnt just spam stone cap and even build a strat around it every time its an higlight to see sutch videos pls do more of them
3min in and already one of the most entertaining no damage challenges I've seen, they tend to be high effort low value but this is just
Good
This one made me sub. I also shared to my brother as it’s an all time favorite.
The chapter 6 edit was amazing haha
Honestly a super impressive run, i didnt expect how well everything would go!
Would love to see more stuff similar like this in the future
You may not always post scripted content, but when you do it's ALWAYS a banger
The editing on this video is so freakin good, omg.
I am in love with the editing and the humor is amazing!!!!
brand new to the channel, and I don't think I could have watched a better video to start. this was so fun, quirky, homey, and educational.
Check out his book of mario videos
Seriously
Do it
@@W.2026 I cannot for the life of me find what you're talking about. can you give me more info to search for or link them directly? I'm very curious👀
Been a while since i've watched your stuff, glad to see that you're still doing PM content and that you're doing well!
This video was Amazing I love watching paper mario content and seeing that this was indeed possible i was watching the entire time. Loved it man
Been following you since you had like 2k subs or so, and man, your usual live/vod content is amazing and your jokes and way of comment your streams are perfect for long runs like the streamed ones... yet this video was my fav by far. I don't know, but your humor works well as heck in scripted videos as well. I was entertained since the first until the last second, like I usually am with jrose11. Keep these kind of video coming, man - I know they need effort, but it's worth it. ❤
When I saw Danger Mario show up, I popped tf off. Fantastic video!
Absolutely incredible video. I was particularly impressed by the editing on Kent C, haha
25:36 I think she'd be cuter if she was purple and had a hat
That was a super fun video! I loved the humor and the pacing of it, and as a more casual paper mario player, i wasn't sure if you could remove 5 HP like in the sequel, so that last bit was hilarious. Also, good music selection 👌
This was interesting and well-done and I appreciate all the work you put into making the video!
The quality of this video is fantastic. Great work. Just know the effort is appreciated. Still love your other content, though.
I would love more videos like this Fatguy, this was very entertaining to watch
I loved all the edits in this, especially vs Kent C.
Wow this video rules! Great presentation and script, look forward to more!
This was great, I'd love to see more like this! Great work!
I love how this video is edited, very entertaining
Love how the video just turns into a YTP for the Lakilester and Puff puff machine fights
Eli(think that's your name?) This video format was by far one of your funniest yet. I know it'd be difficult but it would be awesome if more of your play-by-play videos were like this cuz with your editing prowess this is just awkward enough to be histerical and entertaining/educational at thr dame time 😂😂👍
God Bug Fables sound track frame 0 you already know the video is going to be incredible :^)
